THC-free strains of CBD

As we head further into this new decade, there is one trend that seems like it is going to be pretty prevalent: the presence of cannabidiol (CBD) just about everywhere. If you have heard of CBD before, you have probably also seen it paired with another big word that gets broken down into an acronym, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). There are plenty of people who actively avoid THC and for some good reasons.

Let’s talk about what those reasons are and how to find types of CBD that are free of THC.

Let’s define CBD

If you are reading this article it is likely that you are already at least a little familiar with what CBD is. But in case you are completely new to this, we are going to go over the basics.

Cannabis plants, including hemp and marijuana, have a specific kind of chemical component known as cannabinoids. This is a diverse class of components , consisting of over 113 different ones. CBD is one of these cannabinoids.

It can be found in both hemp and marijuana. However, CBD and THC help define the differences between these two cannabis plants. Marijuana is bred to have high amounts of THC and low amounts of CBD. Hemp, as you may have guessed, is the opposite. It is bred to have low amounts of THC and high levels of CBD. As a result, most CBD manufacturers use hemp to extract the cannabinoid rather than hemp.

That difference between hemp and marijuana has also had a hand in the legalization of CBD products. In late 2018 hemp and hemp-derived products were officially legalized in the United States. Part of the reason for the legalization of hemp is that it has low levels of THC (the THC level is legally required to be less than 0.3%). Meanwhile, marijuana is still federally illegal due to its high THC concentration.

One really important fact about CBD that is always good to remember is that it is not psychoactive. That means it does not create the intoxication that is usually referred to as a “high.” The most that it may affect your mental state is that it may help you achieve a greater sense of calm. However, it should not have any negative impact on your cognitive abilities.

What about THC?

Now that we have spent some time going over CBD, let’s get into more detail about THC.

As you may have inferred from the above section, THC is a cannabinoid like CBD. However, they are still very different. Unlike CBD, THC is psychoactive. It does create a high. In fact, it is the cannabinoid that is responsible for the high that is so commonly associated with cannabis. These psychoactive properties are the reason why marijuana and THC are so tightly restricted.

Because of this lack of legality and the intoxication that comes with using THC, there are many people who want to avoid it. However, that does not mean that they do not want to use cannabis products. It also does not mean that they cannot use these products. But what options do they have?

What kind of CBD is THC free?

When CBD is extracted from hemp it is rarely alone. Usually other cannabinoids and components come out of the plant with the CBD, including THC. So, what kinds of CBD have THC and what kinds do not?

Full-spectrum

If you are looking to avoid THC, it is probably best to start with what kind of CBD you should try to avoid. Full-spectrum CBD has THC in it. As mentioned above, the THC level cannot be more than 0.3%, which is not enough to create a high in anyone. However, it may be enough to show up on a drug test. This kind of CBD also contains any of the other components and cannabinoids that may come with the CBD during the extraction.

Broad-spectrum

This strain of CBD is similar to full-spectrum, but if you are trying to stay away from CBD, you do not need to worry about broad-spectrum products. Like full-spectrum it has a majority of the cannabinoids and components that are extracted with the CBD. The one exception is that the THC is taken out of the extract. Broad-spectrum allows for a stronger effect, caused by the presence of the other cannabinoids, without the THC.

CBD isolate

It is likely that you have already guessed by the name what exactly CBD isolate is. It is CBD that has been completely isolated. There are no other components or cannabinoids in this extract. Everything, except the CBD, has been completely filtered out. This strain of CBD is often reported to not be as strong as the other strains. However, many also say that it provides a clearer, purer CBD experience.

How much CBD is too much?

This is a very prudent question to ask, as CBD does have some side effects that are usually associated with taking too much. They tend to be things like changes in appetite and gastrointestinal upset. While these side effects do not appear to be all that serious, they are still not fun to deal with and you probably will want to avoid them.

The best way to do that is by starting the amount you take small. Then, once you know how that amount sits with you, you can try taking a little bit more. This may take days or even weeks to figure out what exactly is the right amount for you. It is also important to remember that certain CBD products take longer than others to start working. For example, edibles take longer than tinctures. Allow for the appropriate amount of time to pass before upping the amount you take.

If you want to give CBD a try, but the possibility of THC being in the product has been holding you back, there is no need to worry about it. As long as you look for CBD products that are made with broad-spectrum CBD or CBD isolate, there should be no THC in them whatsoever. There are CBD products out there for just about everyone. Feel free to explore and find what is the best product for you. Learn more about pain management strains of CBD here.

Martin-Bell syndrome and CBD

Those who have or have children with Martin-Bell syndrome know that it can be a bit of a struggle. Many who deal with this condition are always looking for something that may be able to provide some help. Recently, research has been pointing to an unexpected place.

Certain studies have been suggesting that cannabidiol (CBD) could provide those with Martin-Bell syndrome with some relief in specific parts of their lives.

What is Martin-Bell syndrome?

Martin-Bell syndrome is a recessive genetic condition also known as Fragile X syndrome. This condition occurs when there is a defect on the X chromosome creating a life-long condition.  Martin-Bell syndrome is more common in boys than girls and is characterized by developmental delays, autism, hyperactivity and anxiety.

CBD may not be able to help with some of these symptoms, but research does suggest that it may be able to help with hyperactivity and anxiety.

What is up with CBD?

CBD is a chemical compound in Cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana. It is one of over 113 of a specific class of chemical compounds called cannabinoids. The full extent of how cannabinoid effects in the body are still not known and are being studies by researchers.  Cannabis has other compounds, terpenes, that effect the smell and taste of the cannabis plant that have mild effects on users. Let’s go over what those potential effects are.

CBD is known for having a calming effect. As a result, many studies have been done on it looking at how CBD interacts with anxiety. For example, this study found that CBD was greatly able to help with some test subjects that have generalized social anxiety disorder. That is just one example of the many studies that have looked at this and found similar results.

Because of its calming effects, studies have also looked at how CBD might affect hyperactivity. One of these studies tested CBD on hyperactive rats. The researchers found that CBD was able to greatly calm the rats with little to no effect on their social interactions. This means that CBD may be able to help keep hyperactivity in check without you or your child losing personality.

What are the options with CBD?

There are many options out there for using CBD. It is found in several different products. It may take some time to find the right product for you or your child. To help you start, we will go over some of the options available.

Kinds of CBD

While most CBD extracts come from hemp, there are different kinds of the extract that you can find. There are three different kinds to be exact: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and CBD isolate. These are separated by what else is in the extract beside the CBD. Full-spectrum has the most other compounds and cannabinoids. This is a version of CBD that not everyone wants as it has a small amount of THC (it is only 0.3%), but not enough to get anyone high. However, it is still enough for many to want to avoid it. Broad-spectrum is similar to full-spectrum, the difference is that is does not have THC. CBD isolate is just CBD. There are no other compounds or cannabinoids in the extract with the CBD.

Topicals

This is a label that covers a few different CBD products. It includes things like lotions and cremes. They are products where the CBD is rubbed into the skin. They are better for more localized use, as the CBD does not move much beyond where it is placed. If you are looking for a more overall effect, you may want to try an oral product.

Oils and tinctures

These are the more traditional route for CBD products. They are CBD extract that have been mixed in a carrier oil like palm oil. You have a few options for taking these. You can mix them in with your or your child’s favorite food or drink. Or you can place a few drops under your tongue. Eating or drinking something with an oil or a tincture mixed in will take a little while to start working. Putting drops under your tongue will start working even faster.

Capsules and tablets

You have likely guessed what these are. They are pill-like products, often in the form of soft gels or tablets. Soft gel capsules are good products because they are easier to swallow than other capsules and tend to start working quickly. However, if you or your child have a hard time swallowing pills capsules may not be the route to take. Tablets on the other hand, do not necessarily require swallowing. Many of them are a melt-in-your-mouth type product.

Edibles

These are often a good option for kids. They are easy to take and taste good. Other CBD products may have a slight Cannabis flavor to them. If your child is a picky eater, CBD edibles may be the way to go. They come in many different forms. You can find CBD candies, CBD juices and, even, CBD pasta.

Of course, these are just a few general examples. You may want to look around and see what you can find. There may be the perfect product out there for you or your child that was not covered here.

What side effects are there?

This is something that should be asked about anything that you may add to your daily routine. However, it is not as much of worry with CBD.

There are side effects associated with it, however, they do not appear to be life-threatening. They tend to include things like nausea and mild dizziness. They are normally associated with taking too much. That is why it is so important to be sure to figure out the right amount of CBD for you.

Martin-Bell syndrome may make life difficult for not just those who struggle with it, but also for those who love them. Fortunately, there are many resources out there to help. One of these that may be a good option is CBD. As more research advances, Panacea Life Sciences hopes to understand more about how CBD could help. If you or a loved one are suffering from Fragile X Syndrome, please contact Panacea Life Sciences, Inc. for a week’s supply of CBD and to participate in our initial efficacy study.

Would CBD lip balm help your lips?

It is easy to find cannabidiol (CBD) products these days. There are CBD foods, drinks, lotions, and bubble baths. So, it should not be all that surprising to learn that there are also CBD lip balms. The question is, how worth it are they? Do they hydrate your lips? Let’s talk about it.

Explaining what CBD is

Before we can really get into what CBD lip balms may be able to do, we need to talk about what CBD even is.

CBD is a chemical component  known as a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids are component  found in Cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana. There are over 113 different cannabinoids found in the plants. Some have an effect on people. For example, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is well-known for its effect on people.

THC is psychoactive. That means that it creates the high that is some commonly associated with Cannabis plants. CBD does have an effect on people, as well. However, it is not psychoactive. It does not make people high. It may help create a greater sense of calm in the users.

CBD is usually extracted from hemp rather than marijuana. One reason for this is that hemp is bred to have more CBD than THC in it. Marijuana has the opposite going on, it is bred to have more THC. The higher levels of CBD make it easier to extract it from hemp rather than from marijuana. Another reason is because industrial hemp is legal in the United States. Marijuana, on the other hand, is still federally illegal.

There are different kinds of CBD extract. They are CBD isolate, broad-spectrum and full-spectrum. Those names mean how many other cannabinoids and components are in extract with the CBD. CBD isolate is the CBD on its own. There are no other components or cannabinoids in the extract. Full-spectrum is the opposite. All of the other components and cannabinoids that may come out with the CBD in the extraction process are kept in this version. This includes THC; however, it is only 0.3%, which is not enough to cause a high. Broad-spectrum is similar to full-spectrum, but with one major exception. There is no THC in broad-spectrum CBD. The appeal of full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD is that they may be able to provide what is known as the entourage effect. This is when components work together to create a stronger effect. CBD isolate may not be as strong of an effect, but it does not have the component  potentially muddling the CBD effect.

How does it work with lip balm?

There have been a lot of studies looking at the potential benefits that CBD may be able to provide. Many of the results have been promising and exciting. There are even some that would suggest that CBD lip balm could be very helpful for chapped lips.

For example, chapped lips can often be inflamed. Several studies have looked at how CBD effects inflammation. This study, for example, looked at CBD (among other cannabinoids) to see what kind of effect they may have on acute inflammation. The researchers found that CBD was greatly able to help with the inflammation.

Many studies have wanted to look at how CBD may be able to help with skin health. For instance, this study wanted to understand how the Endocannabinoid System (the series of receptors that CBD and other cannabinoids interact with) effects the skin. The researchers found that the Endocannabinoid System has a hand in many skin conditions. This could mean that CBD may be able to help with skin health.

Most CBD lip balms have other moisturizing ingredients in them along with the CBD. These may be things like shea butter and coconut oil. That means that you will not only have the chance to help with inflammation, but you will also be able to hydrate your lips.

How to find good CBD lip balm?

When buying something like a CBD product, it is a good idea to be sure that you are getting a high-quality product. But how exactly how do you do that?

The first thing to start with is reviews. It is best to read several reviews about the company and the product you are interested in to see what others think about them. You should look at reviews both on the manufacturer’s site and on third party sites. This is to ensure that there is not any bias within them.

The manufacturers should also be transparent about their extraction processes. If they are not open about it, they may not be the most trustworthy source. They should have a third party test the quality of their extract. Using a third party to test their products helps make sure that there is not any bias in the testing process.

Another thing to pay attention to is price. CBD products tend to be a bit more expensive than their non-CBD counterparts. However, there are some CBD manufacturers that charge a large amount just because they can. This does not mean that their product is actually worth its price tag. On the other hand, some CBD products are very cheap. If their price tag seems too good to be true, it likely is. Their product may not be very good. Your best bet is to find something with a price that is a little bit more middle of the road.

As our understanding of CBD grows, so will our understanding of how it may be able to benefit us. As of right now, we do not fully know how much CBD lip balm may be able to help lips. We do, however, have a fair understanding of some of the benefits it could provide.

There is a lot to know about CBD. It may even seem a little bit overwhelming. But there is no need to worry because you are on the right site. FDA Cracks Down on CBD and Coronavirus Claims

The world has experienced a very sudden and even startling change. The virus COVID-19 (also known as the Coronavirus) has brought many things to a grinding halt as people self-isolate and practice social distancing. It has led to many questions that desperately need answering.

Who is the FDA?

One question that has been floating around is whether or not cannabidiol (CBD) is a good safeguard against the virus. There are those who swear up and down that it is. They are, unfortunately, misled. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently come out to say definitively that CBD will not stop the Coronavirus. Let’s talk about what exactly the FDA said and what it means.

You have likely heard of Cannabis and its two derivative plants hemp and marijuana. But did you know that Cannabis is full of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids? There are over 113 different cannabinoids in Cannabis plants. CBD is one of these. While it has become more well-known over the last few years, it is not as famous as another cannabinoid.

Safety concerns of CBD and THC

This more famous cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is famous because of the effect that it has on people. THC is psychoactive. That means that it creates the high that is often associated with Cannabis. CBD and THC get lumped together a lot because they are both cannabinoids, but they are very different. The big difference between them is that unlike THC, CBD does not create a high. It is not psychoactive. CBD may help boost your sense of calm, but that is about it.

CBD is usually extracted from hemp rather than marijuana. One of the main reasons for this is that hemp is bred to have more CBD than THC. Marijuana not only has much less CBD, it also has high levels of THC, which something most CBD manufacturers try to avoid. Hemp makes the extraction process much easier for manufacturers.

Another reason why CBD manufacturers usually extract the cannabinoid from hemp rather than marijuana has to do with issues of legality. As of December of 2018, industrial hemp is legal in the United States (we have an article going into more detail about the bill that legalized it here). Meanwhile, marijuana is still federally illegal. Its level of legality does vary from state to state, but until it is legalized across the board, it is unlikely that any CBD manufacturers will use marijuana to make their CBD products.

There are three different kinds of CBD extract that may be used to make a CBD product. They are full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate. Their names refer to what other cannabinoids and compounds are found in the extract with the CBD. Full-spectrum includes pretty much all of it. It has most of the other cannabinoids and compounds that come with the CBD in the extraction process, including THC (though it is less than 0.3%). Broad-spectrum is similar to full-spectrum with one important distinction; it does not have any THC. It has many of the other compounds and cannabinoids, but no THC. CBD isolate is exactly what you have probably guess already, it is just CBD. There are no other cannabinoids or compounds, as the CBD has been completely isolated. You can find just about any CBD product in which ever kind of extract you prefer.

Will it stop Coronavirus?

There is a lot of worry out there because of the Coronavirus. So, it is understandable that people are turning to wherever they think they may find a solution. CBD may be able to help with so many different issues, it is not surprising that many may think that it could help with COVID-19. However, that is not the case.

Recently the FDA sent a letter warning an online CBD retailer that they were claiming that CBD may help with COVID-19, despite the fact that this claim has no real scientific evidence to back it up. Since the legalization of hemp and the rise of the CBD industry, the FDA has been cracking down on unsupported claims about the cannabinoid. They are especially on top of it right now, as false claims about CBD could be more dangerous than ever.

The FDA also sent warnings to other retailers and organizations for the fraudulent claims they were making in association with COVID-19. The first went to a church that was selling chlorine dioxide products as both a treatment and a preventative measure against the Coronavirus. These products do not have any evidence backing up the potential benefits of chlorine dioxide and they have many potential dangers. A holistic pet store was warned as well, as they were publishing treatments and preventative measures for people and pets that were not proven in any way.

CBD does appear to have some antimicrobial properties. However, this area of study is still vastly incomplete. There is a lot about these properties that still need to be understood. The most that we can say right now is that it may help with hand sanitizer. That is, it may be able to help give a boost to products that already sanitize. On its own, CBD will not stop you from getting sick.

But what exactly do people use CBD for anyway?

What is CBD used for?

This question is interesting to answer because CBD is used for many different things. Recent years have seen an upswing in studies on CBD. These studies have found a number of different things. Many of them have suggested that CBD may be able to help with a number of different issues and conditions. Let’s talk about what some of those are.

One of the main uses for CBD is to help regulate stress and calm nerves. There have been enough studies on this alone to talk about it for quite some time. Instead we will go over just three of these studies. To start with, this study used animal models to test what sort of effect CBD would have on the animals’ states of mind. The researchers found that the cannabinoid was able to help boost the mood and calm the stress of the test subjects. Another study tested CBD’s effects on people with Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder about to engage in public speaking. The researchers concluded that the test subjects who were given CBD were much calmer when facing the anxiety-inducing task. The last study we are going to look at was testing not just anxiety disorders, but those related to substance abuse as well. CBD, the researchers found, was able to help calm the extreme emotions that often come with these disorders.

Another very common area of study for researchers interested in CBD, is the cannabinoid’s effect on inflammation. One of the studies that have looked at this focused on the inflammation caused by oxidative stress, which contributes to a number of different conditions like arthritis and diabetes. The researchers concluded that CBD was able to reduce inflammation by quite a bit. Another study wanted to see how CBD interacted with inflammation caused by acute pancreatitis in mice. The researchers found that CBD helped reduce the serious inflammation that was caused by the pancreatitis. Finally, this study looked at CBD and intestinal inflammation in mice. The researchers found that the inflammation went down significantly in the mice given the CBD.

One of the bigger areas of study done on CBD is on the cannabinoid’s effect on epilepsy. One study looked at how CBD may be able to reduce seizures both in vitro and in vivo. The researchers concluded that, with the right concentration of the cannabinoid, CBD was able to greatly reduce seizures in both groups. Another study was testing a prototype of an anti-epilepsy what had CBD as its main ingredient. The researchers found that CBD was effective in reducing the number of seizures in the test subjects. Many other studies along these lines have been conducted. So many, in fact, that they led to the development of the first CBD-based medication to be approved by the FDA. It is an epilepsy seizure called Epidiolex.

These are just brief examples of the many uses that CBD may have. But what does CBD have to do with COVID-19?

Different kinds of CBD products

So, CBD will not keep you from getting COVID-19. But clearly there are other benefits the cannabinoid may offer you. If any of those potential benefits discussed above caught your eye, you may be wondering how you can take CBD. Well, let’s go over what options are out there.

Tinctures and oils

CBD oils and tinctures are often considered a more traditional way to take CBD. These are CBD extract that has been mixed with a carrier oil, like palm oil, and other essential oils. You take them by either mixing them in with food or a drink or by placing a drop directly under your tongue. The sublingual method is a faster way to get the CBD working than by mixing it in with something you eat. This is because the skin under your tongue is thin, allowing the CBD to absorb into the system more quickly. You can learn more about where to find CBD oils and pills here.

Capsules and tablets

These CBD products are what they sound like. They are soft gel capsules and tablets that have been made with CBD. How you take them and how quickly they start working depends on which one you take. Capsules you just swallow whole like a pill. It takes a little while to start working as the capsule needs to breakdown before it can start. CBD tablets, on the other hand, tend to be designed to be sublingual. You place one under you tongue and allow it to dissolve. Like the tinctures and oils, this tends to be a bit faster because of the thin skin in that area.

Edibles

CBD edibles can come in the form of almost any food or drink. You can find CBD gummies, bread, coffee, or sparkling water. This is one of the easier ways to take CBD, as you just eat or drink however much you need. But it is also one of the slower ways. The food or drink and the CBD all need to digest before the cannabinoid can enter the system and start its work. Despite this fact, CBD edibles are one of the most popular CBD products out there. This is likely because they taste so good.

Topicals

This is a fairly broad category of CBD products. It includes lotions, cremes, salves, and, more recently, hand sanitizers. They are basically any CBD product that your rub on your skin rather than take orally. This is a good product if you are looking for a more localized effect from your CBD. While the oral CBD products are more likely to give you an overall effect, topicals are not likely to move much beyond where they are applied as they cannot enter the bloodstream. They work best when you use them often and liberally.

Back to our original question, will CBD stop the Coronavirus? The short (and very important) answer is, no, CBD will not stop COVID-19. CBD may be able to help calm your COVID-related stress. It may be able to give already bacteria killing hand sanitizer a boost. CBD may be able to help with a lot of things that you are dealing with right now, but it will not cure Coronavirus.

Despite the fact that CBD will not stop Coronavirus, it is obvious that it offers a lot of other potential benefits. If any of those benefits interest you, or if you have questions about CBD, you are on the right site. Here on the Panacea Life Sciences website we have articles covering just about everything to do with CBD. We also have a line of high-quality CBD products. What are safety concerns of THC and CBD?

One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is about safety. What are the safety concerns of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol)? It is a very valid question to ask as well. When you are taking in anything new from vitamins to new types of food, the subject of safety always arises, as it should.

We are here to discuss those safety concerns of THC and CBD as a whole today. However, we always recommend talking with your healthcare professional before starting any new regimen. While THC and CBD are completely different cannabinoids, they both come from the same plant, Cannabis sativa. Keep reading more about both of these cannabinoids below.

Cannabinoids and safety

Before we begin the overview of the safety concerns of THC and CBD, it is important to note two things. The first is that THC and CBD are two different types of cannabinoids that come from the Cannabis sativa plant. While they do share some characteristics, the effects they have on the body are completely different. The main difference is that THC has a psychoactive effect, meaning it will get you high. While CBD is non-psychoactive, and no mind-altering effects will be felt.

Secondly, you cannot overdose on THC or CBD. There has never been a reported death directly from the Cannabis sativa plant. In fact, when the Chief Administrative Law Judge at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Francis L. Young, ruled on marijuana rescheduling in 1988, he stated, “in order to induce death, a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response.” This, of course, would be physically impossible. Now that those concerns are out of the way, let’s move on!

Safety Concerns of THC

While THC is considered to be safe with few side effects, there are some causes for concern. The main concern is damage to the lungs caused by smoking marijuana. If you remove the smoking aspect altogether and use edibles, for example, there are still some causes for concern. First of all, you should be over the age of 21 before you use ingest any sort of THC recreationally. Studies have shown that marijuana can affect brain development in children and teenagers. Therefore, THC should only be consumed if you are over the age of 21.

Chronic or heavy users are more susceptible to possible side effects. In a 2013 study, a chronic user was defined as someone who at least smoked one marijuana cigarette (joint) daily. The study suggested that chronic THC use may result in problems with short-term memory, difficulty learning, and issues with attention. However, the study was inconclusive and stated more research needed to be done. There is no research suggesting that these effects are long-term for adults.

Safety Concerns of CBD

As discussed above, CBD comes from the Cannabis sativa plant and unlike THC, it is non-psychoactive; meaning it will not get you high. CBD is usually produced in the form of an oil but has also been made into other products like topicals, vape oil, edible products, capsules, and oil capsules. The main safety concern when it comes to CBD is vaping. We do not recommend vaping CBD at this time until more research is done on the effects. In general, smoking anything is not good for your body. Therefore, when ingesting CBD, we recommend using CBD oil, capsules, or edibles.

CBD is well tolerated by the body and rarely causes any serious side effects. Of those that have experienced them, the most common ones reported are dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, drowsiness and fatigue according to the Mayo Clinic. CBD may also interact with certain prescription medications such as blood thinners. Therefore, it is a good idea to talk to your healthcare professional before you begin any new health regimen. The Food and Drug Administration has approved several CBD-based medications to treat severe seizure disorders.

Safe ways to consume

There are very few safety concerns when it comes to THC and almost none when it comes to CBD. With either option, you should try to avoid smoking or vaping if at all possible. Instead, opt for oils, tinctures, edibles, or capsules. THC is psychoactive and therefore, will give you a “high” effect. Therefore, it is important to avoid driving or operating any heavy machinery. Chronic use of THC may also result in short-term problems with memory, attention span, and learning. If you do use THC, be sure that it is legal in your state, as it does vary.

CBD is well tolerated by the body and may offer several potential benefits such as anti-inflammatory effects and stress reduction. While side effects are rare, some CBD users have reported diarrhea, fatigue, dry mouth, and drowsiness. Overall, CBD is considered to be safe according to the World Health Organization’s 2017 report. There is no worry about overdosing or taking too much. However, for best results, follow the directions on the packaging of your product. You may find that you need to adjust your dosage up or down to get the desired effect that you are looking for. We recommend making small adjustments at a time to find the dose that works best for your body.

The safety concerns of THC and CBD are both minimal. They offer far more benefits to many people than they do any side effects. If you are worried about possible side effects, we recommend you talk with your healthcare professional.

Is CBD medication legal? Talking more on Epidiolex

It feels like cannabidiol (CBD) is in everything these days. There are CBD products available in stores in most US cities and FDA-approved medications like Epidiolex. But what about CBD medication? Are there medicines out there made with CBD? Are they even legal? Let’s answer those questions, plus a few more.

Starting with basics: what is CBD?

It is always best to start at the simplest part of something as involved as legal CBD medications. In this case, the simplest thing is defining what CBD actually is.

Cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana, have a chemical compound in them known as cannabinoids. These are the compounds that act on the human body. There are a lot of cannabinoids out there. In fact, researchers have found over 113 of them. CBD is one of these cannabinoids.

CBD is probably the second best-known cannabinoid. The most well-known one being tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Because they are both cannabinoids, these two are often considered the same, even interchangeable. However, it is important to know that that is not true. CBD and THC are very different compounds, despite both being cannabinoids.

The biggest, and arguably most important, difference is that THC is psychoactive, but CBD is not. This means that THC creates a high. It is the compound that causes the high that is so commonly associated with Cannabis. CBD, on the other hand, does not create a high. The closest it comes to having any sort of psychoactive effect is that it may help promote a greater sense of calm.

Medical researchers have been very interested in CBD and the kinds of effects that it may have on people. As a result, there have been many studies that have been done on the cannabinoid covering a number of different areas. For example, this study found that CBD was able to help reduce the rate of diabetes in non-obese mice. Another study found the cannabinoid has an ability to help boost moods and soothe anxiety. This study found that CBD was able to help reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, and the rate of cell death caused by hydrogen peroxide.

Is CBD legal?

It is understandable to wonder about this. After, CBD is extracted from Cannabis, which has a questionable legal status. But most CBD products are legal in the United States.

This is because of the 2018 Farm Bill. This is a bill that gets reviewed and passed every five years by the United States legislature. It effects all things agriculture in the country. This includes what kind of plants farmers are allowed to grow and sell. In 2018 the Farm Bill was passed, as usual, but this time had something a little bit different. It officially made industrial hemp legal for farmers to grow and sell.

The bill lays out what exactly defines “hemp” and helps make it clear how it is different from marijuana, which is still federally illegal. Hemp, according to 2018 Farm Bill, is defined as Cannabis with less than 0.3% THC content. Meanwhile, marijuana is Cannabis with more than 0.3% THC.

This effects the CBD industry because, while hemp has low levels of THC, it has high levels of CBD. As a result, CBD manufacturers usually extract CBD from hemp, rather than marijuana. So, the legalization of hemp means that CBD products are legal as long they are derived from hemp and have less than 0.3% THC content.

So, yes, CBD is legal.

Are CBD medications legal?

Just like wondering whether CBD is legal, being concerned about the legality of CBD medications is perfectly valid. After all, medical Cannabis is not federally legal, despite being legalized in many states.

As of right now, CBD medications are like just about any kind of medication. If the manufacturer wants to sell a medication, they need to go through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). The CDER tests the medications, not only to ensure that they do the job manufacturers claim that they do, but also to find out what kind of side effects may occur or any other information the public should know. The CDER also expects the manufacturers to do testing of their own. The manufacturers have to send in proof of their testing to show that their claims are accurate. Then if the CDER determines that the potential benefits of a medication outweigh the potential risks, then it is approved.

Above there are some studies listed, but those studies are just a few examples of the research constantly going on focused on the cannabinoid. There is still a lot of research that needs to be done on CBD before the FDA and other organizations are going to be willing to view it as completely safe. However, that does not mean that there are no FDA approved CBD medications. There are some that are still in the process of being approved.

What all of this means is that if a CBD medication has gone through the proper channels of approval, yes, it is legal. There is one particular CBD medication that is considered a big deal. It is Epidiolex. It was the first CBD medication to be approved by the FDA and offers some real help to those who need it.

What is Epidiolex and what does it do?

As mentioned above, researchers have dedicated a lot of time to studying the different potential benefits that CBD may offer people. We briefly went over some of those, but there is one area of CBD study that has led to the development of a CBD-based medication. This area of study is on the effect that CBD has on epileptic seizures.

One study wanted to look the potential antiseizure effects of CBD. The researchers tested using both invitro and vitro animal models. They simulated epileptic seizures in the test subjects then tried giving some of them CBD. The researchers found that the CBD was able to help with calming the seizures.

Another study was aimed to look specifically at the anti-convulsant effects that CBD may have, as convulsions are a common side effect of seizures. The researchers used animal models focusing on the temporal lobes and simulated seizures within them. The test subjects that were given the CBD saw few severe seizures.

Finally, this study compiled all of the research up to that point (in 2014) that had been done on CBD and epilepsy and analyzed what it could mean for the medical use of the cannabinoid. The researchers found that the studies so far were very positive towards the idea the CBD may be able to help keep seizures under control.

As you can see these studies are very promising and the ones above are only a few examples of the numerous studies out there. This area has been looked at so thoroughly that it is not surprising that an epilepsy medication has come from them. This medication is called Epidiolex. It has been designed to help keep seizures caused by epilepsy and Dravet syndrome under control. It was made for use by just about anyone with a few exceptions. For example, there have not been any tests on how it effects children under the age of two years. It is also not recommended for use by pregnant women.

Overall, Epidiolex does not have many negative side effects. However, there is warning that it could cause issues with the liver. People who use Epidiolex are warned to watch for signs of this. They generally include a change in appetite, nausea, and a yellowing of the eyes. Beyond that, Epidiolex appears to be a great option for those who struggle with epilepsy and Dravet syndrome.

How else can you take CBD?

As most CBD medications are still in the process of being approved by the FDA, there are many people who would like to take CBD but cannot be prescribe a CBD medication yet. So, what options do they have to take the cannabinoid?

They have plenty of options. CBD extract is easy to make into a number of different products. As a result, there are many products for those interested in taking CBD to choose from. Most of them are products you take orally, but there are also topicals. These are things like cremes and lotions. Basically, they are any CBD product that you rub on your skin. Topicals offer a more localized effect. That means that the CBD is not likely to affect much beyond the area that it is placed.

There are numerous oral CBD products. They range from oils to foods. They tend to be the preferred version of CBD as they are more likely to provide a more overall effect than topicals. However, they also have their disadvantages. For example, CBD oils and tinctures are a great way to take CBD, but some people find that despite the flavoring often included in the mixture, they still do not like the taste. Many either do not mind the flavor or do not notice it, because CBD tinctures and oils are very popular. If you are not aware, they are CBD extract that has been mixed with a carrier oil, like palm oil. You can either place the drops directly into your mouth or mix them with food or drink.

Other CBD oral products include capsules and tablets, and edibles. The capsules and tablets are similar to pills, but with some key differences. Soft gel capsules and more flexible and easier to swallow. They also tend to start working faster than regular pills. Tablets tend to be pills that dissolve in your mouth, negating the need to swallow them. This makes both of these options ideal for those who struggle with swallowing pills.

Edibles are exactly what they sound like. They are CBD products that you eat. There are CBD edibles in the form of most kinds of food. You can find CBD candies and CBD pasta. You can also find CBD drinks like soda and sparkling water. Edibles are very popular because they are easy to take and taste good, but they do have a disadvantage. They sometimes take a while to start working. This is because the food (or drink) needs to digest for the CBD to enter the system and start its work.

There are some potential side effects associated with CBD. They are things like gastrointestinal upset and fatigue. They are not overly serious, but they are not very fun to deal with. These side effects are normally associated with taking more CBD than your body can handle. So, to avoid them it is best to try and figure out what is the right amount of CBD for you. This process takes some time, as you need to start the amount of CBD low and see how it sits with you, gradually increasing the amount that you take. It also will not be the same for everyone because we all experience CBD a little differently. Some require more or less of the cannabinoid than others. Once you find the amount that gives you the effect that you are looking for without negative side effects, you can stop the experiment.

CBD medication is something that is still very new. As a result, there are not many out there. However, that does not mean that they are not legal. As long as the medications go through the proper approval process with the FDA they are just as legal as any other medication.

CBD and Gout Management

Gout is a difficult condition to deal with. Depending on how bad it gets, it may become completely debilitating. Those who have it are always looking for the best way to deal with and manage the symptoms so that they can continue doing the things they love and spending time with those they love.

Thanks to recent research, an unexpected potential aid has arisen in an unusual place: a compound found in Cannabis, cannabidiol (CBD). What is CBD and how might it provide some relief for those who struggle with gout?

What is gout?

It is best to define gout before we can really get into how CBD may be able to help.

Gout is a very common form of arthritis. Unlike other forms of arthritis, which tend to be a bit more constant, gout shows up in sudden attacks of redness, swelling and pain. It is usually found at the base of the big toe. However, it may be found at any joint of the body.

Flare ups of gout often come very suddenly. They tend to lead to intense pain, but even after that pain goes away those who have it often report discomfort in the affected area lasting up to a week. Gout may also lead to difficulty with motion within the affected joints.

Gout is caused by a buildup of urate crystals within the joints. Urate crystals are caused by large amounts of uric acid in the system. Uric acid is found in foods like steak, seafood, and alcohol. This means that having too much of those in your diet could lead to a higher chance of developing gout.

While diet is a major factor in the potential causes of gout, there are many other factors, as well. For example, those with a family history of gout are more likely to develop the condition, as are men (women tend to have lower levels of uric acid). Certain medications have also been connected with the developing gout.

There are ways to help avoid attacks of gout. For example, staying hydrated is a good way to keep flare ups away. Of course, altering your diet so you take in less uric acid is also a good way to keep attacks to a minimum. However, if you do have flare ups, how do you handle it? Recent research suggests that CBD may be able to help provide some relief for symptoms of gout.

Learning more about CBD

CBD, as mentioned above, is a kind of chemical compound, specifically known as a cannabinoid. These are compounds that are found in Cannabis plants, like marijuana and hemp. There are over 113 different cannabinoids in Cannabis.

CBD is arguably one of the better-known cannabinoids. But there is one that is just as well-known, if not more famous: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is so famous because it is psychoactive. That means that it creates a high in those who use it. CBD often gets thrown in with THC since they are both cannabinoids. But they are actually very different. Unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. It does not create a high. It may help the user reach a greater sense of calm but will not get them high.

While CBD is found in both hemp and marijuana, CBD manufacturers almost exclusively use hemp over marijuana from which to extract the cannabinoid. There are a couple of reasons for this. One of the main reasons is that hemp is bred to have more CBD than THC in it. Whereas, marijuana is bred for the opposite. The high level of CBD in hemp makes extracting the cannabinoid much easier. The other reason is that as of late 2018, industrial hemp is legal in the United States. Marijuana, on the other hand, is still federally illegal.

There has been much research performed on CBD in recent years. They have found a number of interesting things about the cannabinoid. Some of these studies suggest that CBD may be able to help with managing the symptoms of gout.

Focusing on CBD and gout

As mentioned, CBD has been a big area of study for medical research in recent years. There have been some very encouraging results to come from those studies. But what do the studies have to say about gout and its symptoms?

Cannabis therapies have been used to treat gout for thousands of years. Pliny the Elder described a Cannabis root decoction in the first century that he claimed could treat pain and inflammation associated with gout.

One symptom of the condition has been looked extensively in CBD research: inflammation. Swollen joints are a very common side effect of gout and may lead to some serious discomfort. It is also a symptom of several other conditions, so it has been of great interest for researchers.

One study wanted to look at how CBD handled inflammation caused by pancreatitis in mice. The researchers injected some of the mice with pancreatitis with CBD and waited to see how the CBD would interact with the inflamed areas. The researchers found that the CBD-injected mice had less inflammation than those without the cannabinoid.

This is just one study of many that have looked at CBD and inflammation. As time goes on, more studies on the help that the cannabinoid may be able to provide are published. If you are interested in using CBD, it is a good idea to keep an eye for more studies to help fully understand the benefits CBD may offer you.

How to take CBD

You have several options when it comes to taking CBD, as it is an extract that is easily mixed into other products. There are two main kinds of CBD products: topicals and oral products. Each has their benefits and drawbacks. Let’s go over those so you can find the right CBD product for you.

Topicals include a few different products. They tend to be things like lotions and creams with CBD extract mixed in. Topicals are recommended if you are looking for a more localized effect rather than an overall effect. This is because the CBD in these products does not move much beyond where they are placed. In theory, this means that they may have a stronger effect in a particular area.

Oral products are a bit more diverse than topicals and they tend to have more of an overall effect in the body. One of the more traditional oral CBD products are oils and tinctures. These are CBD extracts that have been mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut  oil for example. You can take them in a couple of different ways. One way is to mix it in with some food or drink. Another way is by placing some drops directly into your mouth. While oils and tinctures are rather popular, there are some people who do not like them as much because of their taste. Most tinctures and oils have some sort of flavoring in them, but some people do still taste a certain marijuana flavor. So, if you are sensitive to strong tastes and smells, tinctures and oils may not be for you.

Another kind of CBD oral product is capsules and tablets. These are products that you take like a pill. CBD soft gel capsules are softer and more flexible than regular pills, making them easier to swallow. They also digest more quickly than regular pills, making them start working faster. Tablets are a bit different than soft gel capsules but offer similar benefits. Most CBD tablets are dissolvable. That means you just place them under your tongue and wait for them to dissolve instead of having to swallow them. If you dissolve the tablet under your tongue it may start working more quickly than regular pills, as the skin under your tongue is thin and can absorb things into your bloodstream more quickly.

The final kind of CBD oral products are edibles. These are exactly what they sound like. They are food and drink that have been made with CBD extract. Edibles are very popular. They are easy to take and often taste good. They come in several different forms. You can find candy, pasta, crackers, soda, and coffee all with CBD in them. This means that you have lots of options when it comes to this kind of CBD product. The main downside is that edibles tend to take the longest to start working. The food or drink needs to digest before the CBD can enter the system. These are all CBD options for someone suffering from gout.

Those who have gout know what a struggle it is to deal with flare ups. Other conditions that cause debilitating flareups can include seizure disorders and arthritis. To learn more about CBD treatments for seizure disorders here. While CBD will not prevent flare ups, research does suggest that it may be able to help with easing some of the side effects. This means it may be a good option for those who are looking for help with coping with the condition.

Here at Panacea Life Sciences we are committed to giving our customers the best and most up to date information possible. Can CBD assist those who are feeling worries related to the coronavirus? Let’s find out together.

COVID-19 Worries

Let us start here. Why is there so much worry surrounding the coronavirus? It is perfectly normal to feel worries surrounding this topic as it is new and uncertain. Health care professionals are working hard daily to understand exactly what we can do to keep ourselves safe and hopefully find a cure. There is still much uncertainty and that is likely causing most of the anxiety surrounding the coronavirus. Here is what we do know: symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, shaking and chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and loss of taste. If you feel any of these symptoms together contacting your medical professional is of the utmost importance. There are self-assessments available as well. There are many ways to prevent COVID-19. Stay home as much as you can, keep a safe distance between you and others, wash your hands often, cover your cough and if you do feel sick, call ahead to get tested. If you do test positive for the virus, here is what professionals are saying. Stay home unless to get medical care, monitor symptoms, if they get worse call your healthcare provider, get rest and stay hydrated, use over the counter medications to help you feel better and stay in a specific room when you can to prevent others in your home from being infected. As you can see, this is a lot of information, but, not the information most people are hoping for in a cure or vaccine. Therefore, it is understandable to be looking for ways to soothe your worries. How can CBD help you? Read on to see what we have learned.

What is Cannabidiol (CBD)?

So, what is CBD? CBD or cannabidiol is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa plant. This cannabinoid is often confused for THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the component that gets users to that ‘high’ feeling. CBD does not do that but, it has potential to give many other benefits to users. THC is not legal everywhere because of the inebriating effect it has. In states that have legalized marijuana have strict rules as to who can purchase it and use it recreationally, sort of like alcohol consumption. CBD on the other hand is legal in all 50 states. In 2018 the Farm Bill made it legal for farmers to grow and sell the hemp plant. The hemp plant is a variation of the Cannabis sativa plant. It has higher amounts of CBD and low amounts of THC. The amount of THC in a CBD product must be less than .3% and that is not enough for one to feel the effects of the THC. So, no, CBD will not get you high. What is CBD good for? Does it really soothe?

CBD To Soothe

Can CBD really soothe your worries? There is still much research to be done surrounding CBD and its many properties but, here are a few studies that we found that may help answer this question. In this study those who had been diagnosed with Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD) or Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder were either administered a placebo or CBD before taking a test that would get their social anxiety results. Those who were given the CBD had results like lowered anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in their speech performance and it also lowered their anticipation for their alert. Those who were not administered CBD rated higher in all of those tests. So, what does this all mean? These results showed that CBD was able to help soothe those who have SAD before giving a speech performance (which frightens them). So, will it help those who have worries surrounding COVID-19? It is a possibility. What types of CBD is there? Should you use it daily? There are many types of CBD products available that you can take daily that you may reap the benefits of.

Pills, gummies, oils and isolates, oh my.

Pills? Gummies? Oils? Isolates? Yes, that is right, oh my. These are just a few forms of cannabidiol (CBD) that are available. What are the differences? Is one better than the other? There are many forms and many different products. Whichever form you choose is up to you and your preference. It is best to be educated on these different forms before making your choice because there are slight differences to each of these products that could turn you toward one or the other. Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we want our customers to be well informed so that they can make the choice that’s right for them at each stage of their CBD journey. First, let’s make sure you understand what CBD is and what it is not.

Cannabidiol? What is that?

First things first, what is cannabidiol or CBD? It is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD comes in different variations such as the hemp plant and the marijuana plant. The hemp plant contains high concentrations of CBD whereas the marijuana plant contains more THC. THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol should not be confused with CBD as they have different effects in the body. THC is more well-known because it has a psychogenic or inebriating effect on the user. CBD does not have psychogenic effects but does provide other potential health benefits. Since 2018 growing and selling hemp has been legal via the 2018 Federal Farm Bill. The Farm Bill has allowed farmers in all 50 states to grow and sell hemp legally. However, marijuana is not legal in all states, but a handful have legalized the use of marijuana for recreational purposes as well as medical. CBD has been the less researched of the two cannabinoids, but has been the focus of many purported health benefits. We will touch on those later in the article. Now let’s move on to pills.

Pills

It is likely that you associate the word pills with medication. And it’s true, a majority of medications come in pill form. But, what about CBD? Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we offer softgels, an oral pill formulation. Softgels are easier to swallow than a pill. Once the softgels are swallowed, they travel along the digestive tract to get to the stomach. The outer layer of the softgel is dissolved and the CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream through the lining of the small intestine. Like pills, effects of these softgels will not be felt immediately. The effects vary from when you can feel it because of when you take it, the amount of food you have eaten that day, etc. Softgels are a great way to get CBD into your system daily. Take it in the morning along with any other supplements or medications you may take. Quick and easy!

Softgels and pills are especially easy if you prefer not to taste the CBD. We also make softgels for your furry friends! These can be hidden in a treat or you can pierce the top of the softgel and administer it directly into their mouths.

Gummies

Gummies are quite similar to softgels in the way that they reach the bloodstream. But how one takes an edible is quite different. Maybe you are a person who struggles with or just does not like swallowing pills or softgels. That is quite alright! That is where gummies come in. Our gummies are cherry-flavored and delicious! These are a fun way to incorporate CBD into your daily routine. These take a similar amount of time to get into the bloodstream as softgels. But rather than swallowing a softgel you are chewing a gummy that could definitely be described as candy-like! These are not made for your pet, so, stick to the softgels for them. Other than that, gummies are a great and yummy way to get CBD into your system daily.

Oils

Oils are often called tinctures. What is a tincture? A traditional tincture is an alcohol solution containing the botanical extract of interest. CBD tinctures are extracts mixed with carrier oils.  We use coconut oil here at Panacea Life Sciences. But, what extraction methods are there? Which is best? Here is a list:

These are the most popular types of oil extractions. Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we test our extracts thoroughly for any solvents. Our extracts are also tested by third party labs for purity, residual solvents, and pesticides. Customers can view the Certificate of Analysis for their products using the QR code on all of our products.

Isolates

What is an isolate? An isolate is an extraction that subtracts the desired cannabinoid or compound exclusively with no other cannabinoids present. So, an isolate will only have CBD or THC. There are many other cannabinoids present in hemp and marijuana, but these are the two most popular and abundant. Isolates will not have other cannabinoids or terpenes present whereas Full Spectrum has minor cannabinoids and terpenes. The percentages of each cannabinoid will vary by where you purchase them. CBD is legal only when containing less than 0.3% THC.

Other Types of CBD

What other types of CBD are available?

Uses of CBD

Now that you know more about CBD products, how can they be useful to you? There are several reasons. CBD has been described to promote a sense of calm and increase skin health. There are medications that contain CBD. CBD has antibacterial properties and anti-inflammatory properties. These are just a few of the ways people can use CBD. Promoting a sense of calm in those who may feel feelings of anxiousness is a big one. A lot of people take CBD daily for this reason or even right before bed to settle nerves. Skin health is another popular reason that one may want to use CBD. There are creams and lotions that could help benefit your skin health. Another topical, hand sanitizer, has antibacterial properties and may rid your hands of harmful bacteria. There is indeed CBD that is made into medication. Epiolodex is one of them. This is used to help those who have severe forms of epilepsy. It helps control seizures. There are also several types of CBD medications that assist those going through cancer treatments with the nausea that may follow. Anti-inflammatory properties are another reason some people use CBD.  We did a study about these properties on our canine friends who had osteoarthritis. Pet owners described their pets to be more mobile! There is still much research to be done surrounding CBD, but this sounds promising.

OH MY

Oh my, indeed. There are so many ways to use CBD as well as reasons to use CBD. SO, how will you use CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) products to use after sun exposure

Warmer days are afoot and that means more time in the sun for most of us. We all know how important protecting ourselves from harsh rays of the sun is, but can CBD really help? Here at Panacea Life Sciences, we have a range of wellness-enhancing products that contain CBD. We are committed to bringing the best information to our customers, so, although we currently do not carry CBD sunscreen/aftercare products, we still want you to be fully informed. Let’s dive into what potential benefits CBD has for sun exposure so that you may have a healthy and happy summer that you deserve.

CBD? What is it?

Let us start with the basics. What is cannabidiol or more well known as CBD? CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis sativa plant. When extracted properly CBD has been known to possibly create great wellness benefits. CBD has just come out of the woodwork as it has taken the “back seat” to another Cannabis sativa cannabinoid – THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. It is highly likely that you have heard of THC as it is the main component in the marijuana plant (a version of the cannabis sativa plant). This component is the psychoactive of the two cannabinoids. THC gives users a “high” or sense of euphoria when used. CBD does not get one “high” and this is a very common misconception. CBD is legal throughout the United States as of 2018 with the Farm Bill. This bill gave hemp farmers, specifically, the right to farm hemp plants throughout the states. The hemp plant is a version of the Cannabis sativa plant that has a high amount of CBD and a lower amount of THC (less than .3%, actually) which is so low that one cannot get high when used. With this being said, marijuana containing high amounts of THC is legal in a certain number of states. For medicinal purposes and even for recreational use as well (you must be at least over 21 to use THC for fun). For the purpose of this blog post – we are talking about CBD, not THC.

CBD Products + The Sun

Now that we understand what CBD is and what it is not, let’s get into the nitty gritty. CBD products and the sun? Currently, there are not many studies on this specific topic. There are products that are for before and after care of the sun. There are sunscreens available as well as lotions, salves and creams (we have these) that may be used for after care. The main reason that CBD and the sun have been linked together is because of the benefits that have been shown when CBD is used on the skin. What are the benefits of a topical CBD product? There are multiple types of CBD topicals including lotion, salves, creams and even hand sanitizer. Topicals can also be a boon for skin-based conditions. You can read more about CBD Topicals for Psoriasis here.

This study used multiple categories to test the skin before and after the use of CBD topicals. It used an elasticity, a hydration, and a transepidermal water loss test. Support from this was found in photographic evidence from the study. They found that the administration of a topical CBD ointment may be a positive way to improve skin health for those with or without skin conditions. So, what about sun products containing CBD? There are after care products, such as lotions that would assist post-sun exposure. When one is out in the sun the rays eliminate moisture in the skin – therefore leaving the skin try and susceptible to aging. Using a CBD moisturizer is a great holistic way to get the moisture back into the skin where it belongs. When it comes to sunscreen there are different opinions. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) warns users about the dangers of the chemicals added into most sunscreens and the impact they have on the environment. If your CBD sunscreen contains non-nano zinc as a chemical blocker – you may be having less of an impact on the environment. It should be noted that the FDA has not said these chemical blockers are unsafe. Click here for what the EWG found.

What else can I use for post-sun exposure?

The list of after sun care is long and wide. Your accessibility and your preference is what should guide you to the perfect post-sun skin health. Here is what we found:

  1. Aloe vera – this is one of the most common post-sunburn treatments but can also be used for regular sun exposure. Most aloe vera is natural and has a wonderful cooling sensation when applied to hot skin. It is also moisturizing which is the best thing for your skin post-sun, as stated before.
  2. Coconut oil – this way of assisting skin after sun exposure may seem odd, but it really helps! Whether or not it helps treat sunburns is unknown, but it moisturizes the skin and that may help with peeling or itching.
  3. Shea butter – another great source of moisture and it is natural too! It is an anti-inflammatory, full of antioxidants and anti-bacterial. Shea butter even has minuscule amounts of SPF (3 to 4, so make sure to still wear sunscreen).

These are just three of some natural ways to help retain the moisture back into your skin after sun exposure. There are also multiple natural ways to help heal sunburns. Some of those are:

  1. Cool water – in a nutshell a sunburn is inflammation of the skin and cool water helps the inflammation go down, so, jump back into the pool!
  2. Baking soda and oatmeal – take a (cold) bath with these two ingredients to help soothe red skin.
  3. Aloe vera – as stated above, this is a very common practice. If you don’t have a plant in-house, purchase a 100% aloe gel.
  4. Chamomile tea – chamomile has soothing properties as well. Brew some up, let it cool and apply it to the burnt area.
  5. Vinegar – some say this works, others not so much. Adding a few cups to a cold bath is supposed to take the sting out of the burn. Try it on a small area first to see if it works for you, if it does, have a nice bath!

Are there other uses of CBD?

Absolutely, there are many other uses of CBD. Besides skin health there are many other uses for CBD. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a few different types of medication that contain CBD. There are three that assist cancer patients who have nausea: Marinol (dronabinol), Syndros (dronabinol) and Cesamet (nabilone). Epidiolex, a pure CBD medication,  helps treat and prevent seizures in those who have Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.

CBD has also been described to have anti-inflammatory properties. Panacea Life Sciences conducted a study where pet owners gave their dogs who had osteoarthritis CBD daily. These owners told us that their dogs had improved mobility!

An overall sense of calm has also been reported for those who have used CBD. Whether or not a person has feelings of anxiousness throughout the day or if you have trouble calming the mind before bed, CBD may assist you. This study investigates rats who have feelings of helplessness and anhedonia. It concludes that the rats that were given CBD experienced fewer of those feelings.

Other CBD Products

Besides the noted products above (CBD topicals) what other products are out there? Here is a list:

So, CBD and the sun?

Hopefully having read all of this information you feel more informed on CBD and the sun as well as everything surrounding CBD. CBD topicals may be a great way to help re-moisturize your skin after those hot summer days. However, CBD sunscreen has not been tested much so, be wary of claims. Drink lots of water and enjoy your summer!

Are there CBD medications like Epidiolex?

The last few years have been exciting ones for cannabidiol (CBD). It seems like CBD products are everywhere these days. You can find it in food products, as oil, and in lotions. But for all its notoriety, few people know what CBD is. Is it a supplement? A medication? If it can stop seizures, it’s a medication, right?

Starting simple: what is CBD?

Before we can talk about CBD medications, we need to talk about what exactly CBD is. Afterall, if you are looking to take a CBD-based medication it is probably best to understand what this compound is.

Cannabis sativa plants, like hemp and marijuana, have several chemical compounds in them like cannabinoids. There are over 113 cannabinoids found in the plants, CBD being one of these cannabinoids. There are additionally a number of other compounds called terpenes that give cannabis its unique smell and taste. CBD has a number of reported positive health effects different from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

It is important to know that while CBD and THC are both cannabinoids, they are not very similar in effect. THC has what is called a psychoactive effect on people. This means that it creates a high. In fact, THC is the cannabinoid that creates the high that is so often associated with Cannabis.

Before we talk about the effects of CBD, let’s get into more detail about the compound. To start with, it is normally extracted from hemp and not marijuana. There are a few reasons for this. One of the main ones is that hemp has high levels of CBD and low levels of THC. Marijuana, on the other hand, has the opposite; it has low levels of CBD and high levels of THC. As you can imagine, these levels of CBD make it possible to extract high purity CBD from hemp.

The other reason why CBD is extracted from hemp more often than marijuana is that industrial hemp is legal in the United States, while marijuana still is not. Hemp was legalized in America in late 2018 with the signing of the 2018 Farm Bill. This bill made it legal for people to grow, sell and make products from industrial hemp (we go into more detail about the Farm Bill and its effects in this article).

Most CBD products are made with one of three CBD extracts. The three different CBD ingredients are full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and CBD isolate. The differences between these are based on how many other cannabinoids and compounds are in the extract with the CBD. Full-spectrum has the most other cannabinoids and compounds with all of the other compounds found in the hemp with the CBD, including THC (though it is only 0.3% which is not enough to have an effect on anyone). Broad-spectrum is similar to full-spectrum, the main difference is that it does not have any THC in it. Broad spectrum products are a good option for those who have interest in taking advantage of what is sometimes called the entourage effect without THC. CBD isolate is just CBD. There are no other compounds and cannabinoids in the extract with the CBD.

Research on CBD has spiked in recent years. As a result, we obtaining a better idea of the kinds of effects it may have on people. For example, this study found that CBD was able to help with acne. This is because the CBD was able to help reduce sebum production (the oil that skin produces to help protect it and also causes acne).

Other studies have looked at CBD and inflammation. This study, for example, found that CBD was greatly able to help reduce inflammation in acute lung injury. This and other studies have been showing that CBD may be able to help many people with their inflammation.

One of the most exciting areas of study for CBD is evaluating at how it may affect epilepsy.

Focusing on Epidiolex

The first pure CBD medication to officially be approved by the FDA is an epilepsy medication called Epidiolex. The goal of the medication is to help calm the frequency of epileptic seizures, especially in children. Epidiolex may be used by anyone two years and older.

Epidiolex was developed because of the studies that have been done on CBD and epilepsy. For example, this study found that CBD was able to help calm seizures in animals. Another study found that CBD was also able to help with rats struggling with epileptic-related behaviors. These are just two examples of the many human clinical trials that have been done on the way that CBD and epilepsy interacts.

In mid-2018, the FDA officially approved Epidiolex for use with a prescription drug for the treatment of severe epilepsy, providing many people with relief. This includes those who have epilepsy and their loved ones, as the seizures may have a toll on everyone.

Epidiolex appears to have minimal side effects, including when taken at very high doses. Side effects such as nausea and loss of appetite are possible, but not common. However, those who take Epidiolex need to be on the lookout for side effects that may suggest issues with the liver. This includes issues like jaundice and stomach pain. Beyond that, there do not seem to be any overly serious side effects.

Epidiolex is just one example of a CBD-based medication. However, many have yet to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so we are not yet sure what benefits they may offer.

Other uses of CBD

There are not many CBD-based prescription medications, yet. Epidiolex is the main one right now. There are many additional formulations going through the approval process with the FDA. If you are interested in taking CBD, but there is not a medication made for with the effect you are looking for, you may want to try a different CBD product. There are many available and as a result, there is a lot of versatility. Let’s talk about what some of those options are.

Tinctures and oils

Oils and tinctures are the more traditional route for CBD products. The oils are CBD extracts that have been placed in a carrier oil, like coconut oil for example. Tinctures are similar, but they are generally just the extract. There are a few ways that you can take these. You can either mix them in with food or drink and take it that way. Or you can put as many drops as you need under your tongue and allow the CBD to enter your bloodstream.

Topicals

These products are things like lotions and creams. They are made for localized use to benefit skin health. CBD in topicals remain where the lotion is applied. This means that topicals will not provide the more overarching effect that other products do.

Tablets and capsules

Capsules and tablets are pill-like products formulated with CBD. Soft gel capsules are like regular pills, but are more flexible, making them easier to swallow. They also tend to work faster than regular pills, they take less time to digest. CBD tablets tend to be a little different as they are often the kind of tablet that you place under your tongue and let dissolve. These are like oils and tinctures, as the skin under the tongue tends to be thin, making it easy for things to enter the bloodstream sublingually.

Edibles

These are like they sound: CBD products that are made to be eaten. They come in many different forms, from candy to crackers. They even are in drinks, from soda to tea. As a result, there a lot of options for you to pick from. Edibles are a good option for those who want to take CBD, but either do not like the flavor of the oils or have a hard time taking capsules. The thing that is important to remember is that edibles do not start working for a while, as they need time to digest. This means that you need to be careful and give them enough time to start working before taking more to be sure that you do not take too much.

Epidiolex, a CBD-based medication, may offer some much-needed help for those who struggle and those who have loved ones who struggle with epileptic seizures. It is exciting to consider the other CBD medications that appear to be on the horizon as they go through the FDA approval process. Anyone who is interested in CBD should keep an eye out to see what else comes out.

Can cannabidiol (CBD) help with Fragile X syndrome?

Those who have Fragile X- or Martin-Bell Syndrome have to deal with several different struggles. As a result, their loved ones are often looking potential additions to their caretaking strategy. Recent research has been suggesting that there may be help from an unexpected source: cannabidiol (CBD).

Talking about CBD

Before we can get into the details of Fragile X and CBD, we need to start by talking about just CBD first.

Cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana, have 113 different kinds of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. CBD is one of those compounds. There are also other cannabinoids that you may have heard of. For example, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a cannabinoid.

You likely have heard of THC because it is psychoactive. That means it creates the high that is so often associated with Cannabis. CBD, while also a cannabinoid, is not psychoactive. It does not create a high. In fact, it is often reported to create a greater sense of calm in its users.

There have been a lot of studies looking at the effects that CBD may be able to have on users. Some of them have looked at things that are connected to Fragile X syndrome.

What is Fragile X syndrome and how might CBD help?

Fragile X syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects development and intellectual abilities. It is a disorder that is more common in males than in females as it is found on the X chromosome (as the name would suggest). It can cause developmental delays in children, speech impediments, difficulty with attention and anxiety, among other things. It is also often linked with Autism.

While CBD may not be able to help with all of the symptoms associated with Fragile X syndrome, there are some studies that suggest that CBD may be able to help with certain symptoms. For example, many people with the disorder struggle with anxiety. New situations can be overstimulating. Many studies on CBD have been focused on the cannabinoid’s calming effects. This study wanted to look at what relief may be able provide people with generalized social anxiety disorder. The researchers found that CBD was able to help the test subjects achieve a greater sense of calm.

Those with Fragile X syndrome also often struggle with attention issues and hyperactivity. Studies on CBD’s calming effects are not just focused on anxiety. Some have looked at CBD’s potential to manage the symptoms of conditions like ADHD. For example, this study looked at how CBD changed the behavior of hyperactive rats. The researchers concluded that CBD was able to help the rats keep their hyperactivity under control without dulling their personalities.

CBD is still being studied and we are still understanding what potential benefits the cannabinoid may be able to provide. As of right now, the studies are promising.

Different kinds of CBD products

There are many different options out there for taking CBD. It is a versatile extract and can be made into just about any product. So, it is easy to find the right product for you or your child.

One of the more common kinds of CBD are oral products. This includes a number of different kinds of products, but it is always best to start with one of the more traditional ones. In this case, traditional is referring to oils and tinctures. These are CBD extracts that have been mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut oil for example. They can be taken in a few different ways. One of the more common ways to take a CBD oil or tincture is to mix it in with food or drink. This is a good way because, while many tinctures and oils have flavoring, some people do not like the flavor of the oils. Mixing it in with food or drink may help mask the flavor. The more direct way to take tinctures or oils is to put a few drops under your tongue. If your child is a picky eater, this may not be the best way for them to take it.

Other kinds of oral products are capsules and tablets. These are different types of pills made with CBD. These are not always the best option for children as kids often have a difficult time swallowing pills. However, soft gel capsules are often flexible, making them a bit easier to swallow for kids or adults who struggle with stiff pills. They also start working faster than regular pills. These are usually products that you dissolve on your tongue. There is no need swallow anything.

The most popular kind of oral product is edibles. These are food and drinks that have CBD mixed in with them. They can vary from candy to pasta. The drinks can be anything from soda to tea. These are so popular because they are easy to take and taste great. These are often the best option for children. However, it is best to keep CBD edibles out of reach of children, to be sure that they do not take too much. There are no serious side effects associated with taking too much CBD. However, it can cause an upset stomach.

The last kind of CBD product out there are topicals. These are things like lotions and cremes with CBD mixed in with them. Topicals are better for more localized effects. The CBD does not move on much past the area the topical is applied. Oral products are more likely to give an overall effect.

People with Fragile X syndrome and their loved ones have to learn to deal with a number of different things. Recent research suggests that CBD may be able to provide some aid in making those things easier to deal with. As more research is done, we hope to understand more how CBD could help. CBD has shown promise with moderating symptoms of other diseases like anxiety. In studies with individuals experiencing discomfort from social speaking, CBD was shown to moderate feelings of discomfort and anxiety from public speaking. CBD has shown promise in moderating the severity and frequency of seizures in those suffering from seizure disorders as well.

If you or a loved one are suffering from Fragile X Syndrome, please contact Panacea Life Sciences, Inc. for a week’s supply of CBD and to participate in our initial efficacy study.

How does Cannabidiol (CBD) work with your dog?

Cannabidiol, or more commonly known as “CBD”, is becoming more common in the pet market. But, why? What does CBD have to do with pets? How does CBD affect a dog? There are plenty of questions, and we here at Panacea Life Sciences have researched them for you. At the end of this article you will know what CBD is, if CBD is safe for dogs, the benefits of giving CBD to your dog, and how to administer CBD to your dog. While you read this article, it is important to be aware that the research on CBD is still in its adolescence and pet owners report varying levels of success for a variety of conditions. Doing your own research is strongly recommended. Read on to find out how CBD may be helpful for your perfect pet.

What is Cannabidiol (CBD)?

There are two predominant compounds found in the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. One of these compounds, that most people have heard of, is tetrahydrocannabinol, more well-known as THC. This product of the Cannabis plant is the psychoactive substance that gives users the “high” feeling. For a Cannabis Sativa plant to be classified as hemp, it must have less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. Industrial hemp is the plant almost all CBD products are derived from. CBD is the compound that may have certain positive attributes for wellness. People often mistake CBD for THC. Products high in THC are still considered to be a Schedule 1 Narcotic under the Controlled Substances Act by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency while CBD is legal in all 50 states. If you live in a state that has legalized THC for recreational use, it is important to read all labels carefully when purchasing CBD as high doses of THC can be toxic for dogs.

Is CBD safe for dogs?

Like humans, dogs will not get high from using CBD. But there are precautions that should be taken before purchasing and administering CBD to your pet. In this blog post we here at Panacea Life Sciences, explain what makes a good CBD product for your dog. Most CBD product labels will show less than 0.3% of THC. Although this minimal amount will likely not cause any adverse effects for most dogs, high doses THC has been known to cause ataxia in dogs. It is also important to note that some items that are found in CBD gummies could be harmful, such as Xylitol which can cause hypoglycemia, liver failure, and seizures in dogs even though it is safe for humans. Tinctures are a popular CBD product for dogs as they are easy to administer and don’t need to be taken orally. We recommend rubbing the balm inside the ear so Fido can’t lick it off! (Licking it won’t be harmful, but may not taste so good.)

Why give your dog CBD?

The reasons you would want to give your dog CBD are the same reasons you would give yourself CBD. There is no conclusive research on the effect CBD may have on your dog, but a lot of pet owners have seen benefits. CBD has been reported to give a sense of calmness to dogs who may experience anxiousness. CBD has also been reported to improve in dogs’ joint health. There have been reports that show CBD may assist in minimizing seizures and increasing appetite. A 2018 study done by Panacea Life Sciences showed that 86% of users experienced positive benefits, you can read more about it here. It is also important to speak with your veterinarian to see if CBD may be right for your perfect pet.

What are the effects of CBD in dogs?

There are a lot of positive effects of CBD that have been reported by pet owners. Along with the positive effects, there has been reports of some negative effects. These negative effects that are reported are when CBD is not 100% THC free. This is because high amounts of THC are toxic to animals. Some of the effects of CBD in dogs are assistance in ease of movement, a sense of calm, increased appetite, seizure management, and overall health and wellness. Every dog is different, and the effects CBD may have on them will be different as well. It is important to do your research when choosing and administering CBD for your dog or other furry friend.

How do I give my dog CBD?

Like humans, there are many ways to give your pet CBD. There are treats that have CBD extracts formulated into them. There are also tinctures that you can add to your pet’s already favorite treat. Owners can also place an amount in their dog’s mouth right by the gum line so that it may be absorbed. There are also soft gel capsules that pet owners can hide in favorite treats or if your dog takes pill-sized objects well, you can just pop one right in their mouth! Just like humans, every dog is different and reacts differently to CBD. It is important to start the amount administered to your dog low and keep a close eye on your pet to see how they react. Always speak to a veterinarian to make sure that the CBD you give your pet will not interact with any other conditions or medications.

In conclusion

There may be positive effects for your dog if you administer CBD into their systems. These effects may include a sense of calm, improved mobility, less severe seizures, an increased appetite for those puppies who may be on the smaller side, and to increase their overall wellness. Although there is minimal specific research complete on dogs and CBD, other dog moms and dads have reported positive effects. Like humans, dogs vary in size and weight. Their ECS (Endocannabinoid system) appears to be different than our own, so it is important to start with a small amount of CBD. Always find the CBD at a reputable CBD retailer. If you’re looking for a way to assist your puppy in a more holistic approach, this may be for you!

Panacea Life Sciences, Inc. Transitions Some of its Operations to the Manufacturing & Procurement of Hand Sanitizers & Cleanser to Support COVID-19 Relief Efforts

GOLDEN, COLO. — Weds., April 29, 2020 — Panacea Life Sciences, Inc. (Panacea), one of the nation’s leading cannabinoid companies, announced it has transitioned some of its operations to the production and procurement of critical supplies in response to shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During this time of crisis, Panacea is pleased to do our part to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic by leveraging our existing core competencies to provide important products to prevent the spreading of this virus,” said Leslie Buttorff, Chief Executive Officer of Panacea Life Sciences, Inc. “Panacea prides itself on cultivating wellness every day, and we have regularly been hearing from organizations who are in need of critical supplies. We are proud to step-up and contribute to the collective effort to help protect the doctors, nurses, other health workers, utilities, and government agencies who are caring for others on the front lines.”

Panacea began manufacturing its own CBD hand sanitizers two weeks ago. This effort led to receiving further orders for non-CBD hand sanitizers, as well as a cleansing cream, for front line health care workers and other workers deemed essential at this time. Panacea pivoted some of its normal business operations of manufacturing CBD and other cannabinoid products to working with its global supply chain network, as well as switching its manufacturing capabilities to produce bottles of hand sanitizers (80% ethyl alcohol content for health establishments, 62% ethyl alcohol content for consumers). More than 5 million hand sanitizers will be ready for purchase and distribution the first week in May.

Panacea occupies a former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laboratory that was retrofitted to meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements. The company has extraction, manufacturing, testing, and fulfillment capabilities within the laboratory. Panacea is leveraging its existing expertise in strategic sourcing, inventory management, manufacturing, and testing of products using their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system SAP for management to address the pressing need for critical medical supplies around the country. Panacea is also currently providing supplies to local and state municipalities nationwide, including the State of Texas and the State of Arizona.

Panacea produces the highest-quality, hemp-derived, premium CBD products through 100% seed-to-sale operations, and stringent testing. Based in Golden, Colo., Panacea makes products exclusively in the legal, hemp-derived CBD sector for humans and animals that includes fast-acting sublingual tablets, soft gels, gummies, tinctures, cosmetics, sports patches and tapes, and other topicals. Does the skin absorb CBD? The ultimate guide to CBD topicals

The largest organ of our body is our skin. It’s a living organism; it breathes and does an excellent job of protection against foreign bodies and infections. However, just as eating the right food satisfies our digestive system, the right cream and lotion can do wonders for our skin. Recently, cannabidiol (CBD) has found its way into the beauty industry as companies look at how best to incorporate this helpful supplement.

While the reported anti-inflammatory and antioxidant nature of CBD seems to make it ideal for use in a beauty cream, it is the research into topical CBD and skin problems that makes this ingredient so exciting.

CBD Topicals

Let’s talk about topicals. Topicals are CBD-based balms, oils, and creams that are applied to the skin. CBD can be a powerful ingredient in skincare products. It has shown potential to both diminish inflammation and decrease discomfort.

Confusion about cannabis-based alternatives is always present because of the abundance of cannabis products, so a clear understanding of what topicals are is essential. For this reason, we have decided to clarify as fully as possible everything there is to know about CBD creams.

With the right information and research, you will soon learn the lingo and know all the differences between products.

Many consumers (for both medical and recreational use) prefer CBD ointments for a variety of reasons, including the relief they provide. Here is our guide to everything you need to know about CBD ointments.

What are CBD ointments?

Cannabis-based topical ointments have been around for thousands of years, coming from ancient China and Ancient Egypt, where they were used to relieve pain and inflammation. Unfortunately, modern society has a bad habit of ignoring homemade remedies from our ancestors.

CBD Creams and Lotions

As far as CBD creams and lotions are concerned, the only big difference between ointments and balms is the presence of a small amount of water. Balms and ointments use oils, as well as wax as a base, but no water. This is a significant difference that impacts the final texture of the product. Other differences will be discussed later, including the amount of CBD present in ointments.

Understanding how CBD topical works

When ingested, CBD acts on the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS), promoting more efficient receptor linkages and supporting enzyme activity. The role of CBD is to support the ECS in maintaining balance. Fortunately, this same process applies to the skin, but rather than penetrating the bloodstream, CBD shows effectiveness at a localized level. When CBD is applied topically, it is absorbed through the pores of our skin, allowing it to work with the ECS.

Topical application

During topical application, lotions, creams, and other CBD products are applied directly to the skin. Topical application is preferable for helping with localized symptoms. Purely topic-based application of CBD functions locally – as CBD does not penetrate the skin or enter the bloodstream unless formulated with compounds designed to carry CBD across the skin barrier.

Topical CBD affects human sebocytes – the cells that make up the sebaceous gland, which produces an oily secretion that keeps the skin supple, also called sebum. If applied topically, CBD will absorb into the skin and  collect inside the sebaceous gland. In other words, CBD can penetrate the sebaceous gland via hair follicles to modulate sebocyte function.

Local and transdermal creams

There is a difference between topical and transdermal creams. Transdermal means “skin permeable,” which means that the CBD passes through the skin and enters the body. The outer layer of the skin (epidermis) must protect the other layers of the skin (dermis and hypodermis) from pathogens, UV rays, or toxins. A transdermal cream, is specifically formulated to allow the CBD to be “admitted,” meaning that the active ingredients in the transdermal cream can also affect the lower layers of the skin.

A transdermal cream is, therefore, more appropriate for treatments where CBD has to be introduced into the bloodstream or where it has to penetrate deeper parts of the skin such as with anti-aging creams.  Because transdermal CBD creams will penetrate the body, the cannabinoid may exert its effects throughout the body and thus may also help with relaxation and a calmer state of mind.

Topical creams, on the other hand, should be used if you want to treat a specific area of the skin. Topical creams are, therefore, mainly used to protect and repair, treat or reduce discomfort on the skin. However, they are also ideal for blemished skin. As you can see, a topical cream is more likely to be used to treat the surface. However, a CBD-based topical cream does not reach the lower layers of the skin, so the active ingredients are not absorbed into the circulatory cycle.

With a CBD topical cream, cannabidiol does not penetrate directly into the body as it would with CBD oil or CBD gummies. Nevertheless, the active ingredient in CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Receptors for this system are also located in the skin.

How to use CBD balms

First, clean the area with soap and water to remove any residue of grease, dust, or previously applied creams or ointments. This will ensure that no barriers are preventing the area from recovering properly and that the best conditions for absorption are created.

For adults, massage the ointment generously into the area and allow it to be absorbed for a few minutes. Then apply bandages so that it does not come off. Monitor for bad reactions in the area like rashes, redness, itchiness, etc.

Older and young people often have thinner skin, thus apply a lower quantity.

Once applied, the ointment can take between one to 48 hours to work and relieve the area. This depends on the dosage, frequency of use, and the severity of the condition.

CBD Cream Components

The ingredients of a CBD cream are somewhat dependent on the manufacturer and the product. In addition to CBD, creams very often contain a multitude of natural ingredients as well as substances that could all be of therapeutic use.

These are mostly substances that are also known from other creams—for example, shea butter, beeswax, almond oil, sandalwood, aloe vera or eucalyptus oil. We find the combination of CBD with almond oil and shea butter optimal. These last two substances are also known to bring vitamin E to the body and help to reduce wrinkles.

In some cases, antioxidants such as Berberine or omega 3, 6, 7, and 9 fatty acids are added to creams. Among other things, they ensure cellular stability. Other cannabinoids such as CBC, CBG, or CBN are also partially included in CBD creams.

If a CBD cream derived from industrial hemp contains THC, it will only be in low concentrations that does not exceed 0.3% of the product.  In short, the ingredients depend on the primary purpose of the cream: does it help with wounds or moisturize my skin?

Conclusion

Instead of consuming cannabis by smoking it, you can use topicals. If you are looking to improve skin health in specific areas, then CBD ointments will be an excellent alternative. Whether you are a beginner in the use of CBD products, or you are just hoping to relieve your discomfort without getting high, then topical CBD products will be exciting, especially CBD ointments.

Not only are topical products powerful and non-addictive, but they are also natural and have many benefits. There is no reason why you should not try CBD ointments, and why not recommend them to others.
