Melatonin and CBD (Cannabidiol) for a Good Night’s Sleep

A restless night can mess up your whole day. It’s not surprising that many people are always on the lookout to have a more restful sleep. But not everyone wants to take sleep medications. Many people are looking for more holistic forms of sleep aids. Are there options for people who fall under this category? Recent research would suggest that cannabidiol (CBD) may be a great option to get a better night’s sleep.

What are CBD and melatonin?

Definitions are always a good thing to have when talking about things like this. So, let’s start with CBD.

CBD is a compound that’s found in cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana. It is a member of a specific class of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. There are over 113 different types of cannabinoids found in cannabis plants, CBD being just one of them. There is another cannabinoid that is more famous than CBD and is often conflated with it. That cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

It’s essential to know the difference between THC and CBD. THC produces what is known as a psychoactive effect. That means that it makes the inebriation, more recently thought of as a high associated with marijuana use. Many people believe that CBD and THC are both cannabinoids and are both found in cannabis, which means that CBD is also psychoactive. However, that is not the case. CBD is not psychoactive. It does not create any sort of high when used.

Most CBD products are made by extracting the cannabinoid from hemp, rather than marijuana. There are a few reasons for this. One of the main ones is the hemp has low levels of THC (less than 0.3%) and high levels of CBD, while marijuana has high levels of THC and varying degrees of CBD. However, it is also because hemp is federally legal, while marijuana is still federally illegal. 2018 the Farm Bill officially legalized farmers to grow and sell hemp (however, there are some restrictions in individual states). Marijuana has been legalized by a handful of states, whether for medical or recreational use.

Now that we have talked about what CBD is, let’s cover the other half of this: melatonin.

The definition of melatonin is relatively simple. It is a hormone in the body that helps regulate sleep. It is connected with your internal clock and is made to be released at specific times (generally when you usually go to sleep). However, it is not uncommon for the production and release of melatonin to become disrupted. As a result, scientists have developed ways to make melatonin in labs, and incorporated into supplements. Melatonin products are usually taken to help people fall asleep and often preferred by many people because they are less likely to become habit forming, unlike other sleep aids.

All of this does raise the question, what sort of benefit could come from CBD and melatonin being mixed?

What can melatonin and CBD do for sleep?

There have been many studies looking at some different effects that CBD may have on its users. In particular, there is one that could make a difference for those looking for a good night’s sleep. That would be its effect on one’s mental state.

By that, we mean its ability to help people achieve a greater sense of calm. For example, this study had test subjects with Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) participate in public speaking. Some of the subjects were given CBD, while others were given a placebo. The researchers concluded that those who were given CBD were able to handle the task much more confidently than those given the placebo. This study suggests that CBD may help calm those who have SAD that affect their sleep.

Another, more telling study looked at CBD’s effects on a little girl with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and insomnia resulting from the disorder. The researchers gave the test subject a trial run of CBD before she went to bed. The test subject reported a steady increase in the quality of her sleep.

These studies, among many others, suggest that CBD has some beneficial calming effects. This, on its own, may be able to help many people fall asleep. However, it may not be enough for everyone. Because there have been many studies on melatonin’s effect on sleep, we already know that it could aid in that. The mix of CBD and melatonin may be able to provide that little boost that you may need to fall asleep.

What other CBD products are there?

Of course, melatonin is not for everyone. Some people would prefer to have the CBD without the addition. As mentioned in the studies above, that could work well, too, as CBD could have enough of a calming effect that CBD on its own may be able to help you fall asleep. So, if you are looking for a non-melatonin CBD product, here are the different forms you may find them in.

Tinctures & oils

Oils and tinctures are one of the most common kinds of CBD products. They are CBD extract that has been mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut oil. A lot of their popularity stems from their versatility. You have a few different options when it comes to taking tinctures and oils. You can mix them in with food or drink. This way does take a little bit longer, like the food or drink that you mix it in does need to digest before it can start working. Another way to take this particular kind of CBD product is by placing a few drops directly into your mouth. This is a much faster way because the skin under your tongue is thin and allows things (like a CBD oil, for example) to absorb and enter the bloodstream easily.

Tablets & capsules

If you are looking for something a bit more pill-like, then these are what you should be looking out for. CBD capsules are usually soft gels. That means that they are made with liquid CBD extract. The benefit of this is that they digest faster and start working quicker as a result. CBD tablets are commonly sublingual. These are pills that you place under your tongue and allow to dissolve. Much like with oils and tinctures, the benefit in this is based on the fact that the CBD can absorb through the skin under your tongue easily, entering the system quickly.

Edibles

CBD edibles are arguably the most popular CBD product available. This is likely because of what they are. If you did not guess from the name, CBD edibles are any food or drink that has been made with CBD extract. So, it is not hard to see why people like them a lot. They are easy to take and taste great. However, the one downside of edibles is that the food needs to digest before the CBD can enter the system and start working. But they also have the longest-lasting effects, so there is a bit of a trade-off.

Topicals

CBD topicals are a pretty broad category of products. It boils down to anything that you use on your skin that has been made with CBD. This could include lotions, salves, balms, and hand sanitizers, and those are just a few examples of the options you have within this category. These are going to provide you with a more localized effect than other CBD products. This is because the CBD in topicals never enters the bloodstream. Instead, the CBD absorbs through the pores and does its work there. The effect of CBD topicals does not move much beyond where it is initially used.

FDA approved medications

While we are still trying to understand all CBD effects, some CBD-based medications have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). One of the main ones is Epidiolex, a medication that is aimed at helping people with epilepsy keep their number of seizures down. Another is called Sativex and is made to help ease the pain-related spasticity caused by MS. Most of the other CBD based medications are aimed at helping ease nausea that is a common side effect with many cancer treatments. While all legal, these medications are only available through a prescription from a medical professional and should only be used as directed.

There are a few different benefits that CBD may be able to provide on its own. However, research does suggest that CBD’s calming effects may be able to help people fall asleep. That mixed with the natural effects of melatonin may be an excellent combination for those who struggle with falling asleep. Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we recognize this potential benefit and have developed our CBD-melatonin product. Our melatonin soft gels are made with a specially formulated mix of CBD and melatonin to provide you with a restful night. Check it out here

Why Veterinarians May Be Hesitant To Talk About CBD For Your Pet

Have you thought about using cannabidiol (CBD) for your pet? CBD may benefit your pets, such as a dog or a cat, in many different ways. However, you may have noticed your pet’s veterinarian has not recommended it, and they may even be unwilling to talk about it. Why is that? It is not because they do not believe it could help; in fact, many vets believe it can. Instead, it has to do with antiquated laws and the murky waters surrounding them. In this article, we will elaborate on why veterinarians are hesitant to talk about CBD for your pet.

What is CBD?

If you already know what CBD is and how it is made, feel free to move on to the next section. But for those of you who are new, this is good to know.

CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is one of 113 different cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant. It was first discovered and published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society in 1940. Later on, scientists were able to isolate CBD from the cannabis plant further, completely removing the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis. One of the most common questions is, “will CBD make me high?” The answer to that is no. Since there is little to no THC in CBD oil, you do not have to worry about any psychoactive effects (such as feeling high).

How CBD works is a little more complicated to explain. In most mammals, such as humans, dogs, cats, and rats, there is a particular system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) that mediates CBD effects in the body. This system is used to regulate many different functions, including sleeping, pain, the immune system, appetite, and more. The body naturally produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors. Recent studies have shown that CBD may work in the body by affecting the endocannabinoid receptor activity. It does not bind to the neurotransmitters but impacts them indirectly.

Other studies have concluded that CBD can help with anandamide signaling. Anandamide is known as the “bliss molecule.” It is said to make you feel happier and more motivated. Anandamide contributes to many other mechanisms in the body, such as pain management, appetite, fertility, mood, and more.

CBD for your pet

While CBD has been widely studied in humans recently, research on pets has been limited. There are many published studies for rats as they are often used as test subjects. However, not as many for more common pets like for dogs or cats, though they do exist.

Dogs

In 2018 a study was completed on dogs with osteoarthritis and published in the journal of Frontiers in Veterinary Science. The dogs were accessed over a two-week and four-week period. After this time, it was reported that 80% of the dogs experienced improved mobility and inflammation relief.

Another study was recently published in 2019 in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. During this study, dogs with epilepsy were split into two groups. One group was given epilepsy medicine and CBD oil, while the others were given the medication along with a placebo. While both groups had a decrease in incidences, the group given CBD oil had significantly fewer seizures when compared to the placebo group.

Cats

The research on CBD for cats is much more limited. Studies have shown that CBD may help most mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish. However, not many specific studies on the benefits of CBD for cats exist. One study completed in 2019 compared dosing in cats compared to dogs. They found that cats seem to show lower oral absorption rates, and they also eliminate CBD much faster from their bodies than dogs. At the therapeutic dosing rate for dogs (two mg/kg), scientists found that cats show an adverse effect of excessive licking and headshaking. While this did not harm them at all, the researchers concluded that more work in cats is needed to understand the utility and absorption of CBD oil fully. With cats, it is recommended to “start low and go slow” to see how they react and find the right dosing.

Why veterinarians are hesitant to talk about CBD for your pet

If you wonder why veterinarians are reluctant to talk about CBD for your pet, we have the answer. It is not because they do not believe in it. It is because they are worried about losing their license. Unfortunately, due to the stigma of marijuana and THC, hemp and CBD went down along with it. Even though hemp and CBD do not contain any psychoactive properties, for many years, they were listed as a Schedule 1 drug by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). It was not until late 2018 that the DEA allowed CBD to be removed from the Schedule 1 list with the 2018 Farm Bill. This change means that before that time, vets could be fined and potentially lose their license if they even talked about CBD with their clients.

While CBD has been removed from the Schedule 1 list, veterinarians have still been left in the dark about whether they can legally recommend CBD for your pet. Since it is still a murky area, they err on the side of caution and try to avoid discussing it altogether. There is hope on the horizon, though! In 2019, California passed law AB-2215 that directly permits veterinarians to discuss cannabis options with their clients. This has left vets feeling secure in their ability to discuss CBD oil as well, which they have been. Once other states begin to pass similar laws, you will find that your vet will be more open about talking to you about it and recommending CBD for your pet.

Recommendations and conclusion

The choice to try CBD for your pet is entirely up to you. Education is power! Read more on this site about the potential benefits and see if it could be right for your pet. As far as administering goes, a 2018 study found that CBD oil given orally was best for dogs. Dosing was tested at levels of 75-mg and 150-mg. Both were found to be safe, with no adverse side effects. More research needs to be done to understand dosing for cats.

In conclusion, it is not that your vet does not want to talk to you about CBD for your pet, it is just that they are worried about the laws. Once the rest of the laws catch up with the recently passed 2018 Farm Bill, your vet may be more open with discussing CBD with you.

Anxiety, CBD, and Cannabis

Feelings of anxiousness or even just having a nervous disposition are very common and can make life difficult. So, how exactly do people handle it? Many people choose to include things into their daily routines to help, things like mediation. But that may not be sufficient to overcome anxious feelings. Some medications are available, but not everyone wants to use medication due to unwanted side effects. What other options are there that are more direct and holistic? Cannabidiol (CBD) has been well noted for its calming effects. Because of this, it has come to the first as a forerunner in the world of calming products. However, since CBD comes from cannabis, this does leave some with many questions. Let’s clear some of those up.

CBD: A definition

Let’s start by defining CBD because some misconceptions create unnecessary concern.

CBD is a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids are a type of chemical compounds found in a few different plants, but especially in cannabis plants (including hemp and marijuana). There are 113 different cannabinoids in cannabis plants, CBD being just one of them. There is another cannabinoid that CBD is often confused with. That cannabinoid would be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC’s fame mainly comes from the fact that it is psychoactive. That means that it creates the inebriating high that is so commonly associated with cannabis (even though not all cannabis plants have enough THC to create this effect). Because they are both cannabinoids and are found in most forms of cannabis, CBD and THC are thought to be the same. However, CBD is not psychoactive. It does not create any sort of inebriation or high.

There are two primary forms of cannabis: hemp and marijuana. CBD products are usually made using hemp rather than marijuana. This is for a couple of different reasons. The first is that hemp is high in CBD levels, but low in THC (less than 0.3%, to be exact). Marijuana, meanwhile, has high levels of THC and varying degrees of CBD. As you can guess, it is much easier for CBD manufacturers to use hemp to extract, rather than from marijuana.

The other reason why CBD companies prefer hemp over marijuana is that hemp is federally legal, whereas marijuana’s legal status varies. In 2018, the United States passed the newest version of the Farm Bill. This is a bill that gets looked at and passed every five years. It affects all things agricultural, including what farmers can and cannot grow. In that year’s version of the bill included a provision that officially legalized hemp (with some restrictions in individual states). Marijuana, however, is still federally illegal throughout the United States. Some states have legalized on one level or another, but only a handful.

Now that we have a better idea of what CBD is and where it comes from, let’s talk about what it may be able to do for feelings of anxiousness.

How CBD may be able help you achieve a sense of calm

Research on the effects of CBD has been rising in the last few years. As the number of studies goes up, so does our understanding of the cannabinoid. One of the most significant areas of study has been CBD’s effect on one’s mental state. Let’s talk about some of those studies.

For example, this study had people with Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) participate in public speaking, which can cause some severe feelings of anxiousness within that disorder. They gave each of the test subjects a supplement before they performed. Some of the test subjects got CBD, while others got a placebo. The researchers concluded that those test subjects that were given CBD did much better in their task than those given a placebo.

Another study looked at how CBD could affect chronically stressed mice. They gave the mice doses of CBD and studied their brains to see how it changed them. They found that the CBD was significantly able to help calm the stress that the mice were feeling.

These studies, among the many others, suggest that CBD could do a lot to aid in reducing feelings of anxiousness. This means that the cannabinoid may be able to provide relief for a lot of people.

How much CBD is enough?

It is always good to understand how to take a new dietary supplement, so we should probably talk about how to know how much CBD to take. However, this is a little tricky as CBD sits differently with everyone, so there is no set amount. But before we can talk about how to find the right amount of CBD for you, we need to discuss what you should be looking out for.

CBD, while considered safe overall, does have some side effects. These are not very serious side effects, but they are still not fun. They generally include things like nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. They are typically associated with taking too much of the cannabinoid, which is good news. That means that they are fairly easy to avoid for most people. So, let’s talk about how to do that.

The best way to start taking CBD to avoid side effects is to start the low amount. Start out with the smallest amount possible and then wait a little while to see how it sits with you. Remember, some CBD products take longer than others to start working. Then, if there are no negative side effects after a while, but you still are not getting your desired result, you can try taking more. Increase the amount in small increments to avoid the side effects. Once you find the smallest amount that gives you positive effects without the negative ones, you know that you have found the right amount of CBD.

It is important to note that CBD does not mix well with certain medications. Some medications don’t work as well, or stop working entirely, in the presence of CBD. If you are taking medications and would like to try CBD, be sure to talk about it with your healthcare provider first.

There is a lot to know about CBD. But one of the more potentially beneficial ones is about its calming effect that it may have on people. The research that has been done in this area, as you can see has been incredibly promising.

CBD in Golden, Colorado

It is likely that you associate the Cannabis sativa plant with the great state of Colorado, and for good reason. Colorado was one of the first states to legalize marijuana! Although our cannabidiol (CBD) is not derived from the marijuana plant, we here at Panacea Life Sciences could not be prouder to be members of the Colorado crew. What makes our CBD stand out from others here? What products do we offer those who live here in CO. with us as well as those throughout the states? Read on to find out!

Let’s start here: what is CBD?

Even in a place that has legalized the marijuana plant, there can still be some confusion on what CBD is and what it is not. CBD is one of the 113 different cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis sativa plant comes in several different varieties. One of them being the marijuana plant, which most people are familiar with. This plant contains high amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and lower amounts of CBD. Because of this those who use marijuana get ‘high’ or a feeling of euphoria. This is not legal everywhere because of the psychoactive component, but it is legal in a handful of states (including Colorado) for medicinal and recreational use.

The hemp plant however has been legalized in all 50 states (with restrictions in some states) thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill. Because of this bill farmers across the United States can grow and sell the hemp plant. The hemp plant is another variety of the Cannabis sativa plant. Hemp contains high amounts of CBD and at or less than 0.3% of THC. This amount of THC cannot get a user ‘high’ like the marijuana plant. We here at Panacea Life Sciences use the hemp plant to make our CBD products so that those within the state and surrounding states may use our high-quality products.

How can I use CBD?

There are many ways that one can use CBD products and if you are from the great state of Colorado, we wouldn’t be surprised if you already knew the potential benefits. But here is a refresher:

CBD: the products

Now that you have refreshed your memory on what CBD may be able to do for you. What product will you choose? Here is a mind-jolt on products:

Panacea Life Sciences is happy to be a part of the Colorado community. We are committed to giving the best quality products as well as the most up-to-date information available surrounding CBD.

Where Are CBD Gummies Available?

If you have been on social media lately, it is likely that you will have seen cannabidiol (CBD) products being advertised. In fact, it is likely that you have seen Cannabis products being advertised as well. They are incredibly popular with the online community right now, influencing every industry from makeup and beauty to health and wellbeing.

And is it any wonder that these products are so popular?

The stigma surrounding CBD and Cannabis products has been dissipating rapidly as people accept that Cannabis is not just for people who want to get ‘high’, and the benefits of CBD are being recognized all over the world, which is simply fantastic to see.

CBD edibles are one of the most popular types of CBD products right now. Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we are big fans of CBD candies- and we think you will be too. Today, we are going to be exploring CBD edible in more depth and looking at everything you need to know about it as a user.

What is a CBD edible?

So, what exactly is a CBD edible?

To put it plainly, ‘CBD edible’ is a coverall term used to describe a number of gummies, candies, and sweets that have been infused with cannabidiol and other natural elements.

What are the benefits of CBD edible?

As with other forms of CBD, there may be great benefits to consider when it comes to CBD edibles. One of the main benefits of taking CBD edibles is that it is low-key and discreet. The amount of CBD found in most mainstream edibles is fairly minimal and may provide a much calmer effect than some other products might.

Additionally, CBD edibles are very convenient and easy to take around with you. Unlike things like CBD vape or pens that may take up more space or draw more attention, CBD edibles are discreet, portable, and handy.

CBD edibles may have many of the same benefits that other products like CBD oil has. It may be helpful to increase joint health and increase an overall sense of well-being. If you are looking for a gentle yet effective source of CBD to introduce into your life, it could be a great move to get your hands on some edibles.

Are there any negative aspects of CBD edible?

Of course, this would not be a fair article if we did not note any potential negative sides to CBD edible. It is important to make sure that you always do your research before using products like CBD gummies or candies, to check that they are verified and do not contain anything harmful.

Furthermore, some CBD products may interfere with existing medications and health conditions. If you are looking to introduce CBD into your life, make sure to consult with a medical professional beforehand to keep yourself safe.

Where can you find great CBD edibles?

In order to find CBD edibles, we would suggest starting by looking up local laws and guidelines on whether CBD is legal in your location first (hemp-derived CBD is legal throughout the United States, but some states have restrictions on CBD use). While the movement to accept cannabis has been fantastic so far, there are still plenty of places around the world that are not on board with it.

If you do live in a place where CBD is legal, accepted, and widely used, it is likely that you will be able to find fantastic CBD gummies and candies in nearby dispensaries or stores. They are incredibly popular with the community, and there are plenty of different types to try out- so you are sure to find some great ones nearby.

If there are not any nearby places where you can get cannabis, hemp, and CBD products, do not worry. The online community for products like these is thriving. Spend some time looking on social media and searching for brands online to get involved with. Research is very important here to make sure that you are getting the best deal possible.

Are you looking for somewhere to get started with buying CBD products? We are proud to offer a tasty CBD, hemp product on our website for people to enjoy. Take a look here at one of our personal favorites- our cherry bomb CBD gummies

To sum up

As you can see, there may be a number of benefits to eating CBD candies and gummies. They may have wonderful effects on the body and the mind and are very delicious too. What’s not to love?

If you are somebody who wants to increase your well-being, buying some CBD edibles may be a great move for you. The same can be said for people who deal with excessive stress or mental strain. This is one of the most common reasons for taking CBD gummies, candies and edibles, alongside comfort.

Something important to remember is that you should always do your research before purchasing products like CBD edible. While they are incredibly beneficial for a lot of users, it is important to know exactly what it is that you are buying. Make sure to research a supplier beforehand and look into whether you have any existing conditions or medications that taking CBD products could affect.

What Is The Average Age Of A Cannabis User?

The world of marijuana is evolving. With the Farm bill of 2018, the cannabis industry has seen a rapid change in the last year. With more products, production, research, and development, cannabis firms are rapidly expanding.

This also gives rise to the availability and access to products the local consumers have. This may include cannabis tea and coffee shops, or general dispensaries. As ease of access changes, so does the audience using cannabis products.

It is very important for anyone in the cannabis industry to know their core demographics. Hence the question what is the average age of a cannabis user? And what demographic uses it the most.

The Age Disparity

Much of the market research done by those in the trade, reveals that most Cannabis is purchased between the ages ranges of 21 to 95. Yes, which also means that there isn’t a specific niche but, in fact, a mass-marketed product.

Most of the consumers are also men, showing that 68.9% of the consumers were men, while 31.1% were women. Out of the entire sample, the data also revealed the different age groups and how much of the consumer market did they make.

Currently the largest group of consumer marijuana is 25–29 years old, accounting for 20% of the market, while 21 to 24-year-olds make up 16% of the market.

There is also a different mean age for both men and women. The average for men stands at 37.4 years, while for women, it is slightly older, standing at 38.2 years.

Overall, you will find the average cannabis user to be 37.6 years old, which is fairly young in the market.

Data specifically focused in America also shows similar results. A Statista 2020 study shows how 18 to 29-year-old Americans are the most popular age group using cannabis products.

This is followed by 50 to 64-year-olds, taking 12% of the sample size. The table below dictates 4 more popular Cannabis users in America.

Age Group  Share of the entire Sample Size
18 to 29 years  22%
30 to 49 years  11%
50 to 64 years  12%
65 years and above  3%

How Is This Data Collected?

It is very important to know how the data is collected, to know whether or not the information is accurate. Many official statistics do not amount for illegal use, or under the age of consent. There is a chance that the numbers displayed are over or understated.

This is why it is important for people to know where the source comes from! Most of the cannabis user data come from sales registries. There is much sales data in addition to customer loyalty programs that allow researchers to gain insight into what the average cannabis user looks like.

Why Is It Important To Know Your Demographic?

Throughout the supply chain, it is very important to know your core demographic. The age-group your target makes sure that the industry evolves in a way that is the most appealing to them.

As most 25 to 29-year-old employed people use cannabis both for recreation and medical benefits, allowing producers, retailers, dispensaries, and everyone in between to develop and create better access to Cannabis.

This includes e-commerce Cannabis brands, more information available online, and ways people can access a local dispensary nearby.

Knowing specific demographics  allows producers to save on time, energy, and resources to create targeted campaigns as well as appeal to their core audience.

Why Do Young People Use It The Most?

The data reveals that the most common users of cannabis are the younger group of the lot while there are some senior users; they do not take much of the market.

This also brings forth the question of why do young people use it the most? What might be some of the reasons this age group is the most popular.

To be simple, it has much to do with the ease of access. After the Farm Bill of 2018, the legalization allowed Cannabis and Marijuana products to be sold under the legal limit of 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol.

People can easily go to a local dispensary, CBD tea and coffee shops or order CBD oil and its byproducts online.

However, there are many other reasons as to why many younger people are opting for both medicinal benefits and recreational uses.

The key to this is awareness. There is much  data online that educated people about cannabis, how to use it, what it can help with, and how it may affect your body. This allows people to try it out for themselves.

Awareness also leads to people using cannabis for managing pain, inflammation, and mood disorders. There is a lot of research and development on how cannabis is helping people and how it has evolved into one of the more popular medically beneficial compounds.

The industry calls it the ‘green gold’ for a reason! Another major reason is the affordability factor. Many young 25-year-olds are employed or do part-time jobs, which allows them to have some level of income.

Data collected by Headset shows how most people are spending an average of $25 to $50 in a Marijuana store or a dispensary.

There are many parallels that can be drawn from data from other countries as well. In Canada, 25 to 34-year-olds make 26.9% of the population, making them the most popular age group. The average popular age here is slightly higher here but similar to data shown in the states.

In Canada, 15 to 24-year-olds also have a large share of the market, giving them 20% out of the survey population.

Epidiolex is Schedule V: Why?

Over the past few years, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been reviewing and approving a few different cannabidiol (CBD) based medications. This includes one called Epidiolex. This approval has also led to Epidiolex receiving a Schedule V designation by the FDA. But what does that mean? And what even is Epidiolex? Or CBD? Because we here at Panacea Life Sciences are dedicated to educating people on CBD, we thought we should cover all of this.

What is CBD? What is Epidiolex?

It is essential to understand any medication that you or a loved one may take. So, let’s define medication and the main active ingredient in it, CBD.

CBD is found in cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana. It is a member of a group of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. There are a lot of different cannabinoids out there. Researchers have identified over 113 so far, and are likely to find more in the future. CBD numbers just one of these 113. There is another cannabinoid that is more famous than CBD, which would be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC is so famous because it is psychoactive. That means that it creates an inebriating high. It is not uncommon to think that because CBD and THC are both cannabinoids found in cannabis, CBD is also psychoactive. However, this is not a correct line of thought. CBD is not psychoactive. It may help its users achieve a greater sense of calm, but it will not cause any inebriating effect.

CBD is generally taken from hemp, rather than marijuana. While they are both cannabis plants, they are variations of the plant. Hemp has high levels of CBD and low levels of THC. Meanwhile, marijuana has high levels of THC and varying degrees of CBD. CBD product manufacturers prefer hemp because it is easier to extract CBD from (due to the cannabinoid’s high levels) and more comfortable to keep THC out to the extract. Some CBD products do have THC in them, but it is less than 0.3%, which is not enough to cause any sort of high.

There have been many studies looking into the different effects that CBD may have on people and the kind of help it may be able to provide. One area that has been looked at a lot is CBD’s effect on epileptic seizures. For example, this study asked parents of children with epilepsy to try giving their child some CBD-enriched cannabis. The researchers then asked the parents if they saw an improvement in the number of seizures that their children had. Most of the parents reported a drop in the name of seizures.

Another study, published in 2017, looked at this same concept, but a bit more closely. The researchers induced seizures and other epileptic behaviors in rats. They then gave some of the rats CBD, while others were given none. They then observed the rats see how their rates of seizures and behavior changed. The rats that were given the CBD were recorded to have few seizures and reduced epileptic reactions.

These studies, along with many others, have shown that CBD could be beneficial in keeping epileptic seizures to a minimum. As a result, the development of Epidiolex came about. It is a CBD based medication that is aimed at helping people (especially children) reduce the seizures that come along with two severe forms of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet syndromes. In 2018, just before hemp was legalized in the United States, the FDA officially approved Epidiolex. After its approval by the FDA, the medication was then moved to a Schedule V designation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). But what exactly does that mean?

What does “Schedule V” mean? Why does Epidiolex get that title?

When dealing with anything to do with cannabis, it is not unusual to see terms like “Schedule V.” But words like that can seem intimidating if you are unfamiliar with them. However, if you arm yourself with knowledge, you will soon see that a term like that is nothing to be afraid of.

The FDA and the DEA have what is called Drug Scheduling. They use this to essentially classify how dangerous a substance is. There are five categories. The categorizing of a substance is based on how likely it for someone to abuse its use in a dangerous way. Schedule I is the highest level. It is reserved for substances like LSD and heroin that are classified as having no medical value, high abuse potential, and low safety margins. As the numbers of the scheduling get higher, the less serious the substance is considered to be. Meaning that Schedule V is considered to be the least dangerous of them all.

Epidiolex is considered Schedule V because It is considered to be at low risk of being abused. This makes it no longer a controlled substance. That means that it is not heavily regulated by the government. This designation makes it easy (and legal) for doctors to prescribe Epidiolex, benefiting many people, especially children.

What other CBD products are out there?

Medication is not the only option if you are interested in trying CBD. There is a whole world of CBD products out there for people to try. So, let’s talk about what choices you have when looking for CBD.

Edibles

This is one of the most popular ways to take CBD. They are exactly what they sound like, food or drink that has been made with CBD. People tend to prefer edibles because they are easy to take and taste great. However, they do take a while for the CBD to start working. This is because the food/drink needs to digest before the CBD can enter the bloodstream and start working. They do also have the longest lasting effect. So, it is a bit of a tradeoff.

Tinctures & oils

Tinctures and oils are pretty simple. They are CBD extract that has been mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut oil. These are also a popular product because they offer a certain degree of flexibility. You can take oils and tinctures by mixing them in with food or drink. However, like with edibles, the food or drink needs to digest before the CBD can start its work. You can also take them by placing a few drops directly into your mouth. This is the faster option, especially if you place the drops under your tongue, as the skin under the tongue is thin. This allows the CBD to absorb into the system faster.

Capsules & tablets

If you are looking for a product that is more pill-like, these are the ones you should keep an eye out for. The capsules are the most pill-like and are usually soft gels. That means that they are made using liquid CBD extract. This makes it so that they digest faster and start working quicker. CBD tablets are a little bit different, but still a good option. They are usually sublingual, which means that you place them under your tongue and allow them to dissolve. Like with tinctures and oils, this allows the CBD to absorb into the bloodstream through the thin skin under the tongue.

Topicals

CBD topicals include anything that you use on your skin, rather than take orally. They can be lotions, salves, creams, balms, and hand sanitizers, among many other products. These are likely to give you a more localized effect, rather than the overall one you usually get from other CBD products. This is because the CBD never enters the bloodstream. Instead, the CBD in the topical absorbs through the pores on the skin. It does its work there but does not move much beyond where it is placed.

Other FDA approved medications

There are FDA approved medications that have CBD as one of the main active ingredients that are not Epidiolex or based around epilepsy at all. Most of them are for helping fight the nausea that is a common side effect of cancer treatments. Another one is called Sativex. That one is made to help combat the spastic pain that comes along with multiple sclerosis.

As you can see, the Schedule V designation on Epidiolex is nothing more than a way of saying that it is considered to be safe overall by both the FDA and the DEA. There is still more research that needs to be done on CBD and CBD based medications. As time goes on it will be interesting to see what medications are approved by the FDA and the DEA.

What Effects Can CBD Cause?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the biggest holistic trends out there right now. But many people do not even really know what CBD is or what positive effects it may cause. Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we are dedicated to education, as well as providing people with high quality CBD products. We want people to properly understand what CBD is, what benefits it may offer, and what it will not do. Let’s start with the basics.

Let’s talk about what exactly CBD is

It is best to understand what CBD is, before we talk about what effects it could have. This information could help you understand these effects and why it is so popular.

Cannabis plants, like marijuana and hemp, contain a class of chemical compounds, known as cannabinoids. There are many cannabinoids in each plant. In fact, scientists so far have discovered over 113 different cannabinoids, and will discover more as time goes on. These 113 different cannabinoids include CBD.

You may be thinking that CBD is the only cannabinoid that you have ever heard of. However, that is very unlikely to be true. There is one other cannabinoid that is more well-known than CBD. It is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is much more famous than CBD, because of its effect on people. It has an effect that is known as psychoactive. That means that it creates the inebriating high that is commonly associated with cannabis plants. It is a common misconception that CBD and THC are the same in virtually every way. But there is a major difference between them. CBD is not psychoactive. It does not create the high that THC does. We will get into what it may actually do below.

While CBD is found in both variations of cannabis (hemp and marijuana), it is normally extracted from hemp. There are a couple of reasons for this. One of the reasons is the level of CBD and other cannabinoids in each of the variations. Marijuana has high levels of THC and varying levels of CBD. This makes the extraction of CBD from marijuana complicated. Hemp, on the other hand, has high levels of CBD and low levels of THC (less than 0.3%, to be exact). This, as you can imagine, makes the extraction that much easier.

Another reason why CBD manufacturers normally choose hemp over marijuana is a matter of legality. Marijuana is federally illegal in the United States. There are some states that have legalized it (whether for medical or general use), but as of the writing of this article, there are only a handful. Hemp is a different story. In 2018, a new version of the Farm Bill was passed. This is a bill that is reviewed and passed again ever five years. It controls all things agricultural, including what farmers can and cannot grow and sell. That year the bill included a provision that officially legalized hemp across the country (though it is worth noting that some states have their own restrictions on this cannabis variation).

So, there is your overview of what CBD is. But there is still an important thing that needs to be talked about in regards to CBD. That is, what kind of effects could it have on people? Let’s talk about it.

What effects could CBD have?

Over the past couple of decades there has been a noticeable upswing in the number of studies that have been done on CBD. Many of them have found out some interesting potential benefits. But what exactly have those studies said?

May help promote a sense of calm

This is a particularly popular area of study for researchers interested in CBD. One study wanted to see how CBD interacted with chronically stressed mice. They found that not only does CBD help calm the mice, but it is based on how the CBD interacts with the hippocampus of the brain. This study wanted to look at how people with anxiety could cope using CBD. The researchers had people with social anxiety participate in public speaking. Some of the test subjects were given CBD, while others were given a placebo. Those who were given the CBD did much better than those given the placebo.

May support joint health

Inflammation is a common issue that can make movement difficult, especially when the inflammation is in the joints. Medical researchers have been looking into ways to help fight inflammation for a while. Recently research has been pointing to CBD being a potential help. This study looked at CBD and inflammation caused by oxidative stress. The researchers determined that CBD was able to help a lot with the inflammation. Another study wanted to look at how CBD interacts with collagen-induced arthritis. The researchers concluded that CBD was very useful for helping reduce the discomfort associated with the arthritis.

May help combat neurodegeneration

Neurodegeneration is a very serious issue and finding ways to help fight it is a major focus for many medical researchers. Recent research has suggested that CBD may be able to aid in this fight. This study, for example, found that CBD, when combined with THC, was able to help slow neurodegeneration caused by Huntington’s disease. This other study looked at how CBD fought neurodegeneration in animal models. The researchers concluded that CBD was very helpful in the fight against the death of brain cells.

These are just a handful of examples of the potential effects of CBD. There are many other potential effects that CBD may have. If you are curious about the other effects, a quick search on PubMed will show thousands of studies that have found promising results regarding CBD. There is likely to be more research on the cannabinoid in the future, so there is likely that we will hear more about what CBD may be able to do for you. It is important to remember that the only effect that CBD will definitely not have is one that would create a high.

Does CBD have side effects? Can they be avoided?

While CBD is considered to be safe overall, it does have some negative side effects. They usually consist of things like mild nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. However, these are usually associated with taking too much of the cannabinoid. So, the side effects can be avoided by taking the right amount of CBD for you. But this does raise a question. How much CBD is the right amount?

Well, there is no easy answer to that question. This is because everyone reacts to CBD a little bit differently. Some people require high levels of the cannabinoid to feel any sort of effect. Others only need a little bit before they start noticing some negative side effects. Unfortunately, there is no clear connection between these differences of experiences. Weight, age, and genetics could have an effect, but it is unclear. So, the best way to go about avoiding the side effects, is to start the amount of CBD that you take low and slow. Start out with as small of an amount as possible. Then wait for the CBD to take effect (some CBD products take longer than others to start working). If you do not feel any effects, negative or positive, then you can add on to how much you take. Once you hit the amount that gives you the positive effects that you are looking for, but without any negative side effects, then you know how much is the right amount for you. There is no need to test your limits by taking an increasing amount until you start to experience the negative side effects. You should do your absolute best to avoid them whenever possible.

It is important to note that CBD does not always sit well with all medications. There are some medications that do not work as well in the presence of CBD. Others stop working entirely when taken with CBD. If you are taking prescription medications and would like to start taking CBD as well, you should talk to your healthcare provider first. They should know how the cannabinoid will sit with your medication.

As you can see, there are many potential benefits and effects that CBD may have. It is important to note that a psychoactive effect is not one of those. The only way to really know what CBD may have in store for you, is to try some of it out. So, why not give it a try?

How Old Do You Need to be to Buy CBD Oil?

There truly has been an increase in interest surrounding cannabidiol (CBD) in the last few years. As this interest rises, so does the number of questions surrounding it. Luckily, here at Panacea Life Sciences, we are all about answering questions and ensuring our customers understand everything there is to know about CBD. In this article, we will answer one of the most asked questions regarding CBD: how old do you need to be to buy CBD?

What exactly is CBD?

If you are interested in purchasing a CBD product, it is good to know what CBD even is. After all, you should research any dietary supplement before you start taking it.

CBD is a part of plethora of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. These compounds are found in cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana. CBD certainly is one of the best-known cannabinoids, but it is not the only famous one. There is one that is more well-known. It is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The acronym THC is probably plenty familiar to you, being one of the most well-known cannabinoids found in cannabis. Its wellknown-ness comes mainly from the fact that it is psychoactive. That means that it creates the inebriating effect generally talked about as a high. Because they are both noted cannabinoids, many believe that CBD and THC are the same in just about every way, especially their effect on people. However, this is not the case. CBD is not psychoactive at all.

There have been and are different studies that have looked at the possible beneficial uses for CBD. Some of them have found that CBD may be suitable for helping the user achieve a greater sense of calm. For example, this study concluded that after putting test subjects with social anxiety through a public speaking test. They gave some of them CBD and others a placebo. The ones who were given CBD did much better than those who were not. Another area that has been looked at a lot is how CBD interacts with inflammation. This study found that CBD was exceedingly helpful in reducing inflammation that was caused by a lung injury. These studies are just a couple of examples of the plethora of research that is going on in the CBD world right now. It’s worth looking into it further if you are interested in buying CBD.

We have covered one of the more prominent misconceptions surrounding CBD, but another big one needs to be touched on. It has to do with CBD’s legal status.

Is CBD even legal?

This is a reasonable question because CBD does come from cannabis, and that plant does not have the best track record with the legality in the United States. Before we can talk about whether or not CBD is legal, we need to explain some differences.

Much like THC and CBD, there is some confusion about whether hemp and marijuana are different. While they are both cannabis plants, they are different variations of Cannabis sativa. Their main differences lie in what cannabinoids they have. Marijuana is high in THC content, and it has varying levels of CBD. Hemp, differently, has high levels of CBD and minimal THC. It is legally defined as having less than 0.3% THC content.

These differences are what determine the legal status of these two cannabis variations. In 2018, the Farm Bill was passed. This is a bill that is reviewed and passed every five years. It affects all things agricultural, including what farmers can/cannot grow or sell. In the year 2018 the bill included a provision that officially legalized the growing and selling of hemp in the country. This is because of the plant’s low THC content. Marijuana is still federally illegal because of its high THC content. There are a quite a few of states that have legalized it on some level. Some only for medicinal use, others for general recreational use.

Most CBD companies use hemp to make their products. This is partly because of hemp’s high CBD content, but also because of hemp’s legal status. Some states have restrictions on hemp. If you are wanting to buy a CBD product, it is always good to know what your state’s laws are concerning hemp.

So, to put it simply, yes, CBD is legal, if it is derived from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC content.

What age do you need to be to buy it?

Now for the big question, how old do you need to be to buy CBD?

This may be bit of a difficult question to answer because it varies. The immediate thought maybe that you need to be 21 since that is the legal drinking age and the legal age to buy marijuana products where it is legal. However, because CBD does not have any inebriating effects, as we discussed above, it does not necessarily have the same restrictions as other substances.

The primary variable in this is the CBD company. Some companies require you to be twenty-one or older, while others require you to be only 18. There are even a few that do not have any age restrictions. It is best to look at a CBD company’s website before going to their storefront if you are under 21 or 18 interested in buying. That way, you do not have to be turned away if they have a restriction that you do not meet. There may also be some restrictions that are in place due to your state’s laws. It is always good to be aware of your state’s laws regarding cannabis in any form.

These restrictions are usually based on the fact that we still do not know what effects CBD may have on developing brains. There are studies that have looked at only children and CBD (like this one). While the studies that have been done are promising, there are not enough to make CBD companies confident enough to recommend it for use on children, unless prescribed by a doctor.

To sum this up, there is no one set answer to how old you need to be to buy CBD. It could be 18, 21, or any age as long as you have the money to buy it. To know if you can buy the CBD product you are interested you will need to do some research on your end.

What kinds of CBD products are there?

So, if you are eligible to buy CBD in your state, you will soon discover that there are a lot of options to choose from. It can seem a little intimidating if you are new to CBD, so let’s talk about the possibilities and help you decide.

Oils & tinctures

These are often considered the simpler versions of CBD products, as they are usually just CBD mixed into a type of carrier oil, like coconut oil or another natural oil. One benefit of tinctures and oils is that you have some flexibility in how you can take them. You can take them by mixing them in with some food or drink. In doing that, you do need to wait for the food or drink to digest before the CBD can start working. You can also take them by placing a drop or two directly into your mouth. This way is faster because the CBD can absorb into the system through the thin skin under the tongue.

Topicals

Topicals are a category of CBD products that includes anything you rub or place onto your skin, which has been made with CBD. They could be lotions, balms, salves, or even hand sanitizers. CBD topicals are rather different than their orally administered counterparts. They do not ever reach the bloodstream. Instead, they absorb through the pores. From there, they start working but do not move beyond where they are initially placed. This could give you a more localized effect rather than the overall effect that is usually provided by oral products.

FDA-approved medications

There has been an important increase in the number of studies that have been done on CBD and its potential benefits. Some of these studies have led to the development of CBD-based medications that have officially been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Most of these medications are made to help fight the nausea that often comes with cancer treatments. The other big CBD-based medication is called Epidiolex. It is a medication that is aimed at helping reduce the number of epileptic seizures experienced by those with Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet Syndromes.

Edibles

You can probably guess what these are, as the name is more than a little self-explanatory. CBD edibles are any food or drink that has been made with CBD. They are some of the most popular CBD products. This is likely because they are easy to take and taste great. Their only drawback is that the food or drink needs to digest before the CBD can enter your system, so they do take the longest to start working out of all of CBD products.

Capsules & tablets

If you are looking for something that is more pill-like, then these are the products for you. CBD capsules are the most similar to pills. They are made as soft gels, which means that they are made using liquid CBD extract. This way they may be able to digest more quickly and, as a result, have the CBD enter the system faster. CBD tablets are a little bit different. They are usually sublingual. That means you take them by placing one under your tongue and allowing it to dissolve. Like with the tinctures, the thin skin under the tongue allows the CBD to enter the bloodstream and start working faster.

This may seem like you do not actually have that many options. However, these are just broad categories of the options you have when it comes to buying the cannabinoid. There are many variations within each category, so your choices when it comes to buying CBD are practically endless. That is not even including the new CBD products that are being workshopped all the time. If you are really interested in the cannabinoid, it may be worth keeping your eyes and ears open to see what new developments may be introduced in the CBD industry.

To round up this article, there is no one set age requirement to buy CBD, but it is likely that you may have to be 21 or 18. If a CBD company does have an age requirement like that, it is more than likely, they will require you to prove your age with your driver’s license or ID. So, if you are buying form one of those companies, be sure to have that on you at the time to make your and the employee’s lives easier. Be sure to also read the labels of the CBD product you are buying. Most manufacturers have a recommended age for use on them. All of this is to ensure that you and your loved ones are using CBD responsibly and to keep you safe.

Are you curious about other aspects of CBD? Or are just ready to buy some and are tired of reading articles about it? If you answered yes to either of those, you are on the right site. Where to Buy CBD Oil Online?

Everything is available online these days, spurred on by the fact that more and more people prefer online shopping. This could leave those interested in cannabidiol (CBD) wondering where they can find it online and how to know if the company is trustworthy. Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we are dedicated not only to providing people with the best CBD products possible but also to educating everyone on CBD. This includes giving you a guide to shopping for CBD online.

An overview of CBD

To understand what makes a good CBD company to buy from, you need to understand what exactly CBD is.

Cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana, contain a particular class of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. These compounds are very diverse, with there being over 113 that scientists have found so far. CBD is one of these cannabinoids. However, there is another cannabinoid that you have probably heard of much more often than CBD. That would be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC is so famous because of the effect that it has on its users. THC is psychoactive, which means that it creates the inebriating high that is so often associated with cannabis plants. Because they are both found in cannabis plants and because they are both cannabinoids, many people think that CBD and THC are the same. That CBD is also psychoactive. However, this is not true. CBD is not psychoactive at all.

CBD is found in both hemp and marijuana plants, it’s more often extracted from hemp than marijuana. There are a few of reasons for this. One of them is that hemp has exceptionally high CBD levels and low levels of THC, which makes the extraction much more manageable. Marijuana has high THC levels and varying degrees of CBD, making CBD’s removal very difficult. Another reason is that, as of 2018, hemp is federally legal throughout the United States. This is due to its low levels of THC. Marijuana, on the other hand, is still federally illegal. However, some states have legalized marijuana, whether for only medical use or general use.

What makes the right CBD provider?

It’s not difficult to find CBD products online. All you need to do is google “CBD,” and plenty of CBD manufacturers and distributors will come up. What makes an online CBD company worth your time and money is the big thing you need to be asking. Well, let’s talk about how exactly to figure that out.

The main thing you need to be willing to do when looking for an excellent CBD provider is read. You will need to read reviews of the company. You should be looking at reviews not just of the products you are looking at, but also of the company. Because of this you get a good idea of the quality of their products. You should also read the reviews on third party sites, not just on the company’s website.

A trustworthy CBD company should be transparent about its extraction processes. They should have information on how they extract the cannabinoid and manufacture their products. If they do not have anything about that on their site, you may want to stay away. They should also be testing the quality of their products. The testing should not just be in-house. They should also have a third party do some of their testings, to help avoid potential bias. If they do not have information on those tests and, if possible, the results of that testing, you should avoid that company.

Another hallmark of a good CBD company is having information about the latest rules and regulations set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This shows that they are paying close attention and are complying as fully as possible. If a company does not have information like that on their site, there is a chance that they will not work with the FDA as closely as they should be. As a result, you may not want to deal with them.

One thing that may help you decide if a CBD company is one to buy from is their prices. Some companies are trying to milk as much as they can out of the cannabinoid’s sudden popularity. That means that they charge much more than their product is worth. This does not mean that it is the best CBD out there. They are likely charging more just because. There are also companies on the other end of the spectrum that are charging pretty much nothing. This could be an indication of the quality of the CBD. They may not be providing people with the best CBD products that they could. If a price seems too high or seems too good to be true, it may be. It is worth to shop around a bit and figure out an amount that is a bit more middle of the road. Those products are likely to be actually worth what the price says.

Different Products

Hopefully you have a better idea of what to look for in a CBD company let’s talk about what those companies may offer. There are many CBD products out there, as it is a natural extract to make into just about anything. So, let’s go over your options.

Oils & tinctures

It is only fair that we touch on these first, as they are some of the most common forms to find CBD in. These are CBD extracts that have been mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut oil, for example. There is a certain aspect of flexibility that comes with taking these. You have a couple of options. You can mix the oil or tincture in with your favorite food or drink. But when considering the CBD like that, you do need to wait for the food or drink to digest before the CBD can start working. You can also take oil or tincture by placing the drops directly into your mouth. This is the quicker method, as the CBD just absorbs through the thin skin under the tongue, entering the bloodstream more quickly.

Edibles

You can probably guess what exactly CBD edibles are. They are anything edible (food or drink) that has been made using CBD. These are some of the most popular CBD products. This is likely because they taste great and are easy to take. However, they do have their downside, much like when you mix oil or tincture in with food or drink, you need to wait for the edible to digest before it can start working. Edibles will provide a longer-lasting CBD effect.

FDA approved medications

The FDA has been reviewing many CBD based medications. So far, a handful has officially been approved. Most of them are made to help combat nausea that is a common side effect of many cancer treatments. Another one is Epidiolex, a medication that is made to help keep epileptic seizures caused by Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet syndromes to a minimum. There is also Sativex, which contains both CBD and THC, and aims to help fight the pain that is often caused by multiple sclerosis. These medications are just the beginning as it is likely to be more approved in the future.

Capsules and Tablets

If you are looking for something easy to swallow product, but the uses for the FDA approved medications are not something you need, you may want to look for members of this CBD product category. Capsules are the most similar to pills, but they are generally soft gels. That means that they are made using liquid CBD extract. This also means that they may digest quicker and, as a result, may start working more quickly. Tablets are a little bit different. Most CBD tablets are made to be sublingual. That means that you place them under your tongue and allow them to dissolve. Like with oils and tinctures, the CBD absorbs through the thin skin under the tongue and enters the bloodstream very quickly from there.

Topicals

This category of CBD products includes anything you use on your skin made with the cannabinoid. They could be lotions, balms, creams, salves, or even hand sanitizers. CBD topicals are more than a little different from their oral counterparts. The big difference between them is based on the fact that the CBD in topicals usually will not reach the bloodstream. Instead, the cannabinoid absorbs through the pores in the skin. From there, it does its work, but never moves much beyond where it is placed. This means that they provide a more localized effect, unlike the oral products, which are more likely to give you an overall effect.

These are just broad categories of what is out there at the moment. There many subcategories within each. You may want to try a some different products before you find the right one for you. Be open to exploration, and you could find the perfect CBD product.

How to use CBD properly

It is not uncommon to see a question about how much is the right amount to take when it comes to CBD. There is no set amount of formula to figure out how much you should consider. This is because everyone experiences CBD a little differently due to several factors. This means that figuring out the right level of CBD needs to be found through a certain degree of experimentation. But before we can explain what exactly that entails, we should probably cover what you should be looking out for, to figure out when you have taken too much.

In general, CBD is considered to be safe for use by those over the age of 18 and who are not pregnant or nursing. However, that does not mean that can have negative side effects. These side effects tend to include things like mild nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. While none of these are necessarily what many would consider serious or dangerous, they are still not fun, and you should do your best to avoid them. That should not be too difficult, as the side effects are generally associated with taking too much of the cannabinoid.

So, how do you figure out the right amount of CBD for you? The best way is to start out with low doses. Take as little an amount as possible, and then wait an appropriate amount of time to see how it sits with you. Remember that somethings take longer to start working than others. After you have waited the appropriate amount of time, and you do not feel any negative or positive effects, then you take some more. You should not keep adding on to your amount until you feel the negative side effects. The smallest amount that gives you positive effects, with no negative ones is the right amount for you.

It’s important to remember that some medications do not mix well with CBD. Some do not work well in the presence of CBD, while others stop working entirely. This is why, if you are taking medication and are interested in trying CBD, you discuss it with your healthcare provider first. They should know how your medication will mix with the cannabinoid.

Navigating the world of CBD may seem a little intimidating, especially online, where you do not necessarily have anyone to talk to about it. Hopefully, this blog has given you a better idea of what to look for when shopping for CBD online. Cannabidiol may have a lot of potential to provide many people with help in their daily lives, but it is still important to know that you are getting your CBD from a trustworthy source.  If you have more questions about CBD and how it could benefit you, please contact us at [email protected], or [email protected]

Interesting Uses of CBD Oil

Cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, or CBD for short, has become a household name since the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill. Along with it has come a treasure trove of products and a ravenous need among researchers to discover all the magical uses CBD can offer. One major target subject amongst researchers is CBD oil.

Now, you might already have caught wind of a few CBD oil uses currently floating around. Perhaps you are well aware of the benefits CBD may offer dogs, the potential to ease feelings of anxiousness, enhance overall well-being and help decrease feelings of discomfort or more recently, the power of CBD hand sanitizer. I’d be willing to bet there are at least a few interesting uses of CBD oil you haven’t heard of though.

Skin Health

Acne is the most common skin condition among humans, affecting an estimated 9.4% of the global population.1 The causes of acne can be attributed to a number of factors, with two prominent culprits being: inflammation and sebum overproduction.2

Sebum is an oily, slightly waxy secretion produced on the face and scalp by the sebaceous glands. It acts as a barrier between your skin and the world, shielding it from dirt, pollutants, dead skin cells, and other common enemies to the safety of your skin. However, the overproduction of Sebum can lead to the trapping in these same enemies into the skin and pores, thus becoming acne.

Not to fear, though—our hero CBD oil is here!

A 2014 study examined the interaction between cannabidiol and human sebocytes (the cells which create sebum) and found that CBD oil prevented these cells from overproducing the acne-causing oily secretion.3

Another study found cannabidiol’s anti-inflammatory properties prevented the activation of acne causing agents like cytokines, ultimately concluding that CBD oil may be an efficient an effective treatment of acne.4

Heart Health

Studies have suggested that CBD oil may be able to lower blood pressure and keep it lowered.

High blood pressure is linked to numerous health conditions, heart disease being just one of them. In a 2017 study, nine healthy men were given a dose of 600mg of CBD oil. Researchers observed a reduction in resting blood pressure compared to a placebo. On top of that, when administered a stress test designed to increase blood pressure, participants who had ingested the single dose of CBD oil exhibited a smaller increase in blood pressure than normal.6

Neuroprotection

CBD as a treatment for neurological disorders, like epilepsy and multiple sclerosis (MS), are well studied at this point. Fun fact: Epidiolex an epilepsy medication, is one of the first CBD product in the United States to be approved by the FDA as a prescription drug! But what about its efficacy in treating other neurological disorders, like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, for example?

Research suggests potential benefits here as well. One study suggested CBD oil may be effective in improving quality of sleep for those with Parkinson’s.  Another study examined mice with a genetic predisposal to Alzheimer’s. They found that doses of CBD helped prevent cognitive decline.8

Remember, these are just a few of the multitude of uses CBD oil offers. Research has already covered a lot of ground and has many new studies already underway. You know the saying, “there’s an app for that”? If CBD oil had a catch phrase, it would be “there’s a study for that.”

Suffice to say: the future looks promising.

Could CBD Be A Great Alternative Option When It comes to inflammation

In this day and age, people are looking for alternatives to commercial medicines and using them to control inflammation and discomfort. Especially focusing on joint support, as it is a daily occurrence in many people’s lives.

People are looking to control inflammation in old age, after an injury, or even after certain surgeries.

There may be a solution!

Cannabidiol (CBD) may offer a great way of managing inflammation within the body.1 Let’s find out more about this compound and how it can be used.

What is CBD?

CBD is a compound that exists in the cannabis plant. It is extracted and added into a carrier oil like coconut oil or palm oil.

It is offered in many different potencies, which people use depending on their needs. CBD has been reported to have many beneficial properties that tackle psychological issues, mood disorders, joint support, and, of course, inflammation.2

How CBD responds to inflammation in the body

It is essential to know how the CBD compound functions in the body. Firstly, it is necessary to understand that CBD is not the same as THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is psychoactive and tends to produce a ‘buzz’ like feeling, while CBD has a calming effect that is not the same.

The CBD compound enters the body and reacts with your pre-existing Endocannabinoid receptors, which are present within the Endocannabinoid system (ECS). Endocannabinoid receptors may respond to CBD when it enters the bloodstream or when applied topically to the skin.

The ECS helps to regulate many things in the body, which includes the immune system, sleep, and more importantly, discomfort, which is why CBD may be a useful tool to cope with inflammation.

How to use CBD for inflammation?

There are multiple ways CBD may be used for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is important to be slighlty cautious about dosages and the type you use. There are CBD oils, topical creams, edibles, and a lot more.

Usually, people use topical CBD oils and creams for inflammation. Using topical creams allows one to rub the formula on the affected area and gradually let the compound to sink in. This way, it can react with your endocannabinoid receptors just below the epidermis.3

There are also edible CBD oils, which are much more potent and can work faster than topical ones as they get absorbed into the bloodstream. People have started to use CBD oils in their daily food, tea, and coffee as well.

What kind of inflammation could CBD help relieve?

Many kinds of inflammation can occur within the human body. Some might be a result of an injury, while others have an on-going occurrence in old age. However, CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties may aid in managing mild to moderate cases.4

Here are a few cases that CBD may help relieve inflammation or discomfort:

Arthritis

Arthritis is when a person’s joints are inflamed and start to cause them discomfort while moving. This movement may be as simple as clenching your fist or walking. It is a terrible condition to live with and may struggle with it every day.

A 2016 study done with CBD on rats showed a lot of promising data. Researchers used CBD gel on rats for four days, with the dosages varying between 0.6, 3.2, 6.2, or 62.3 milligrams each day.

The results showed a significant change. There was reduced inflammation in the joints and the discomfort the rats experienced. The researchers also noted for side effects, but there were none.

Rats with an ideal dose did better on the discomfort scale as compared to those who received less. This conclusion means more does not always mean better; it should be just right, adjusted according to your age and weight.

Migraines

One of the most common discomforts people experience is migraines. A migraine is when one specific side of your head starts aching, and the strain can end up making someone nauseous and inevitably throwing up.

While studies done on CBD and migraine are limited, some data shows how it can help manage such headaches.

2017 study done by the Congress of the European Academy of Neurology in Amsterdam indicates that CBD and THC may help cope with migraine discomfort. It makes it a less intense experience for people experiencing a migraine.

Volunteer test subjects who regularly experience migraines were administered a 200mg dose of 19% CBD. The results were that acute discomfort dropped by a whopping 55%.

When the daily dose was 200mg, the reported migraine attacks fell by 40.4%. This research shows how CBD may be more effective than Amitriptyline and tricyclic antidepressants, which only reduced the occurrence of migraines by 40.1%.

Could CBD be the best option for you?

CBD has anti-inflammatory properties. It does not have ‘addictive’ qualities, and people can use it in the long term as well.5 Many pain-relieving opioids and drugs tend to form a dependency and drastic side effects like mood disorders and more.

Though side effects are not often reported, it is important to remain cautious of possible CBD side effects as well.6 Some people may experience dizziness, fatigue, or diarrhea if they are new to the compound. This also may be your body adjusting to CBD.

It is recommended that you consult your local physician before starting to take CBD and keep a strict check for any reactions during the first few days that you take it.

Pure CBD Oil Traits

There is a high possibility that you have heard of cannabidiol (CBD) and are potentially curious about it. This is not an uncommon subject to be curious about. Why, you may ask? Because it is an up-and-coming item that has been around for many, many years and is just now getting the light it deserves. There is so much going on in the world of holistic health that you may have stopped to think “what even IS CBD?” We here at Panacea Life Sciences are dedicated to give you the most up-to-date information on the subjects surrounding CBD. This includes pure CBD oil. What is it? How do you look for it? What are the benefits and traits that you should look for while looking at CBD? This article will attempt to answer all of these questions and give our readers a bit more insight into CBD and beyond. First, let us start with the basics.

What is CBD? Will it get me high?

CBD is found in the Cannabis sativa plant. It is what we call a cannabinoid. There are 113 known cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD is just one of them. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the other well-known cannabinoid. This is because THC has an inebriating effect on those who use it. This cannabinoid is a bit more popular with researchers because of this effect it has. The biggest misconception is that because THC and CBD are found in the same plant that they produce the same effects in the body. This is simply not the case.  CBD has no inebriating effects whatsoever and it can be found with little to no traces of CBD.

In 2018 the United States legalized the growth and selling of the hemp plant with this bill titled the Farm Bill. Wait, the hemp plant? Yes, the hemp plant. This plant is a variation of the Cannabis sativa plant. It contains high amounts of CBD and low amounts of THC (less or at 0.3% to be exact). Hemp is federally legal everywhere in the U.S. The marijuana plant, however, is a different story. Marijuana is also a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant. This one in particular has very high amounts of THC and therefore gets users ‘high’ or that feeling of euphoria. Because of this effect it is not legal in all of the states, but it is legal in a handful for recreational as well as medical purposes. So, it is important to know the laws in your state before you purchase a product that contains THC. But, to put it simply, CBD cannot get you high.

What is CBD oil?

So, what is an CBD oil? A CBD oil or as many calls it a CBD tincture, is a type of carrier oil with added CBD. Once the CBD is added to the oil it is then tested and packaged for your use. Generally, CBD oil is put into a dropper. The easiest and most recommended way to use the dropper/CBD oil is to place it under the tongue and from there it is absorbed into the bloodstream. This is one of the fastest ways to get CBD into your system. There are multiple types of carrier oils: coconut oil, olive oil, grape seed oil, avocado oil, argan oil, etc. These are just some of the oils that can be used along with CBD to create a CBD oil or tincture. But what makes a pure CBD oil? Well, that depends on what you mean by “pure.” Pure as in pure CBD or pure as in an oil without any additives? Let us stick with pure CBD oil, in general.

Pure CBD oil: To understand what a pure CBD oil is we need to understand the different types of CBD there are. Isolate, full spectrum and broad spectrum.

Isolate: If you are looking for one cannabinoid and one cannabinoid only, this is could be your choice. A CBD isolate is CBD and CBD only. It has been isolated or purified from all of the other cannabinoids. In terms of CBD being a “pure” CBD, this is it. There is nothing else to interfere with the potential benefits of a CBD.

Full spectrum: This type of CBD contains all of the cannabinoids present in the Cannabis sativa plant. This includes the legal 0.3% of THC that is able to be in products marked as CBD. This gives you the benefits of CBD and all of the other cannabinoids.

Broad spectrum: Broad spectrum is very similar to full spectrum besides the THC part. This contains all the cannabinoids minus the THC. So, if you are worried about that small percent of THC (which you should not be) you can choose this type of CBD.

These are important to note as you continue your CBD journey. Make sure to try out all the options that you are interested in so that you may get the perfect type of CBD for you.

This may not be on your top priority list when it comes to CBD, but it should be on the list of the company you are looking at to purchase CBD from. Making sure that the company has a correct reputation and that shows which process it uses is of high importance. Keep that in mind as you look for a CBD company.

Why use CBD then?

So, why should one use CBD? Now that you know how to find the right CBD for you, what are the reasons that you should use CBD?

CBD products to use

Now that you know why people use CBD. What are the types of CBD that they chose to use? Here is a list (besides the tinctures/oils that we have already explained):

Where do I get CBD?

There are many types of CBD that are available, but, where do you get them? Can you buy them online? What about in the store? The answer is yes! There are several stores and online locations where you can purchase your CBD from. It is important to look at reviews on products and companies that you may be interested in. Companies should explain their extraction process, testing process and give a full ingredient list to be a company that you would deem worthy of getting CBD from. If you are purchasing from a dispensaries that has legalized marijuana make sure that the CBD you are getting has the correct amount of CBD you are looking for as well as the correct amount of THC (if any). As dispensaries often gear toward THC forward products.

Now what? Pure CBD Traits.

We have given you so much information in this article that you must be a CBD expert now. CBD and your Pain Management Regimen

There are many different ways that people have come up with managing discomfort. Some are over the counter medications; others are more holistic. More holistic approaches have become more popular in the current time. This is a positive approach as there can be negative repercussions to some discomfort regimens.

Now, you must be thinking, what does this have to do with CBD (or, as it is also known as, cannabidiol)? There have been people who have described adding CBD into their discomfort management regimens and the positive effects it may have. So, what can CBD do for your discomfort? Read on to find out.

First: What is CBD?

To understand how CBD can potentially assist you day-to-day we must first understand what it is and what it is not.

CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis sativa plant comes in various types. Hemp is one of them. As of 2018, the hemp plant is legal to grow and sell throughout the United States. This was deemed federally legal by the Farm Bill. This is because the hemp plant has high amounts of CBD while it has low amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

THC is the component of the Cannabis sativa plant that gives users a ‘high’ feeling or a type of inebriation. This component is not legal in all states. However, it is legal in a few for medicinal and recreational uses. CBD does not have the inebriating effect like THC. Hemp contains less than 0.3% of THC and is not enough to get users ‘high’. Marijuana is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant that contains high amounts of THC. These two cannabinoids are often found together but can be separated from one another. CBD has been described to give holistic health benefits.

So, what can CBD do to assist discomfort?

Pain + CBD

Does CBD have discomfort relief properties? It is quite possible. There is still much research to be done around and about CBD, but here are a few that we have found. First, we here at Panacea Life Sciences conducted our own research on the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD. We had pet owners (specifically canines) give their furry friends CBD who had age-related movement issues. After giving “a man’s best friend” CBD pet owners expressed that their animals had increased mobility. This means that the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD must have worked as the dogs felt more comfortable to move about. You can read more about what we found here.

In this study CBD spray and a placebo were evaluated in 300 patients suffering from peripheral neuropathy.  Those who were given a placebo did not get the same results of those who were given the CBD spray. They concluded that those who were given the CBD had improved sleep quality, improvements in discomfort and the severity of their conditions were lowered.

Other uses of CBD

Now that you know that managing discomfort may be a good use of CBD, perhaps you are wondering what other uses of CBD there are. Here are a few:

CBD products

What CBD products are available now? It is important to note that there are several types of CBD products available, but they are not all created equal. It is important to read labels and research how retailers are obtaining and creating these products. Here is a list of some that Panacea Life Sciences has available:

Discomfort and CBD

Perhaps after reading this article you have decided to add CBD into your discomfort managing regimen or maybe you have decided to use it for a different purpose. Either way we hope that we have helped you gain a better understanding and more confidence surrounding the subject. What are CBD Oil Effects? Is it Safe?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of 113 naturally occurring cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol, typically referred to as THC, cannabidiol is not psychoactive, meaning it does not give you the effects or “high” associated with THC. This crucial distinction along with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill essentially gave permission to farmers, manufacturers, researchers, and, as of late, mainstream culture to fully embrace CBD in all its boundless glory.

CBD Oil

CBD oil is just one of many forms of cannabidiol, but it is a stellar option that comes with unique perks and a certain amount of space for creativity when it comes to usage. Whether it be directly ingesting orally, applying topically, elevating your morning coffee…the possibilities stretch as far and wide as the fields on which this little miracle compound grows.

Effects

As the public sphere and the scientific world continue to ponder the possible uses of CBD, an increasingly significant number of sources are suggesting CBD oil can be used to alleviate a plethora of ailments. A swift web search and one can find studies supporting claims of CBD oil’s many uses. It may be helpful to counteract or reduce symptoms associated with migraines, headaches, chronic pain, inflammation, seizures, chemotherapy related discomfort, and acne. These possible effects and their corresponding studies can be read about in length on our Cannabinoid Blog.

But what about the actual immediate effects of a CBD oil, outside the possible health benefits?

It is now commonplace to see CBD marketed as an alternative treatment or supplement for stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. This particular usage makes sense when looking at the more immediate effects typically associated with CBD. Specifically, users most commonly report a relaxing, calming effect, as well as improved mood. Naturally, the effects depend on the type of CBD, amount you use, method of ingestion and other mitigating factors. These effects can be explained by the actual processes that take place upon ingesting cannabidiol.

Allow us to break it down:

While THC activates CB1 receptors, CBD inhibits activity. As well, CBD binds to over 70 other target sites throughout the body, thus activating multiple pathways at once, leading to a variety of therapeutic effects.

Is It Safe?

We’re so glad you asked! It is extremely important to note that, aside from Epidiolex and a few other FDA-approved products, CBD is not a medication. This means that the FDA has not approved CBD for the treatment, diagnosis, or prevention of disease other than epilepsy, nausea, and pain for MS patients experiencing muscle spasticity.  The regulations on manufacturing CBD products as food or dietary supplements by the FDA have not be established, so consumers cannot be 100% certain whether they are getting exactly what is on the label or not. Furthermore, like anything you ingest or apply to your body, there is the slight risk of unwanted side effects. Among these are nausea, fatigue, irritability and the possibility of a blood-thinning effect or an unintentional rise in levels of other medications in the blood when taking high quantities of CBD

As always, it is important to speak with a medical professional when considering introducing CBD into your routine in order assure that you’re proceeding in the safest and most effective manner possible.
