KN95 Masks: Why are they important?

2020 has been, to say the least, a very interesting and complicated year so far. The most popular topic has been the Coronavirus, or COVID-19. There are a plethora of new rules and regulations that have been introduced to our daily lives. One of those new rules? Masks. Most establishments require face coverings before entering. In the start, there was a struggle to get medical professionals the masks they needed to protect them from this unknown entity. Now that we have passed the majority of the panic, it is now a debate on which mask is most useful. If you work in the health-field, you will likely have heard of the KN95 mask and know everything that this article will be about. So, you can skip this and read more about our high-quality CBD (cannabidiol) in our CBD Blog. Let’s start off with some definitions.

What is KN95?

A KN95 mask is a type of mask used to help prevent the spread illnesses that are contagious through the air. These masks are a bit more protective than the average cloth masks you may have been seeing everywhere.

Here is information about the masks that we carry

  • Fit – The flexible nose guard is designed to provide a custom fit to ensure a soft and comfortable fit to reduce skin irritation while the stretchable braided ear bands ensure comfort over long periods of wear time.
  • Easy to wear – The vertical folding design and overall lightweight structure make this mask easy to store and carry.
  • Protective – The KN95 is a disposable and breathable mask designed to offer more protection than standard disposable 3-Ply masks.
  • 4-Ply – 4-Layers of protection include a non-woven inner layer, melt-blown filter, hot air cotton filter, and non-woven outer shell.

Our masks are Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Approved. The CDC tested a limited number of masks from this manufacturer and found that the filtration efficiency was above 95%. It is important to note that there have been some KN95 masks that have been made with filtration valves. These masks are not approved or recommended by the CDC. This is because the valves make the masks not as effective. The filtration in the valve does not keep the virus from getting in or out of the mask. So, these masks could still be putting you and others in at risk for spreading COVID-19. Want to learn more about the KN95 (without valves)? Click here to learn more.

How do KN95 masks  help with COVID-19?

The CDC recommends that people wear masks in public places and when they are with people who do not live with you, especially when you cannotake the extra measure of social distance. Masks may help prevent people who already have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others. These are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when people in public settings widely use them. Masks should not be used by kids under the age of two.

Masks are recommended as a barrier to prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raising their voice. This is called “source control.” This recommendation is because of what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

What is COVID-19 or the Coronavirus?

You likely know what the Coronavirus is, but here is an overview, just in case you need a bit more clarification. COVID-19 is a new form of the Coronavirus and has spread internationally. There are countries that have contained it well, others not so much. There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding this new virus, but we know this.

 The symptoms include:

  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Fever or chills
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Cough

If you feel sick it is best to say home or if you have been exposed to someone who tested positive. Wearing a mask is just starting to stop the spread and getting back to our healthy lives.

If a case is severe, COVID-19 can cause respiratory problems, kidney failure, and even death. This all sounds very scary, but the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) gave us some guidelines on how to stop the spread of this disease.

What else can we do to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus?

There are many ways that the CDC has given us to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Here are a few easy ones:

  • Avoid close contact: If someone is sick inside your home, attempt to maintain six feet of distance between you and someone who is sick. Outside of the house, do the same with others around you.
  • Clean and regularly sanitize: Clean places and things that are often touched throughout your house.
  • Cover your mouth and nose: This is important when you are out in public. It is possible that you could spread COVID-19 to others without knowing that you are sick. Everyone should wear a cloth facemask when out around others.
  • Wash your hands: Before eating or preparing food, before touching your face, after using the restroom, after leaving a public place, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, after handling your cloth face covering, after changing a diaper, after caring for someone sick and after touching animals or pets.

These are just a few ways we can help others stay safe and yourself. To learn more about COVID-19, click here to be taken to the CDC website.

What other types of masks are used?

Perhaps you are in a bind and cannot wait for a mask to get to your house. What other types of masks are there? There are plenty of masks available now that most of the panic has settled. Most grocery stores have them available for purchase or you can even make your own. The CDC website has instructions on masks you can make by sewing or a no-sew option as well. People are using bandanas or scarves as face-coverings as well. As long as your mouth and nose are covered, you are doing your part to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Bottom Line: COVID-19 Edition

There is still a lot we need to learn about this virus that has created chaos in this year of 2020, but there are small things that we do know and can do to help everyone. So, wear your mask and stay safe!

Is Organic CBD Better Than Non-Organic?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a household name at this point. You can find it nearly anywhere, and to say its online presence is booming would be an understatement. But as the market for this trendy new product emerges, as does the big question…which CBD is the best CBD? Now, there are many different voices with different views. Whether that be on which form of CBD is best, what product they prefer, why they endorse a particular brand…it boils down to one essential thing: what is the best possible, highest quality CBD to begin with?

But before we contrast and compare, let’s go over some background information on the subject in question: CBD.

The Compound

CBD is one of over 480 naturally occurring chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant genus. Now, 480 is a large number, so let’s narrow that down; CBD is also one of over 113 cannabinoids found in cannabis. What distinguishes a cannabinoid from all the other chemical compounds is its ability to interact with our own Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Our ECS is part of our central nervous system, and therefore plays a role in regulating several bodily systems, such as sleep, mood, pain-sensation, appetite, memory, and much more.

How exactly CBD and the ECS interlink is explained by the cannabinoids’ ability to interact with cannabinoid receptor expressing cells in our ECS. This ability essentially allows for cannabinoids, like CBD, to bind with these receptors and send messages throughout the body, thus allowing for meaningful influence. As previously stated, CBD is just one of many cannabinoids. Tetrahydrocannabinol, otherwise known as THC, is another famous (or should I say infamous?) cannabinoid derived from the cannabis plant.

The difference between the two is crucial, and the 2018 Farm Bill only recently legalized CBD. Up until then, CBD’s association with THC kept it in the shadows and out of the hands of farmers, researchers, and the commercial market. This “crucial difference” is that THC is psychoactive, results in a “high” or intoxication, while CBD is not. The explanation behind this takes us back to the ECS, and the varying influence cannabinoids can produce.

Although there more than 75 receptors that CBD interact, two primary cannabinoid receptors in the ECS have been described to mediate many cannabinoid effects; CB1 found primarily in the brain and CB2 expressed on immune cells. Both THC and CBD interact with these receptors, but their interactions are quite different, as you probably guessed. While researchers are still learning just how the ECS works, they know that THC binds strongly with both receptors, while CBD binds weakly or not. As a result, CBD does not get you high, but that’s not to say that it has zero effect. CBD is reported to produce a calming, relaxing effect and a lift in mood.

Furthermore, as personal accounts and research dives deeper into exploring this magnificent but mysterious compound, we find out more about the possibility of various other benefits, some of which are speculative while studies more thoroughly back others. Among these include the chance to help achieve a greater sense of calmsupport joint health, and many other things.

The Process

Pure CBD oil is typically harvested from the hemp plant, which contains naturally high cannabidiol and low levels of THC. Determining whether CBD is considered “organic” or not requires a close inspection not only of that way in which the CBD oil itself is produced but an ever-closer review that takes us back to the roots. Scratch that, before the roots!

You see, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has strict guidelines on how hemp must be grown for the CBD to qualify as organic. First, forget about genetically-modifying the seeds. Organic means non-GMO, no ifs, and, or buts. Next, the soil cannot be treated by organic-prohibited substances, like certain pesticides, for a minimum of three years before planting. As well, synthetic additives designed to boost growth are strictly prohibited. That means that during the entire tilling, growing and crop rotating process, the soil must follow these conditions and rely solely on naturally-sourced fertilizers—and that’s just the beginning!

Once planted, the real fun begins! Throughout the entirety of the harvesting and handling process, every single non-agricultural substance, synthetic or not, must comply with a rigorous, particular federal list. Any substance prohibited by the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances will render your product non-organic. This means that the organic hemp must be kept separate at all times from any non-organic matter to avoid cross-contamination, and must not be processed with any synthetic chemicals. It doesn’t matter if it’s just one measly drop—if it’s on the no-no list, you’re off the organic list!

The Conclusion

The truth is, the regulations surrounding CBD are still being worked out, and because of this, one cannot always be 100% sure that what they’re buying is what is being marketed to them. There are many ways to grow, harvest, and process hemp, all resulting in different quality CBD. However, to slap a “USDA Organic” label on your product, you have to meet the stringent guidelines set forth. With organic CBD, one has a better idea of what goes into their CBD, both behind the scenes and in the product itself.

It depends who you’re asking, but typically, “natural” is considered “better.” Organic is considered “cleaner” because the label implies that the product is free of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals. This essentially makes the final product the most “natural” of its form as possible. There are a number of different CBD products that can all be considered natural, such as CBD isolate, edibles, pills, topicals, wax, and more.

Naturally, it is always best to do your research and speak with a medical or industry professional before implementing any CBD product, organic or not, into your regiment.

What science observes about CBD benefits

Over the last few years, it is more than likely that you have heard about cannabidiol (CBD). Whether it was because you stumbled across some at a store or heard about it because of a Kardashian, it has probably crossed your path. This has probably left you wondering what CBD even is. You have probably also wondered why it is such a big deal. After all, what kind of evidence backs up the things that are said about it? Well, let’s talk about it, starting with defining CBD.

CBD? Isn’t that just weed?

The answer to this is yes and no. CBD is extracted from cannabis, but there is more to it than that. Let’s talk about it.

Cannabis plants, like hemp and marijuana, have a series of chemical compounds that are known as cannabinoids. These compounds are very diverse. So far, scientists have identified over 113 different cannabinoids, and there are likely more to be found. CBD is one of these compounds. It is definitely one of the more well-known cannabinoids. However, there is another one that is probably better known. That cannabinoid would be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC is so famous because of the effect that it has on its users. THC is psychoactive. That means that it creates an inebriating effect normally referred to as a “high.” This leads many people to believe that CBD has a similar, if not exactly the same, effect. However, this is not actually the case. CBD is not psychoactive and does not create any sort of high.

CBD manufacturers normally extract their CBD from hemp rather than marijuana. You may be thinking that those two are interchangeable, so it does not make a difference. In reality, hemp and marijuana are two different variations of cannabis. Hemp has high levels of CBD and low levels of THC (in fact, hemp or hemp products legally cannot have more than 0.3% THC content). Marijuana, on the other hand, has high levels of THC and varying levels of CBD. Another difference between the two kinds of cannabis lies in their legal statuses. Hemp was federally legalized in the United States in late 2018. Marijuana is still federally illegal, but some states have legalized it on some level, whether for medical or recreational use.

So, while CBD does come from cannabis, there is a lot more to it than that. In fact, there is a lot of interesting research that is being done on the cannabinoid.

What studies are being done on CBD?

In the last couple of decades researchers have become increasingly more interested in cannabinoids besides THC, CBD being one of their primary areas of focus. But what have they been looking at in connection to CBD specifically?

How it may be able to help you achieve a greater sense of calm

Despite the fact that CBD is not psychoactive, it could still have an effect on your state of mind. But this effect is not what one would consider a high. Many of the studies that have been looking at CBD have focused on its interactions with a nervous disposition. For example, this study had animal models go through a series of stressful tests. Some of the test subjects were given CBD, others were not. The subjects that were given the cannabinoid were found to have done better on the tests and handled them more calmly. Another study tested on humans. They had people with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) participate in public speaking. Some of the participants were given CBD, others were given a placebo. Those that were given CBD reported feeling less nervous when speaking than they normally would have. The subjects that were given the placebo reported no change in their anxiety.

How it may support joint health

Inflammation caused by any number of conditions could lead to discomfort and unhealthy joints, which in turn has an effect on one’s ability to move. The effect of CBD on these joint health related conditions has been looked at extensively. This study tested CBD against some collagen-induced arthritis in mice. The researchers gave the mice CBD of varying concentrations. They concluded that the cannabinoid at the right level could significantly help those struggling with collagen-induced arthritis. Another, more recent study wanted to see how CBD could help prevent nerve damage caused by osteoarthritis. They simulated the arthritis in rats, giving some of them CBD and others nothing. The rats that were given saw smaller amounts of nerve damage than those who were given nothing. These studies, among many others suggest that CBD could help support joint health against a few different conditions.

How it may support skin health

This particular benefit may sound a little odd considering the two listed above. However, there have been promising studies that have looked at the different ways that CBD may be able to help your skin. For example, this study found that CBD was able to help stem the production of sebum. This is important because sebum is the oil that your skin naturally produces to protect it. However, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Too much sebum can mix with dirt and other outside particles. This mixture then clogs up the pores creating acne. This means that CBD could help reduce the development of acne by helping keep sebum down.

How it may be able to aid with epileptic seizures

This particular area of interest with scientists has been very promising. So much so, that it led to the development of the first CBD-based medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but we will talk more about the at below. In the meantime, let’s go over some of the studies that have led to this. This study looked at CBD and epileptic seizures both in vitro (simulated using just cells) and in vivo (in an actual living creature). The researchers found that CBD was greatly able to help reduce the seizures in both the in vitro simulation and in the in vivo animal model. Another study surveyed the parents of children with epilepsy that were using CBD to help with their seizures. A majority of the parents (81.3%, to be exact) reported that they saw significant improvements in the number of seizures their child had after they started giving the child CBD.

These studies are just a sampling of the many, many studies that have been done and are currently being done on the cannabinoid. We here at Panacea Life Sciences encourage you to do some exploring. Check out other studies on reputable sites like PubMed to see what you can learn about CBD.

What options do I have for CBD?

CBD is not something that is overly complicated. However, when facing the choices that need to be made in regard to CBD products for the first time, it can seem like a lot. So, let’s talk about what options are out there for you to pick from when it comes to CBD. We will start with the kinds of CBD extract.

Full spectrum

The different kinds of CBD extract are categorized by what else is in the extract along with the CBD. Full spectrum, to start with, has the highest number of other compounds and cannabinoids in the extract. In fact, anything that comes out of the hemp plant with the CBD stays in the extract. This includes CBD, but as discussed above, it is not more than 0.3%, which is not enough to have any effect on a user.

Broad spectrum

Broad spectrum CBD extract is very similar to full spectrum. However, it does have one very important difference. Broad spectrum does not have any detectable THC. It has all of the other cannabinoids and compounds that may come with the CBD, but it has the THC removed to extremely low levels. These two kinds of CBD extract are appealing to many people because of a thing called the entourage effect. This is when compounds build on each other to create a stronger effect. Full and broad spectrum may be able to offer this.

CBD isolate

This is the purest version of CBD extract that you can find. It is what its name suggests. It is CBD isolated. There are no other compounds or cannabinoids in CBD isolate. Only the CBD. This form of CBD extract may not provide as strong of an effect as the other two kinds, because it does not provide the potential of the entourage effect. However, it may be able to provide a much clearer CBD experience.

Now that we have covered what kinds of CBD extract you can pick from, let’s talk about what kind of products you can find. Most of these products are offered in every kind of extract, so it should not be hard to find one that will work for you.

Tincture & oils

These are often thought of as the more traditional kind of CBD product. They are CBD extract that has been mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut or palm oil. You have a few options when it comes to taking these. You can mix the oil in with food or a drink and take it that way. However, the food or drink does need to digest before the CBD can start working, so they can take a while. You can also use the dropper to place the tincture directly into your mouth, under your tongue. The skin there is thin and allows the CBD to absorb into the system and start working much more quickly.

Edibles

CBD edibles are exactly what they sound like. They are food or drink that have been made with CBD. Much like when you mix an oil in with food, these do take the longest to start working. The food needs to be broken down before the CBD can enter the bloodstream and do its work. However, the effect of the CBD from edibles may last much longer than with other products.

Tablets & capsules

These are pill-like products that have been made with CBD. The tablets are similar to tinctures in that they are normally taken by placing them under the tongue. There they dissolve and the CBD enters the system from there. The capsules are usually soft gels meaning that they are made from liquid CBD extract. These take longer than tablets to start working because, like with edibles the capsule needs to digest before the CBD can be released and start working.

Topicals

This is a very broad category of CBD products. They are basically anything that you rub onto your skin that is made with CBD. This includes lotions, salves, balms, creams, and hand sanitizers. Topicals do not enter the bloodstream at all, unlike the other CBD products. They instead absorb through the pores of the skin, staying in the area that they are used. This tends to lead to a more localized, focused effect.

FDA-approved medications

There are a handful of CBD-based medications that have been approved by the FDA. The first one is Epidiolex, which is a medication that is aimed at helping ease the seizures that are caused by two different kinds of epilepsy. The other medications are all for helping with the nausea that often comes with most cancer treatments. These are the only CBD medications that FDA has approved so far. However, based on the studies above, there may be some more in the future.

Hopefully, this has given you a better idea of what kind of CBD extract and in which product you would want when shopping for the cannabinoid. Of course, there are subcategories within each of these bigger categories, but now it could be easier to narrow down what you are looking for.

As mentioned above, the examples given are exactly that, examples. There is a lot of research that has been done on CBD that was not talked about in this article. There is even more to be done. As time goes on, we are more than likely going to learn even more about the amazing potential that CBD could hold.

The tasty goodness of CBD edibles

If you are familiar with the world of cannabidiol (CBD), you have probably heard a lot about one product in particular: CBD edibles. If you have never tried an edible, you have likely wondered why everyone cares so much about them. The goal of this article is to educate you on CBD edibles, so that you can decide whether they are the product for you.

CBD? What is that?

If you are interested in CBD edibles, you should probably have at least an idea of what exactly CBD is, so let’s talk about it.

CBD is one of the over 113 different chemical compounds found in cannabis plants, like marijuana and hemp. These chemical compounds are called cannabinoids. CBD certainly is one of the best-known cannabinoids, but there is one that you like heard of long before you heard of CBD. That would be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The reason for THC’s fame is based primarily on its effect on its users. THC is psychoactive. That means that it creates an inebriating high. It is the reason why marijuana causes the high it does. It is widespread for people to think that because THC is psychoactive, so are all other cannabinoids. However, this is not the case. Most cannabinoids are not psychoactive, especially not CBD. CBD does not cause any sort of high or inebriation.

Even though hemp and marijuana are both cannabis plants, there are some significant differences between them. One is the different concentrations of specific cannabinoids. Marijuana has high levels of THC and varying degrees of CBD. This is why marijuana is usually considered a cannabis plant that will cause inebriation. Hemp has low THC (no more than 0.3%, which is not enough to create a high) and high levels of CBD. Another difference between them is based on legality. Hemp was officially legalized in the United States in 2018 by the Farm Bill. The bill made it legal for farmers to grow and sell CBD across the country (with exceptions in individual states). Marijuana is still federally illegal throughout the states, though some states have legalized it on one level or another. It is for these reasons that most CBD manufacturers use hemp to make their products rather than marijuana.

Why are CBD edibles so popular?

CBD is a pretty versatile extract, so it is easily made into many different products. However, the one that is the most popular has to be edibles. But why is that? What is so great about them? Let’s explore some of the reasons.

To start with, let’s just give a quick definition of what a CBD edible. You can probably guess that a CBD edible is any food or drink that has been made with CBD. These are pretty easily accessible at many stores, pharmacies, and cafes. You can even make your own, as we will talk about further below.

One of the main reasons is taste. Hemp tends to have a distinct, earthy flavor. Certain CBD products still have that flavor, despite CBD being an extract. For some, this is not a problem, as they enjoy or just do not mind the taste. However, for others, it can make a CBD product nearly unbearable. So, edibles are an excellent solution for these people, as the flavor of the food or drink typically overpower or mask the hemp’s taste.

Another reason why people love CBD edibles is based on control. Most edibles are made with the same amount of CBD in every serving. This makes it so you always know precisely how much CBD you are getting, and helps you be sure that you are not taking too much. Other CBD products can be a little bit harder to control. For example, drops are a great way to get CBD directly, but it is easy to accidentally get one drop too many with the dropper. Edibles provide a level of control that other products do not.

A third reason why edibles are so popular is that there are many choices. You can find CBD edibles in just about any food or drink you could want. Some companies make CBD crackers and pasta. Others make CBD sodas and sparkling water. Then, of course, there are the CBD candies, like gummies or chocolates. No matter what kind of food you like best, you can likely find a version with CBD in it. If not, you can add it yourself.

While all of these are great reasons to love CBD edibles, nothing is perfect. Edibles take the longest to start working out of all CBD products. This means that you do need to be prepared to wait at least half an hour to see if the CBD is working. However, edibles also are believed to have the longest-lasting effect, so there is a little bit of trade off with this downside.

What if I do not want to get my CBD through edibles?

That is perfectly understandable. Some people need their CBD to start working faster. Others would rather have their CBD provide a localized effect. Whatever your reason for wanting a different way to take your CBD, you have plenty of options. Let’s talk about some of them.

Topicals

These are anything that you use on your skin, instead of ingesting, that is made out of CBD. These are what you will want to look for if you prefer a localized effect rather than an overall effect. This is because the CBD in the topicals usually do not enter the bloodstream like they do with oral CBD products. Instead, they absorb through the pores and do their work from there.

FDA approved medications

Because the CBD industry is so new, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is still in the process of approving certain medications made from cannabinoids. So far, a handful of them has been approved. One of the big ones is Epidiolex, a pure CBD medicine aimed at helping lower the number of seizures experienced by those who have some rare forms of epilepsy. Another is Sativex, a mixture of CBD and another cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) Sativex is made to ease the painful spasticity that comes along with Multiple Sclerosis. The rest of the cannabinoid- based medicines that have been approved are prepared to help fight nausea that is a common side effect of some cancer treatments.

Tablets & capsules

Some people prefer to get their supplements in the form of pills. If this describes you, no worries. There are plenty of CBD products that are more pill like, namely sublingual tablets and soft gel capsules. Sublingual tablets are the faster option out of the two. This is because you place the tablet under your tongue and allow it to dissolve. The skin under the tongue is thin, which allows the CBD to absorb into the system faster. The soft gel capsules are the most pill-like out of the two, as they are just capsules that you swallow whole. While the fact that they are soft gel means that they digest and start working faster than regular pills, they still need to digest before they can begin working. This makes them slower than tablets.

Oils & tinctures

If you are looking for a more straightforward CBD product, then oils and tinctures are the options. These are CBD extracts that have been placed in a carrier oil, like coconut oil, for example. You have a few choices in how you take these. One we mentioned briefly above. It is mixing the oil in with food or drink. This is similar to an edible; the only difference is that you have more control over how much CBD oil is put into food or drink. As a result, you do need to wait for the drink or food to digest before the CBD can start working. The other option is by placing a drop or two directly under your tongue. Like tablets, this is a fast way to get your CBD serving as the cannabinoid absorbs through the thin skin under your tongue.

When you put all of the reasons in the above sections together, it is not surprising that people love CBD edibles. They are comfortable and delicious to take and still give you all the benefits of CBD. So, if you are new to CBD, why not try an edible to start with? It could be a great introduction to the world of CBD.

Organic V.S. Non-Organic CBD

There is far too much controversy when it comes to organic products. We are here to put the nay-sayers to bed when it comes to organic cannabidiol (CBD) products. CBD products can be found far and wide, but what makes a CBD product good? What can you use it for? And, of course, what products are out here for you to choose from? All of these questions and more will be answered to our highest knowledge in this article.

Let’s begin with: What is CBD?

CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis sativa plant is naturally found and comes in a variety of variations. One of those variations is the marijuana plant and you have likely heard of this particular plant because of the psychoactive property or cannabinoid known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This cannabinoid is the one that most people are familiar with. This is because THC causes a ‘high’ in users. Because of this ‘high’ the growing and selling of marijuana is not legal in all 50 states. However, some states have legalized this for recreational as well as medicinal purposes.

The hemp plant, another variation of cannabis, is a different story. Hemp contains a high amount of CBD and lower than 0.3% THC and therefore cannot give you those psychoactive feelings. As of 2018 with the Farm Bill, the growing and selling of the hemp plant has been federally legalized throughout the states. Therefore, products that are derived from the hemp plant (AKA CBD products) are legal and ready to potentially help you.

Organic versus Non-Organic

We here at Panacea Life Sciences are committed to giving you the highest quality CBD there is. And we have determined that the highest quality CBD we can offer is natural CBD. So, what does that mean? Organic products are highly regulated and must obtain a USDA certificate in order to express that their products are actually organic. Organic certification means that products have minimal processes, contain no artificial ingredients, limits the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers and the manufacturer has passed certification inspections. Natural products on the other hand, is not a regulated term and therefore companies can decide what they deem natural. Generally natural means less processing and no artificial ingredients.  Our products are natural and will often come with natural variations like changes in color or ingredients that have settled differently. There should be no fear when it comes to our natural products. With all the testing we do, our CBD is of amazing quality with our Colorado grown hemp.

Our Products: the natural way

Now that you understand a bit more about Organic, non-organic and natural products. Here are a few of ours that you could choose from.

Vapes: Panacea Life Sciences does not advocate for the use of CBD vapes, but it is an option. One inhaled the CBD is absorbed into the lungs and then into the bloodstream.

Topicals: CBD in topical forms such as lotions, salves, creams and even hand sanitizer are quite popular. These are best used liberally and often. CBD topical typically do not reach the bloodstream but you are able to reap the benefits because it absorbs into the skin from pores.

Softgels: These are similar to edibles as they go through the same process to get into the bloodstream. But they are swallowed like a pill instead of chewed.

Edibles: This type of CBD is a pleasant and fun way to get CBD daily. After eating, the edible travels to the stomach where it is broken down and then is absorbed through the stomach lining and into the bloodstream. This way of administering CBD takes longer to feel the effects but has been described to last longer.

Tinctures: This type of CBD is an oil like substance that is generally placed under the tongue. From there it enters the bloodstream through the mouth. This is an easy way to get a daily amount of CBD into your system. This is also one of the fastest ways.

Tablets: Tablets are similar to tinctures as to where they are administered. The tablet dissolves in your mouth and then reaches the bloodstream from there.

Now that you know about your options. Why should you take CBD?

Here are a few reasons why:

Promote a sense of calm: Promoting a sense of calm in those who have feelings of anxiousness may be quite helpful to some. In this study, they used brain imaging to test subjects who have SAD (social anxiety disorder). Those who were given the CBD showed a decrease in their social anxiety disorder via brain scans. Those who did not receive the CBD did not have any decrease.

Anti-inflammatory properties: CBD has been researched for the possibility of joint health benefits. Panacea Life Sciences has done our own research regarding this aspect. We looked at dogs who are older and have joint health issues. During this study, we asked pet owners to administer CBD to their dogs two times a day for four consecutive weeks. The owners were to take a weekly test to show if anything had improved. At the end of the four weeks pet owners described their dogs to be more mobile. Therefore, the CBD may have helped with their joint health!

Skin health: Although CBD topicals usually never reach the bloodstream this does not mean that they cannot assist in skin health. In this study they concluded that those with and without skin conditions had improved skin health after the use of CBD topicals. They used several tests to test before and after the use of a CBD topical. Their evidence was enhanced by photographic evidence.

FDA approved medications: There are several FDA approved medications that contain CBD. Epidiolex is the most well-known. This medication helps those with two severe types of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. There are also a handful of others containing both CBD and THC that assist those going through anti-cancer treatments and the nausea it may cause. These are called Marinol (dronabinol), Syndros (dronabinol), and Cesamet (nabilone). These medications can only be prescribed by a healthcare professional.

So, organic or non-organic? It is truly up to you. We suggest taking a look at each ingredient on the list of the product you are looking at. This way you may be able to choose which type of CBD is the best choice for you.

Are there any side effects of CBD oil?

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil and other CBD products have become widely popular with people seeking an alternative treatment for a variety of illnesses, disorders, and diseases.

Cannabis plants contain a group of substances known as cannabinoids. Though there are more than 113 cannabinoids, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and CBD are the two most studied cannabinoids.

THC is a psychoactive compound, responsible for much of the inebriating effects or the and the high frequently associated with cannabis use. CBD is not psychoactive.

In 2018 the United States federally legalized hemp, and as a result CBD oil is rapidly increasing around the United States. CBD comes in various forms, such as CBD gummies, CBD capsules, and under-the-tongue CBD tablets. Some claim that CBD oil may relieve ache, reduce anxiety, and increase appetite in the same way as marijuana does. CBD has also shown success in the treatment of other forms of seizures. In this article, we discuss the most popular benefits and common side effects of CBD oil. Let’s have a look!

Benefits of CBD Oil

May help with discomfort issues: In this comprehensive study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine reviewed more than 10,000 clinical reports on Cannabis’s medicinal benefits. This study found out that the use of medicinal cannabis may be able to help chronic discomfort. It is a significant reason for disability, affecting over 25 million people in the United States.

Promote a sense of calm: CBD oil may a sense of calm in those who have feelings of anxiousness may be quite helpful to some. In this study, they used brain imaging to test the people who had SAD (social anxiety disorder). Those who were given the CBD showed social anxiety disorder during the brain scans. Those who did not receive the CBD did not have any decrease.

Anti-inflammatory properties: CBD has been researched for the possibility of joint health benefits. Panacea Life Sciences has done our own research regarding this aspect. We looked at dogs who are elderly and have joint health issues. During this study, Panacea Life Sciences asked pet owners to give CBD to their dogs 2 times a day for 4 weeks. The owners were asked to take a test weekly to show if any symptoms had gotten better. At the end of the 4 weeks, pet owners said their dogs were more active. Therefore, the CBD oil may have helped with their joint health!

Side Effects of CBD Oil

CBD is generally considered safe and well-tolerated, but it may cause adverse reactions in some individuals when taken at very high doses. Also, the severity and type of side effects may vary from individual to individual.

Its common side effects are:

CBD oil may increase liver enzymes (a marker of hepatic inflammation). People with liver disease should be vigilant when using CBD oil, preferably under the supervision of a doctor who can monitor the blood liver enzyme levels regularly.

CBD oil use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be avoided. A 2018 report published by the American Academy of Pediatrics urged women to avoid cannabis during pregnancy because of the possible threats to a child’s health.

While all of CBD’s effects are still unknown, CBD is known to move through the placental barrier. When you consider using CBD oil to treat a health problem, be sure to speak to your health care provider and make sure it’s the best treatment for you.

How Is It Made?

CBD oil is typically obtained from the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD is extracted from the leaves, stems, flowers, and stalks of mature hemp plants, not the seeds. Several methods can be used to extract CBD oil, such as ethanol, carbon dioxide, and olive oil. The type of extraction plays a vital role in the quality of CBD oil.

Conclusion

CBD may have the answers to most of the health issues, whether you want to become calmer or you want your joint health improved. The high-quality CBD plant and CBD products are readily available at Panacea Life Sciences.

CBD edibles: What’s the big deal?

You have probably seen cannabidiol (CBD) products in plenty of places. Some of them were perhaps expected, in pharmacies or holistic shops. But there are likely a few other places that you were surprised to see a CBD product, like a coffee shop or a grocery store. In these places, they were probably things like pastries or snacks with a label that said they had CBD. Those were CBD edibles, and they are a massive deal in the CBD world. But why is that exactly? What benefits do they offer?

First thing’s first: a definition of CBD

It is probably best to talk about what CBD even is before we can talk about why it is so prevalent in good form. So, let’s lay down that groundwork.

CBD is a member of a specific class of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. These compounds are very commonly found in cannabis plants, especially marijuana and hemp. They are very diverse, with over 113 different cannabinoids that scientists have identified so far. CBD is not likely to be the only cannabinoid that you have ever heard of. There is another one that is arguably more famous. That would be tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The reason for THC’s fame lies mainly in its effect on those who use it. THC is what is known as psychoactive. This means that it creates the inebriating high that is so commonly thought to go hand-in-hand with cannabis. People often think that being a cannabinoid automatically makes CBD psychoactive as well. However, this is not the case. CBD does not give any sort of high or inebriation. It is not psychoactive in any way.

When CBD manufactures extract the cannabinoid, they usually use hemp instead of marijuana. There are a few good reasons for this. One is that marijuana has high levels of THC and varying degrees of CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, has high levels of CBD and only 0.3% THC content. This makes hemp ideal for CBD extraction because not only is there plenty of CBD but also because the THC content is not high enough to cause any sort of psychoactive effect.

Another reason why CBD manufacturers prefer hemp is based on legality. As of 2018, hemp is legal in the United States (within limits in individual states). This is a result of the Farm Bill. The Farm Bill is a law that must be reviewed, updated, and passed every five years again. It controls everything to do with agriculture in the country, including what farmers can and cannot grow and sell. The 2018 version of the bill included a provision that officially legalized hemp. Marijuana, meanwhile, is still federally illegal. This is based mainly on the fact that THC is still considered a dangerous drug by the United States government. A handful of states have legalized marijuana, some for medical use, others for recreational.

As CBD has gained in popularity, the number of studies on the cannabinoid has gone up. This has led to a greater understanding of what CBD may be able to do for those who use it. For example, some studies have suggested that CBD may help people achieve a greater sense of calm. At the same time, others have shown promising results for CBD helping maintain joint health. These are just a couple of examples of what research has been focusing on. The research done on CBD may still be preliminary, but it is diverse.

What is so great about CBD edibles?

CBD extract is versatile and can be easily made into any number of products. But despite this, CBD edibles are one of the most popular kinds of CBD out there. But why is this? Well, let’s talk about the pros and cons of taking CBD through edibles.

One of the biggest draws when it comes to CBD edibles is the flavor. Some CBD extracts have a bit of the earthy taste of hemp. While many people do not mind this or like it, others cannot stand it. So, edibles are a good option for them since they provide them with a chance to get CBD’s benefits with a flavor they enjoy.

Another draw is the ease that edibles provide in knowing how much CBD you have taken. CBD edibles are usually made with the same amount of CBD in each edible. This is nice because some of the other CBD products can take control of a little bit difficult. It is easy to accidentally put drop too many CBD oil drops when administering with a dropper.

The one drawback of edibles is how long they can take for the CBD to start working. Since the CBD is made into the food, the food needs to digest before the CBD can enter your bloodstream and begin its work. This means that you may need to wait up to an hour to feel the CBD effects. However, edibles are also considered to have the longest-lasting impact. So, there is a little bit of trade-off with them.

These are some of the main reasons why people prefer CBD edibles. But of course, some people like them just because they are fun. After all, who doesn’t love the idea of getting your CBD from candy or a cookie?

What are other kinds of CBD products out there?

As you can see, edibles are an excellent option for a lot of people. But that does not mean that they are perfect for everyone. Here are a list and descriptions of some of the other kinds of CBD products out there.

Oils & tinctures

These are among the more straightforward CBD products out there. They are CBD extract mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut oil, for example. Many people prefer tinctures because they provide them with options on how to take the product. One way is by mixing the oil or tincture in with food or drink. This makes it much like having your own homemade CBD edible. And like with edibles, you need to wait for the food or drink to digest before the CBD can start working. Another way to take a tincture or oil is by placing a drop or two directly into your mouth. The appeal of this is that the skin under your tongue is thin and allows for the CBD to absorb into your system quickly and easily.

Capsules & tablets

Some people prefer to get their CBD from more pill-like products. If you think that describes you, you should keep an eye out for tablets and capsules. CBD capsules are the most like a traditional pill. The one difference is that they tend to be soft gels. That means that they are made out of liquid CBD extract. This makes it, so they digest a bit faster, allowing the CBD to start working more quickly. Tablets are a little bit different. Most CBD tablets are sublingual. That means that instead of swallowing them whole, you place them under your tongue and dissolve. As mentioned above, the skin under the tongue is thin so that CBD can absorb through it quickly.

FDA approved medications

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a handful of different CBD-based medicines in the last few years. The first one was Epidiolex, which is a medication that is aimed at helping fight epileptic seizures. Another major one is called Sativex. This medication is made to help keep down the spasticity that is a common side effect of MS. The rest of the CBD-based medicines approved by the FDA are mainly made to help deal with nausea, which is a common side effect of cancer treatments.

Topicals

This is probably the broadest category of CBD products. It includes anything that you use on your skin that has been made with CBD. They can be lotions, salves, balms, hand sanitizers, and, even, K-tape. Topicals are not likely to give you the same overall effect that you may get from other CBD products. This is because the CBD in them usually does not enter the bloodstream as it does with oral products. Instead, it absorbs in through the pores, staying where it is initially placed to do its work.

CBD edibles are one of the more popular CBD products out there right now, but who is to say what CBD product will be grabbing people’s eyes in a few years? The CBD industry has recently put out some exciting products, and it will likely put out more as time goes on. In the meantime, enjoy that CBD cookie or those CBD chips and keep an eye out for further developments in the CBD world as they come.

CBD is a cannabinoid, derived from the cannabis plant. CBD acts together with an inner system which is named the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is in charge of upholding inner harmony and stability within our bodies. The Endocannabinoid system is composed of receptors and cannabinoids; this is how CBD interacts with the body.

CBD Gummies

There are numerous types of CBD products available worldwide, but the most popular and handy product among all is CBD gummies. People are living through different benefits of CBD via CBD gummies. CBD gummies do not have large amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD gummies go through lots of lab tests to make sure that people will experience the highest quality, premium gummies. Distinct from other gummies around the world, many CBD gummies features broad-spectrum CBD extract, which means you will get the best combination of cannabinoids and terpenes, excluding THC.

Well, if you have never experienced CBD gummies or any edibles, here we put together some essential tips that will convince you to try these gummies!

Soothe Sticks and CBD

CBD has been making waves since the passing of the 2018 Farm BillIt’s been making splashes on the covers of magazines from fashion to cooking to health. It didn’t just leak into the consumer market like some slow-moving dribble—it flooded the consumer market, and it is here to STAY.

One facet of the CBD market that has gained substantial popularity is topicals, which is the umbrella term for one form of CBD usage defined by its application…that is, topically, to the body. Under this umbrella falls a range of products addressing equally numerous groups of concerns. One such topical that has recently snagged our attention here at Panacea Life Science is the innovative, efficient soothe stick.

But before we dive in (you didn’t think I was done with the water metaphor, did you?), let’s get a little background information to help us fully understand what makes these soothe sticks, especially magically.

All About Cannabidiol

Cannabidiol, known affectionately as CBD, is 1 of over 480 naturally occurring chemical compounds derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. To break it down even further, it is 1 of over 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. What distinguishes cannabinoids from the rest is their ability to interact with receptor cells in our brain in a meaningful way. Another well-known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol, infamously known as THC. The significant difference between the two, and the reason Congress finally decided to legalize CBD derived from hemp in 2018, is that THC is psychoactive while CBD is not. This means that how THC interacts with your brain induces a euphoric, sometimes disorienting intoxication, often referred to as a “high.” CBD, being non-psychoactive, does not produce significantly alter one’s state of mind. For a CBD product to be legal, it must contain no more than 0.3% THC. However, just because it can’t get you high doesn’t mean it has no meaningful effects.

CBD is known to invoke feelings of calm, relaxation, and an overall lift in mood. It has also been shown to offer some other health benefits, which researchers have been. It is currently studying more to find out just how legitimate and valid these benefits may be. Feelings of discomfort have been a focal point of many studies and personal explorations of perceptions of discomfort management among the everyday individual. While many choose to ingest their CBD, whether that means administering a few drops of oil under their tongue or munching down on some yummy edibles, others turn to topicals.

All About Topicals

As we’ve already established, topicals are applied topically. Shocker, I know. Topicals are products you are well familiar with, such as lotions, balms, salves, creams, and more. They mainly consist of some combination of fat, wax, oil, extracts, and, of course, CBD oil. They can be used to manage or relieve acne, inflammation, sunburn, psoriasis, and several other skin conditions and feelings of discomfort related issues.

What sets topicals apart from other forms of CBD is that it does not require one to ingest their CBD to reap some of its benefits. Instead, one can simply apply their CBD directly to the localized area of concern and target issues head-on without having to worry about the possible side effects associated with CBD, like fatigue, diarrhea, dry mouth, loss of appetite, and the risk of blood-thinning when combined with other medications. Moreover, since quite little is known about CBD’s long-term effects, choosing not to ingest it bypasses any chances of the unknown.

As with anything, certain topicals may be more effective at targeting specific issues. One such topical has become an ideal and convenient option for a multitude of them. Can you guess which that might be?

All About Soothe Sticks

Excellent work, you are correct! Soothe sticks are basically how they sound. They come in stick form, similar to a deodorant stick or a giant Chapstick, and are used to soothe specific ailments. Like other topicals, Soothe Sticks typically combine CBD extract, essential oils, fats/oils (such as shea butter or avocado oil), and wax (such as soy or beeswax). However, stick topicals more likely have a denser wax content to achieve the ideal consistency for applying directly onto the body. Lotions, creams, and salves will have a higher oil content, or less dense wax content, to create the pourable, spreadable consistency we’re all familiar with.

CBD Soothe sticks may be a potential fast-acting option for those seeking to help relieve muscle, joint, and back feelings of discomfort as it contains methyl and methyl lactateIn addition to the CBD’s inflammatory properties, the other ingredients of the Soothe Stick typically yield a “cooling” effect.  Just massage the soothe stick gently to the temples and breathe in the aromatic scents of clarifying eucalyptus, calming lavender…sounds like a spa day.

All About Safety

As mentioned, topicals are lovely because they provide targeted relief without the risk of side effects associated with ingesting CBD. That being said, side effects can also be experienced when anything new is applied directly to the body. Although they are quite rare, skin irritation is possible. This is particularly dependent upon the unique ingredients in the soothe stick of choice. As always, it is important to speak with a medical professional when considering integrating a new method into your health and wellness routine to make sure the product you’re using is of good quality and suits your individual needs and sensitivities.

While Panacea Life Science’s does not have a soothe stick in their shop at the moment (hint, hint “at the moment”), we do have our very own topicals that could provide similar effects—and with us, the quality is always guaranteed.

How do I decide on the right CBD edible for me?

As cannabidiol (CBD) becomes more and more popular, there is one particular CBD product that seems to come to the forefront of CBD’s popularity. That would be edibles. But how do people decide on what CBD edible for them? Well, here is a guide to help you with your shopping.

A quick overview of CBD

It is best to know what CBD is when you are looking at any CBD product. After all, you are going to want to see what you are buying. So, here is a brief definition of this compound.

CBD is one of over 113 different kinds of chemical compounds found in cannabis plants. These compounds are classified as cannabinoids. As mentioned, there are many of them out there, but it is unlikely that CBD is the only one you have heard of. The most famous cannabinoid is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC’s fame is a result of how it affects those you use it. THC is what is known as psychoactive. That means that it creates the inebriation that is more commonly referred to as a high. It is a fairly common mistake to believe that all cannabinoids, including CBD, are psychoactive. However, they are not. THC is one of only a few of psychoactive cannabinoids. CBD is not a member of that group. It does not create any inebriation or high

You may be wondering about CBD’s legal status. After all, it is found in cannabis plants, which are often illegal. However, this should not be a concern. CBD is usually extracted from hemp rather than marijuana. As of 2018 CBD obtained from industrial hemp became federally legal in the United States. This is because of that year’s Farm Bill which legalized hemp for growth and sale across the country (with restrictions in individual states). Hemp’s legalization is based mainly on the fact that hemp has very low levels of THC (less than 0.3%). So low that it cannot get its users high. This is different from marijuana because marijuana has very high THC levels, which is why it is still federally illegal but has been legalized on some level in a handful of states.

What kinds of CBD edibles are there?

If you are interested in CBD edibles but are new to them, it is understandable to want to have an idea of what you are looking for before you go buying. So, let’s talk about what some of the options that you have are when it comes to purchasing CBD.

The main thing to know is how you feel about the flavor of hemp. There is a chance you already know how you feel about it, as it is a very distinctive flavor. Some enjoy the earthy flavor of CBD, some do not mind one way or another, and others despise it. While most of the food that CBD edibles are made into has flavors strong enough to cover the taste of hemp, there are still some that allow the flavor to come through. This is also affected by what kind of CBD extract the edible is made out of. CBD edibles made with full or broad-spectrum CBD extracts are more likely to have the hemp flavor. This is because these extracts still have cannabinoids known as terpenes, they are what give hemp its flavor. CBD isolate is going to lack the flavor, as this extract is only CBD, which lacks a natural flavor.

Once you figure that aspect out, then you need to decide what food you want your edible to come in. You can find CBD edibles in just about any form. There are CBD bread, drinks, cookies, and gummies. So, pick your favorite food, and you will likely be able to get a dose of CBD in it.

How much CBD is enough for me?

This is an excellent question to ask about any new dietary supplement you may be taking. However, there is no solid answer for this. Everyone has slightly different reactions to CBD, and as of yet, there is no set formula for people to follow to find the right amount of cannabinoid for them. So, it takes some testing of your own to find out how much CBD you need. But before we can talk about the right way to do that, we need to talk about what may happen if you take too much.

CBD is generally considered safe for most people. However, that does not mean that it is without harmful side effects. These usually include things like gastrointestinal upset and mild nausea, among other things. These side effects are more often associated with taking too much of the cannabinoid. As a result, they tend to be pretty easy to avoid for most people as long as they know how much they need. So, how do you go about finding that out?

The best way to find out the right amount of CBD for you is by doing it slowly and carefully. Start the smallest amount possible with edibles that maybe just half of a serving. Then wait a little while to see how the CBD sits with you. Remember that edibles do take a little while to start working, as the food needs to digest before the CBD can enter your system. If an hour or so passes with no adverse side effects, but no positive ones either, you can try taking a little more. Once you find the lowest amount that gives you the impact you are looking for without any adverse side effects, you know you have found the right amount of CBD for you.

It is vital to know that CBD and certain medications do not work well together. There are some medications that either do not work as well or stop working entirely when mixed with CBD. If you are interested in starting to use CBD but are taking medications, be sure first to discuss it with a healthcare professional.

Hopefully, this blog has given you a better idea of what to look for when shopping for a CBD edible. Of course, it could help experiment, try a few different kinds of edibles, and see which one you like best. There are many options out there; there are bound to be more than a few that could be perfect for you.

CBD benefits when you least expect them

There are many questions regarding CBD (cannabidiol) and its use. The popularity of CBD and CBD products has increased significantly throughout the past few years (although it has been around far longer than that). But what are the benefits? When can you expect them? Where can you expect them? Here at Panacea Life Sciences we are committed to giving you the highest quality products as well as the highest quality information. This article will attempt to answer these questions and hopefully give you the information that you need to start or continue your journey with CBD. But first, let us start with the bare minimum basics that you should know before beginning.

What? CBD? What is that?

We should start at the beginning. What is CBD? What is it not?

CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis sativa plant (generally known as cannabis) is a naturally found plant that comes in a handful of variations. We will be talking about two of those today, the hemp plant and the marijuana plant. The marijuana plant is the one you have likely heard or read about more. This plant has a high percentage of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). This is another cannabinoid found in all Cannabis sativa plants.

THC gives users a ‘high’ or euphoric feeling. This feeling causes an inebriation of sorts and because of this the marijuana plant and use of THC products is not legal in all fifty of the United States. Some states have legalized the use of marijuana plants for recreational and/or medical purposes, even though THC is federally illegal. It is important to understand the laws in your state before using these products.

The hemp plant, however, is federally legal!  Some states have laws that limit the production and sale of CBD, so please check your local regulations.! This is because of the 2018 Farm Bill. This bill allows farmers across the U.S. to grow and sell hemp products. Why, you may ask, is this hemp plant not illegal? This is because the amount of THC in a hemp plant is .3% or less. This amount of THC cannot give users a ‘high’ effect and CBD does not have that effect at all. CBD, however, has started to gain more researchers’ attention as it may have some health effects that one may benefit from.

How do people benefit from CBD?

So, how are people benefiting from using CBD? To answer this question, we must know the different uses of CBD. Here is a list:

These are just a few of the potential benefits that CBD has to offer us humans. There still needs to be plenty of research to further understand CBD and other offers it has for us.

CBD: The Products

Now that you can see the potential benefits that CBD may have to offer you. What type of products are out there? Here are a few that we are experts in:

How do companies get CBD into the product? What is extraction?

You may have asked this question while reading the section above, you may not have. But we believe that it is beneficial to understand where your CBD comes from and how it is put into your products. The process in which CBD is taken from the hemp plant is called extraction. There are several different extraction methods that are used. Here are the three most popular ones to be aware of.

The potential benefits of CBD are similar across all extractions methods. These may be a bit difficult to understand but knowing how your CBD is extracted from the hemp plant is important. If you prefer one of these methods over the other, make sure that the company you purchase your CBD from has that method. It is also important to make sure that the CBD goes through many tests to ensure their quality.

We here at Panacea Life Sciences test our products thoroughly before they hit the shelves. We test our products, so they are of the highest quality. We test for potency, toxins, microbials, terpenes, and solvents to ensure pure products.

What do these tests entail? What do they mean?

How and where do you start?

Hopefully, you now understand what CBD is and the potential CBD benefits that you may receive from using the product. Now, where do you start? We suggest starting with a small amount of CBD into your daily life. This is easiest with a tincture, but you can try it with other products as well. Once you feel comfortable, increase the amount, and go from there. Try out different products to see which would work best for you. Making sure that you are getting the right CBD is important too. Do your research and be safe! If a company has not given you the label connected to the product it is possible that it is not a quality product. You can find CBD in stores, at a dispensary (they have CBD only dispensaries), or, the most popular way of shopping now-a-days, online! Perhaps you will see the potential benefits of CBD when you least expect them. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

Why Chew Your CBD? Everything you need to know about CBD Edibles.

There are so many new fads surrounding holistic health now-a-days and some seem unrealistic. This may be how you feel about CBD (cannabidiol). Aalthough we do understand your hesitation, we have got all the knowledge available to that may change your mind. There are many different types of CBD products available. One of the more popular is a CBD edible. What is an edible? Does it taste like the plant it comes from? Who can use edibles? These are all great questions and we have got the answers. If you want to learn more about CBD and edibles that have CBD in them, read on.

What is CBD?

So, what even is CBD? CBD is one the 113 cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis sativa plant is a naturally found plant that comes in a variety of variations. One of these varieties is the hemp plant. As of 2018 the hemp plant has been federally approved and it is legal for farmers across the country to grow and sell the hemp plant. The marijuana plant, however, is still federally illegal and considered a controlled substance. has not been legalized in all 50 states. This is because marijuana contains high amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and lower amounts of CBD. THC is the competent that is often confused with CBD, but they are two different things. THC gives users a ‘high’ or a psychoactive effect. This is one of the reasons that marijuana is not legal in all states, however it is legal in a handful of states for recreational as well as medicinal purposes. CBD is legal as long as it contains at or less than 0.3% of THC. This percentage cannot get a user ‘high’ as it is too low. So, no, CBD will not get you ‘high’, but it may have other potential positive effects.

Edible? What is that?

An edible is just one of the many types of products that are available to purchase. Edibles come in many different forms. There are gummy candies, chocolates, or even baked goods! There are many ways to get CBD into something that you ingest. We here at Panacea Life Sciences carry CBD Cherry Bomb Gummies! These are an easy way to get CBD into your system every day. Edibles have been described to take a bit longer than other products to feel the effect but tend to last a bit longer. Once you chew a CBD edible it goes through the digestive system to end up in the stomach. From there it is broken down and the CBD is absorbed through the lining in the stomach and then directly into the bloodstream. Other products are processed differently. Here is a list of different products you can use.

Because there are so many different products to choose from you should try out a few to see which works best for you! As a rule of thumb, take a smaller amount of CBD then slowly increase the amount until you feel the desired effects. But why do people use CBD?

Reasons to use CBD

There are many reasons why people choose to use CBD. Maybe one of these reasons is exactly why you are looking for CBD.

These are just a few reasons that we have found for why people choose to use CBD. It is important to do your own research to find the reason why you would like to try CBD. Something that is equally important is the way in which the CBD is put into the CBD product.

What is Extraction?

Extraction is the process in which companies take the Hemp plant and remove the CBD from it to add into various products. This is important because if the CBD is not properly extracted it may leave harmful substances that you do not want in your product. Here are some popular extraction methods to look for.

Carbon dioxide extraction:  Carbon dioxide is used to extract the CBD from the plant by using “supercritical” which, in simple terms means, using both carbon dioxide liquid and gas properties to extract. This is why carbon dioxide extraction is often known as Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE). In the beginning of the extraction, two different pressurized chambers are used. One, with the carbon dioxide, while the other contains the hemp plant. Then the chamber filled with carbon dioxide is pressurized and cooled to create liquid CO2.  This is then pumped into the second chamber containing the hemp, where it infuses the hemp plant to solubilize the hemp oil allowing separation of the oil from the plant matter.  The CO2 hemp oil mixture is then pumped into a third chamber where the carbon dioxide is evaporated, leaving behind pure CBD oil .

The mixture is then pumped into a third chamber where the carbon dioxide is evaporated, leaving the CBD oil unaccompanied.

Steam distillation: In this process, the steam separates the CBD oil from the plant itself. The hemp is placed in a separate container while a boiler is full of water beneath the hemp. Once boiling, the steam from the water travels upward to extract the CBD oil as a vapor from the hemp plant. The vapor from the plant is then trapped in a tube and added to oil or water. After this is collected, the oil is extracted from the water to make an oil. This process works well but requires a lot of the hemp plant and if the steam gets too hot it may damage the CBD oil extract.

Solvent extraction (hydrocarbons and natural solvents):  This process is similar to the Steam Distillation extraction method. But, in this process one would use a type of solvent rather than water. The solvent and CBD oil are combined and then the solvent is extracted leaving the CBD behind. There are two types of solvents used: hydrocarbons and natural solvents. Some solvents that can be used include naphtha, petroleum, butane, or propane for hydrocarbon extraction.  Natural extraction will use food-grade ethanol to extract the hemp oil.  Following extraction the ethanol is removed by heat leaving a rich solvent- free hemp oil.

This is the least preferred type of extraction because it has been found to leave unwanted elements after the solvents have been extracted. These elements could be including naphtha, petroleum, butane, or propane for hydrocarbon extraction.

Now, this is unlikely the first thing you will look for when purchasing CBD but keep it in mind because it could make or break a CBD product.

What is the difference between CBD Isolate and Full Spectrum?

It may seem like all cannabidiol (CBD) products are the same, but that is not the case. There are multiple types of products extracted from cannabis, and each product is useful in its way. The most common and famous forms of CBD products are CBD isolate and full-spectrum CBD. In this article, we discuss the differences between CBD isolate and full-spectrum CBD to help you figure out which would suit the best to your health issue. Let’s go through this together!

What Is Full-Spectrum CBD?

In addition to CBD, cannabis plants consist of hundreds of different chemical compounds including, flavonoids, terpenes, and other phytocannabinoids. The hemp plants used to make CBD products are a particular Cannabis sativa strain that contains low tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels and high CBD levels.

Full-spectrum CBD oil is the final extract containing a full profile of cannabinoids – including a variety of terpenes, up to 0.3% THC, in addition to the CBD.

Making of Full-Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD oil is extracted only slightly, leaving many of the phytochemicals intact and healthy. This is due to most manufacturers opting for a whole-plant extraction process that helps to collect from the entire plant a more extensive range of cannabinoids, rather than just the buds and flowers.

The extraction of the entire plant uses a solvent to remove the compounds from the raw hemp plant material. The resulting thick resinous oil undergoes a winterization cycle to eliminate the fatty and waxy components, accompanied by a short-path distillation to purify the extract.

Usually, full-spectrum CBD oil is mixed with some sort of carrier oil; this way, it tastes better and has higher bioavailability.

Uses and Benefits for Full-Spectrum CBD

One of the appeals of full-spectrum CBD is how CBD interacts with other cannabinoids and compounds.

Full-spectrum CBD has pretty much all of the other cannabinoids and compounds that come out of the hemp plant during the extraction. They work together on the endocannabinoid system synergistically through a process known as the “Entourage Effect” This principle applies to how the effects of cannabinoids and terpenes on the body are intensified and increased by one another.

What Is CBD Isolate?

Isolate is the purest form of CBD, typically present at 99% concentrations. CBD Isolate is commonly referred to as pure CBD. It comes in a solid, crystalline structure that is easily dissolvable in a variety of carriers but can also be used as a sublingually taken stand-alone product.

Extraction of CBD Isolate

Once the entire plant has harvested full-spectrum CBD oil, it undergoes more refining to remove the other cannabinoids and compounds from the extract.

There are different ways to extract CBD, but fractional distillation and further organic extraction is one of the main methods used. The CBD Full Spectrum Oil is further refined or distilled.  Fractal distillation enriches the CBD content by using heat to extract terpenes and THC with a boiling point lower than CBD.  The enriched CBD distillate is then mixed with an organic solvent to cause the CBD to precipitate out of solution.  The resulting crystal is washed to remove any residual solvents leaving behind >99% pure CBD.

Uses and Benefits for CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is suitable for people who are not fond of the natural cannabinoid taste of CBD full-spectrum products. CBD isolate is the perfect ingredient for CBD edibles and skincare products due to its purity and lack of flavor. It lets you potentially enjoy the full benefits of CBD without THC’s potential complications.

Because isolated CBD contains no detectable THC if you are subject to regular occupational drug testing, you can safely take products containing isolation minimizing the possibility of testing positive for THC

Another advantage, sometimes cited by consumers, is faster dosing. Most people use CBD isolate as the purity of the drug helps them get a more reliable CBD dose. However, other users say that higher amounts of CBD separate work just about as well as lower costs of full-spectrum CBD.

Which Type of CBD Works the Best?

Both kinds of CBD extracts are reported to work well what you need to decide, as a potential user is, which seems to be the best option for you. Think over the information given and decide. You should be able to find most kinds of CBD products made with either of the extracts.

How to Know Which CBD You Are Using?

Trustworthy CBD vendors should explicitly mark their items as either full spectrum or CBD isolate. Those vendors should also be able to provide test reports from third parties.

This testing method uses an independent laboratory to check the profile of cannabinoids, so you can see exactly how much CBD and THC are in your drug, as well as the overall phytochemical rates.

Conclusion

Regardless of whether you go for CBD isolate or full-spectrum CBD, the best way to enjoy CBD’s calming benefits is to determine the correct dose of CBD for your body. Choose CBD products offering accurate measurements and easy dosing instructions. Make sure to buy CBD products only from trustworthy vendors, like Panacea Life Sciences – this platform provides the best and high-quality CBD products for everyone.

How CBD Isolate Has No THC In It

Since the widespread introduction of cannabidiol (CBD), for those who want to explore CBD’s possible therapeutic benefits with extremely low (non-detectable) tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), there is another efficient alternative out there. It does not get the same amount of attention as some CBD products that have THC in them, but CBD isolate one of the most versatile types of CBD on the market.

Undoubtedly, hemp-derived CBD does not have psychoactive properties like THC, which does not mean that it is entirely THC-free. Products made of hemp plants are legally allowed to contain no more than 0.3% of THC according to federal legislation defined after the passage of the 201Farm Bill

Luckily for those who want to dabble in the CBD world but get cold feet after learning about THC’s involvement in hemp-derived products, you can still enjoy the benefits of this cannabinoid without worrying about THC. CBD isolate may be the right option for you.

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is a type of  CBD extract that contains > 99% CBD. This means that there are virtually no other cannabinoids present.  A conventional procedure extracts all active compounds from the cannabis plant, followed by refining that strips away any other phytocannabinoids, including THC, and any plant matter, leaving nothing but the purest form of the CBD chemical compound behind.

Extraction of CBD Isolate

Specific methods are used to manufacture CBD isolate from hemp extracts, like extractions based on ethanol or supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2). The same extraction methods can also be used as a starting point for THC isolate, but usually with marijuana plants rather than industrial hemp. A variety of ingredients, including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, fats, lipids, and other compounds, are extracted from the hemp plant when the CBD extraction phase occurs. After that, it is crucial to isolate the CBD compound from the rest of the extraction, which is achieved through a series of washing and separation processes.

The cycle begins with a winterization process to remove the lipids, waxes, and fats from the hemp extract.  The next step involves mixing a hydrocarbon solvent such as pentane, to cause the CBD to precipitate leaving the unwanted plant particles, including THC, in solution.  The precipitate is then washed extensively to remove all residual solvent.  The result is a white powder, >99% CBD by weight.   Other procedure may involve falling film systems or chromatography approaches.   Falling film systems use heat and pressure to separate the cannabinoids, chromatography physically separates the cannabidiol from other plant molecules based on the physical or chemical properties of cannabidiol.  The resulting cannabidiol is then further refined to ensure all solvents and impurities are removed to create a >99% pure CBD isolate.

Benefits of CBD Isolate

CBD crystalline is incredibly flexible when it comes to usage, and there is a range of advantages of using this pure powder over other conventional types of CBD.

VERY LOW THC

For example, actual CBD isolates will consist of ?99% CBD, so there could be an extremely small level of THC in an isolate product, minimizing the risk that THC could infiltrate your body.

Easier to dose

Measuring CBD isolates dosages is extremely simple because there is nothing else to account for apart from the pure CBD. The cannabinoid is combined with other ingredients of other CBD-based products, such as broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD oil, making it perhaps a bit challenging to measure the exact amount of CBD being ingested.

Many modes of consumption

There are various innovative ways in which CBD isolate can be prepared for use is another big benefit. Whether administered sublingually or combined with food and beverages, CBD performs well in several methods of ingestion.

CBD oil for dogs: Can it help with separation anxiety?

Most good things come in all shapes and sizes, and so do dogs, and even though each dog is different from the other, there’s still one thing common in all of them; they don’t want their human to leave them and they don’t like being left alone. Usually, it’s not a big deal; they get sad watching you leave the house for work or any other reason, but for some dogs, this separation can be a traumatic experience known as separation anxiety. The answer may just well be CBD oil for dogs.

According to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, around 20-40% of dogs that visit veterinary behavioral specialists suffer from separation anxiety. Still, the total number is believed to be much higher as many dog owners don’t seek help for separation anxiety and think that their dog is just “acting out.”

In this blog, we’ll take a look at cannabidiol’s (CBD) role for alleviating separation anxiety in dogs, but first, let’s review the symptoms of separation anxiety.

Symptoms of Separation Anxiety

You may have seen videos of dogs on the internet where they wreck their homes, disregard their potty training, bark and howl unnecessarily, or escape from the house. All these sorts of behaviors are an indication that the dog may be suffering from separation anxiety. Speak to your vet if you see any of the the following signs that may indicate separation anxiety, but remember that other reasons may cause these symptoms, so it’s always good to check with a certified vet to find the root cause.

Here are some other examples of nervous behavior exhibited by dogs:

Can CBD Oil Reduce Separation Anxiety in Dogs?

Much of the evidence on CBD’s ability to lower anxiety or promote a sense of calm come from studies on human subjects.  Evidence suggests that CBD may be useful for treating severe anxiety disorders, including separation anxiety. A study found that 79% of human participants using CBD oil or CBD products report reduced anxiety. A Japanese study reported that CBD significantly reduces anxiety in teenagers diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder. Researchers have also discovered that CBD possibly reduces automatic fearful reactions to a certain situation or learned fears that we gain from our experiences.

Basically, CBD could help you relax, and although all these studies are conducted on people, more often than not, what works for us can work for our dogs too. If you still have doubts about CBD’s role in alleviating separation anxiety in dogs, then talk to your veterinarian.

How to Use CBD for Separation Anxiety?

Here’s how you should use CBD oil for treating separation in dogs, remember that this is just a general idea and may not be the best way for your dog. We recommend that you consult a certified veterinarian before starting a new treatment for your dog.

Dosage

The rule of thumb for the dosage of CBD oil for treating separation anxiety is mg of CBD for every ten pounds of your dog’s weight. So, for instance, if you have an adult male Labrador retriever weighing 80 pounds, you can give him 8mg of CBD.  Note that CBD is very well tolerated with dogs (and humans), so you can start with this recommended dose and increase as needed.

Timing

CBD oil and other CBD products may take up to 30 minutes to kick in, so it’s best to give CBD oil to your dog at least 30 minutes before you leave home.

Schedule

Consistency is critical when it comes to using CBD for treating separation anxiety in dogs, so if you want to see the most effective results, make sure that you give CBD oil or other CBD products every day, at the same time.
