The amount of creams and lotions that claim to “stop the aging process” or “make you look ten years younger” without any proof is ridiculous, if you ask us. These face and body topicals are often made with a long list of ingredients and chemicals that do not actually help your skin. We here at Panacea Life Sciences would never make such claims without scientific back-up. CBD (cannabidiol) creams could be lumped in with the other moisturizers, but we are here to tell you why they shouldn’t be! What is CBD cream? Does it work? Really? These questions will be answered along with many more. Continue to read how a change in your skin care routine could be beneficial.
CBD: what is it?
It is important to start with the bare minimum information, so, what is CBD? CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids compounds found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis sativa plant can be found in a variety of types. Two important types are the hemp plant and the marijuana plant. These two plants are part of the same family but are slightly different.
The hemp plant is federally legal as of 2018 with the Farm Bill (with exceptions in some states). This bill allows farmers across the country to grow and sell the hemp plant. This is because it has a low percentage of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is another cannabinoid found in the Cannabis sativa plant. THC is the compound that people are most familiar with as it gives those who use it a ‘high’ or euphoric feeling. The hemp plant has at or less than 0.3% of THC and that is why it is federally legal.
Marijuana, however, has not been legalized throughout the country. The variation is legal in a handful of states for recreational as well as medicinal purposes. This is important to keep in mind as you move forward with your CBD journey. Panacea Life Sciences uses the hemp plant for all of our products here in Golden, Colorado.
CBD cream: why use it?
There is so much information out there regarding skin health. What is the deal with CBD cream? Are there potential benefits that you should hop on ASAP? CBD cream is just one of many different topical products. There are lotions, ointments, salves, foams, gels, and more that are available. CBD topicals differ from their counterparts as they typically do not reach the bloodstream. CBD cannot penetrate the skin and reach the bloodstream, but the CBD can be absorbed in the pores and benefits may come from there. Like most topicals, CBD topicals are best used liberally and often to see the potential benefits they may have. You must be thinking, so, where is the proof that we’ve been talking about?
Here it is: in this study they used people with severe skin conditions. They had them apply a CBD topical to their affected areas twice daily for three months. They conducted three different tests to ensure that their results were applicable: a hydration test, an elasticity test, and a TEWL (transdermal water loss). They also had the subjects take a questionnaire. At the end of the study they concluded that THC–free CBD significantly improved the skin conditions of the people. There were no allergic reactions with the topical application. To support the studies’ conclusion, they used photographic evidence. With this study we can see how CBD topicals improved the skin health of those with skin conditions, imagine the benefits those who do not have skin conditions could see! Everyone wants to keep their skin looking vibrant and healthy. Maybe CBD topicals are for you. Or maybe you will choose CBD for a totally different reason.
What CBD topicals do we have? We’re glad you asked. Here is a list of the topical products that we offer our customers.
Soothe CBD Salve: Ingredients found in this topical are: Shea butter, Coconut oil, Jojoba oil, Argan oil, CBD Hemp oil, Calendula, Arnica. Essential Oils: Lavender, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Camphor. This product is formulated to possibly help relieve a variety of discomfort. This is best used in a specific area to provide the most benefits.
CBD Hand Sanitizer: Yes, you read that right. There is hand sanitizer that has CBD in it, but why? CBD has been described to have antibacterial properties. Therefore, the CBD hand sanitizer was born. Instead of using a hand sanitizer with unknown chemicals, you can gear toward a more holistic way of cleaning.
Cleansing CBD Hand Creme: This is similar to the CBD hand sanitizer but, with an added creme aspect. Moisturize and clean at the same time without CBD hand cleansing creme. This leaves the hands sanitized and soft.
Transform Natural CBD Face Cream: If you prefer to get the full spectrum of the hemp plants cannabinoids. This product may be for you. This product is similar to the THC free face cream in what it may do for you and your skin health, but this has the full profile that you may be interested in.
Transform THC-Free CBD Face Cream: This is the first type of CBD face cream that you will see. This is specially formulated for your face to potentially help with anti-aging, soothing, age spot correcting, sun damage correcting, and overall skin health. This would be best used twice daily for full benefits.
Other: CBD products
There are many other products that are made with CBD. Here are some of the more popular products.
Tablets: This type of CBD is very easy to use. You just place it in your mouth, let it dissolve and you are done! After being dissolved the CBD reaches the bloodstream through the mouth. This is a very quick way to get CBD into your bloodstream. Our CBD tablets come in 25 mg and 50 mg. We also provide equine tablets as well.
Tinctures: The way that a tincture gets into the bloodstream is similar to the way a tablet does. But, instead of a dissolvable tablet a tincture is an oil like substance. With the dropper, place the wanted amount of CBD into the mouth and let it sit there until dissolved. This also gets in the bloodstream quickly.
Vapes: Panacea Life Sciences does not sell CBD vapes nor do we advocate for the use of them. With that being said it is important to understand them. After the CBD is inhaled it is absorbed through the lungs and then on into the bloodstream. This works quickly but can have negative effects for the lungs.
Softgels: Softgel CBD is a great way to get CBD into your routine. Our soft capsules are taken like any type of pill. Swallow and go! The capsule is full of CBD. Once it reaches the stomach through the digestive tract it breaks down and is absorbed into the bloodstream from the stomach. These take a bit longer to feel but, some have described to last a bit longer.
Edibles: Edibles and softgels are similar but a bit different. So, instead of swallowing a capsule, edibles come in a variety of different yummy forms. We sell cherry flavored gummies. Like softgels, after swallowing the edible breaks down in the stomach and the CBD is absorbed from there.
These are just the more popular ways to get CBD into your system. There are always more products emerging. Now that you know what products are out there and are experts in CBD topicals, why else do folks use CBD?
Other reasons to use CBD
One of the more important things to know about CBD is how versatile it is! This article is about CBD topicals and how they may help your skin health. What other reasons is CBD being used?
Promote a sense of calm: Promoting a sense of calm in those who have feelings of anxiousness may be quite helpful to some. In this study, they used brain imaging to test subjects who have SAD (social anxiety disorder). Those who were given the CBD showed a decrease in their social anxiety disorder via brain scans. Those who did not receive the CBD did not have any decrease.
Anti-inflammatory properties: CBD has been researched for the possibility of joint health benefits. Panacea Life Sciences has done our own research regarding this aspect. We looked at dogs who are older and have joint health issues. During this study, we asked pet owners to administer CBD to their dogs two times a day for four consecutive weeks. The owners were to take a weekly test to show if anything had improved. At the end of the four weeks pet owners described their dogs to be more mobile. Therefore, the CBD may have helped with their joint health!
FDA approved medications: There are several FDA approved medications that contain CBD. Epidiolex is the most well-known. This medication helps those with two severe types of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. There are also a handful of others that assist those going through anti-cancer treatments and the nausea it may cause. These are called Marinol (dronabinol), Syndros (dronabinol), and Cesamet (nabilone). These medications can only be prescribed by a healthcare professional.
These are just some of the reason’s folks choose to use CBD. This all-natural substance is just emerging in the health and wellness field and we think it will only continue in popularity. To learn more about CBD cream and CBD in general, go to panacealife.com.
