CBD and your Pain Management Regimen

There are many different ways that people have come up with managing discomfort. Some are over the counter medications; others are more holistic. More holistic approaches have become more popular in the current time. This is a positive approach as there can be negative repercussions to some discomfort regimens.

Now, you must be thinking, what does this have to do with CBD (or, as it is also known as, cannabidiol)? There have been people who have described adding CBD into their discomfort management regimens and the positive effects it may have. So, what can CBD do for your discomfort? Read on to find out.

First: What is CBD?

To understand how CBD can potentially assist you day-to-day we must first understand what it is and what it is not.

CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis sativa plant comes in various types. Hemp is one of them. As of 2018, the hemp plant is legal to grow and sell throughout the United States. This was deemed federally legal by the Farm Bill. This is because the hemp plant has high amounts of CBD while it has low amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

THC is the component of the Cannabis sativa plant that gives users a ‘high’ feeling or a type of inebriation. This component is not legal in all states. However, it is legal in a few for medicinal and recreational uses. CBD does not have the inebriating effect like THC. Hemp contains less than 0.3% of THC and is not enough to get users ‘high’. Marijuana is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant that contains high amounts of THC. These two cannabinoids are often found together but can be separated from one another. CBD has been described to give holistic health benefits.

So, what can CBD do to assist discomfort?

Pain + CBD

Does CBD have discomfort relief properties? It is quite possible. There is still much research to be done around and about CBD, but here are a few that we have found. First, we here at Panacea Life Sciences conducted our own research on the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD. We had pet owners (specifically canines) give their furry friends CBD who had age-related movement issues. After giving “a man’s best friend” CBD pet owners expressed that their animals had increased mobility. This means that the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD must have worked as the dogs felt more comfortable to move about. You can read more about what we found here.

In this study CBD spray and a placebo were evaluated in 300 patients suffering from peripheral neuropathy.  Those who were given a placebo did not get the same results of those who were given the CBD spray. They concluded that those who were given the CBD had improved sleep quality, improvements in discomfort and the severity of their conditions were lowered.

Other uses of CBD

Now that you know that managing discomfort may be a good use of CBD, perhaps you are wondering what other uses of CBD there are. Here are a few:

  • Skin health: Although CBD topical usually never reaches the bloodstream it does not mean that they cannot assist in skin health. In this study it explains that those with and without skin conditions had improved skin health after the use of CBD topicals. They used several tests and used photographic evidence.
  • Promote a sense of calm: CBD has been described as promoting a sense of calm in those who have feelings of anxiousness. This is why people have often used CBD right before bed to calm any nerves they may have or in the morning to start their day with a nice state of mind.
  • FDA approved medication: There are several FDA approved medications that contain CBD. Epidiolex is the most well-known. This medication helps those with two severe types of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. There are a handful of others that assist those going through anti-cancer treatments with the nausea it may cause. These are called Marinol(dronabinol, Syndros (dronabinol), and Cesamet(nabilone).

CBD products

What CBD products are available now? It is important to note that there are several types of CBD products available, but they are not all created equal. It is important to read labels and research how retailers are obtaining and creating these products. Here is a list of some that Panacea Life Sciences has available:

  • Soft capsules: Soft capsules or soft gels are CBD are dissolvable capsules full of CBD. These are swallowed and then go through the digestive system to reach the stomach. This is where it is broken down and the CBD is absorbed through the stomach lining and into the bloodstream.
  • Tablets: These tablets are placed in the mouth and where it dissolves and enters the bloodstream through the cheek surface or the thin skin under the tongue.
  • Edibles: Edibles come in various forms and are similar to soft capsules. But instead of swallowing the product you chew the yummy gummy. From the stomach, like the soft capsules, it is absorbed into the bloodstream by the stomach lining.
  • Topicals: CBD topicals are used to promote skin health. Topicals come in salves, lotions and even creams. The CBD added into these topicals usually never reach the bloodstream. However, they have been described to give benefits from the pores of the skin. These work best when used liberally and often. CBD hand sanitizer and CBD hand cleansing creme is also available.
  • Tinctures & oils: These types of CBD are very similar to tablets in the way they reach the bloodstream. They are added to a carrier oil and are used sublingually. This is one of the fastest ways to get CBD into the bloodstream.
